CRUISERS SWIM TEAM

MULTISPORT SWIM TRAINING

Designed for entry-level nonswimmers, aspiring triathletes and elite-level swimmers.

Enjoy a challenging workout in a positive and fun group setting. Expect a variety of swim sets and drills to improve technique. If you are seeking a new low-impact, total body cardio exercise, swimming may be exactly what you are looking for.

Divers of all abilities can participate in a Colorado Association of Recreational Athletics summer dive team. Divers will be divided into four groups based on age and ability and will get to compete in off-site dive meets throughout the summer season. Ages 6-18.

Prerequisite: Must be deep-water safe and able to swim at least 25 yards.

CASTLE ROCK DIVE TEAM

The Castle Rock Cruisers Swim Team provides an opportunity for young swimmers to be involved with a recreational swim team. Practice sessions involve development of the four competitive strokes, flip turns and starts.

Ages: 5 to 18 as of June 1, 2015 Prerequisites: Must be able to swim one continuous length of the pool using either freestyle or backstroke.

Credit card information will be required for registration, and a $15 service charge will be imposed on all unconfirmed absences. All private and semi-private lessons are 30 minutes and scheduled based on instructor availability.

Skills are similar to Parent-Tot 1 and include parents and instructors both practicing skills with toddlers to help them adjust to swimming without a parent. Prerequisites: Skills from Youth Level 5.

Skills taught: 200 yards of front crawl, 100 yards of back crawl, 50 yards of breaststroke, treading for 5 minutes, 400 yards of nonstop swimming and 25 yards of butterfly. Introduces sidestroke.

Prepares participants for work as professional lifeguards. STATIC YOGA (II/III)™

A healing practice where you move in and out of poses that are held for a certain number of breath cycles, directing attention toward the breath, areas of the body, or both. The practice affects the nervous system by increasing blood flow and nervous system activity in the “area of awareness” and benefits the endocrine system by pressurizing the glands, affecting secretion of hormones, making the glands stronger, and balancing the hormones which, in turn, affect every other organ and metabolism.

JUNIOR GOLF ACADEMY CLASSES

PARENT/CHILD NIGHT AT RED HAWK RIDGE

This event gives a parent and child the chance to get out and enjoy golf together. Each event offers participants the opportunity to play nine holes in groups of four. The Red Hawk Ridge Junior Golf Academy is for children ages 6 to 16 and has a fresh look for 2015. Juniors will learn various aspects of the game including rules, fundamentals, etiquette, putting, chipping, irons and woods. Red Hawk has adopted the SNAG (Starting New at Golf) system for new to golf rookies programs. SNAG is an alternative program and the easiest, most fun way to learn to golf. Please make sure SNAG is the appropriate program for your junior. All students receive personal and group instruction. Participants will be entered into an end-of-year tournament and awards banquet on July 28. Classes are limited to five students per instructor. JUNIOR GOLF ACADEMY LEAGUES

The six-hole, nine-hole and 18-hole Junior Golf Leagues give advanced junior golfers the opportunity to have fun and compete for weekly prizes. A different format will be used each week to introduce junior golfers to the competitive side of the game.

League fee will include entry into the 2015 Junior Golf Championship on July 28, as well as a punch card good for one meal before or after each event. A competitor is considered advanced if he or she knows and follows all of the rules and etiquette of golf, shows satisfactory course management skills and golfing ability, and can maintain a satisfactory pace of play. It is mandatory that each participant have a parent volunteer for at least two of the scheduled events.

Participation will be at the discretion of the PGA staff at Red Hawk.

SUMMER TRAILS EXPLORATION PROGRAM (STEP)

RIDGELINE RAMPAGE-CYCLING

Step in to summer with STEP! Everyone is invited to spend beautiful summer days exploring your local paved and soft-surface trails that travel through scenic open space areas found throughout Castle Rock. Kick off the exploration on American Hiking Society’s National Trails Day, Saturday, June 6. STEP will continue through the Labor Day weekend.

Celebrate and enjoy your trails all summer long! One of those trails may be in your neighborhood!

Participants who sign up for the program will receive a “passport” to document completed hikes from a list of 12 sites. Upon redemption of the “passport,” participants will get one raffle ticket for each property/trail visit that is entered into the grand prize drawing; The more sites you visit, the more chances you have to win the grand prize. Every participant will receive a prize, regardless how many sites are visited.

