WEIGHT ROOM ORIENTATION Let one of our Certified Personal Trainers teach you how to use our equipment safely and effectively. Get started on your fitness goals knowing you are exercising properly.

Each orientation will take 20–30 minutes, depending on the number of participants, and will go over the circuit weight equipment and cardiovascular machines. Orientations are free, but registration is required.

Registration closes 24 hours before the orientation is scheduled to start and will be limited to six participants.

Possibilities Playground at Butterfield Crossing Park

Project Scope Imagine a universally designed, sensory-rich environment that enables children of all abilities to develop physically, socially and emotionally. With your help, this vision may soon become a reality at Butterfield Crossing Park in Castle Rock.

space to serve users of all ability levels. Looking at the statistics for individuals with cognitive and developmental disabilities, along with information on inclusive playgrounds in the Denver-metro area left the Foundation feeling that same desire.

The Castle Rock Parks and Trails Foundation