Race No. 1 in The Rocky Mountain Endurance Series features four races throughout the day for all abilities: endurance (50 miles), XC (30 miles), appetizer (20 miles). Located at Ridgeline Open Space, this tight course rips through Gambel oak, Ponderosa and Pinyon pine. Entry fee includes scenic racecourse, post-race meal, athlete gift bag, aid stations, medical support, results and scoring, custom clothing for first 200 registrants and awards party.

TRAIL MAINTENANCE GROUPS

The POST Partners Program works with two trail maintenance volunteer groups that help maintain and improve our trail system and Bike Park, the Ridgeline Wranglers and the Rhyolite Bike Park Dirt Crew. Volunteers help with creating water diversions, clearing scrub oak and other brush that may encroach on the trail, maintaining jump lips, implementing trail improvements and eliminating berms, ruts or noxious weeds. Both groups conduct monthly outings (April-Oct.) and schedules can be found at CRgov.com/POSTPartners. Volunteerism can count towards both high school community service requirements and court-order community service.

HUNTER SAFETY CERTIFICATION

SKATEBOARDING SKILL-BUILDING Designed for beginning skateboarders, this class focuses on learning fundamentals and entry-level skateboarding and skate park tricks.

Instruction is focused on safety, board control, pushing, ollies, dropping in, pumping in the bowl and skate park etiquette. Classes will be held at the Castle Rock Skate Park. Helmets are required, and pads are highly recommended. Ages 8 and up.

CONCEALED HANDGUN PERMIT COURSE

This advanced course prepares women and men, 21 and older, to apply for a Concealed Handgun Permit, also known as a CCW permit. A discussion of handgun rules and regulations is followed by demonstrations with various handguns and equipment used for concealed carry. A review of personal safety measures, how to respond to a deadly encounter and the aftermath of a shooting is presented. The training certificate issued upon course completion meets Colorado competency requirements for the permit.

Students must have previous handgun training and shooting experience prior to registration, subject to instructor approval, or should take the Basic Pistol Course first.

We will be training to run/walk the Denver Rock n’ Roll 5K Oct. 18. All ability and experience levels will be accommodated!!

Informational pre-season parent meetings are required for those new to a specific sport and anyone during an evaluation year. All parents are welcome and encouraged to attend all meetings for detailed program and/or team information and to make special requests.

Using the QuickStart Tennis play format, this program takes a new and better approach to introducing kids to the game. Balls are lower in compression; they bounce lower and don’t move as fast, so they are easier to hit.

ADVENTURE CLUB PRESCHOOL PROGRAMS - NOW ENROLLING Adventure Club preschool and pre-k programs offer a secure, enriching and nurturing environment in which children are able to establish the solid educational foundations they need to have success in future academic and social endeavors. Adventure Club programs are state-licensed, continuous school-year programs, beginning in September and ending in May. All participants must have an up-to-date immunization record, health physical and emergency card on file. Preschool participants (ages 3-4) must have reached their third birthdays by Oct. 1.

Pre-k participants (ages 4-5) must have reached their fourth birthdays by Oct. 1.

CASTLE ROCK HALF MARATHON PICK IT, RUN IT, ROCK IT!

Break out your running shoes and join us for a run to remember. With three distances to choose from and a kickin’ post-race expo, this event has something for everyone.

Half Marathon – 13.1 miles of Castle Rock running fun!

5 Mile – If you’re not quite ready for 13.1, go for the 5 instead. Midway between a 5K and 10K, you’ll love this run.

Rock Challenge – For all you adventurers out there, this race adds the steep ascent and descent of our beloved Town monument, The Rock, to the 5-mile route, making it a thigh-burning wake-up call.

Limited to 50 participants.

PEDAL THE MOON WHERE THE FUN IS AS FULL AS THE MOON!

The sixth annual fun filled bike ride will begin at Butterfield Park and proceed south along the paved East Plum Creek Bike Trail to finish at Festival Park in Downtown Castle Rock. This ride will take place on mostly flat terrain and is geared for riders of all ages. This is a one way ride. Please make arrangements for post-ride transportation. Registered riders will have a chance to win fabulous prizes including three new cruiser bikes! Winners must be present to win. All riders must wear a helmet and have a front headlamp and blinking rear light. Riders are encouraged to light and decorate their bikes.
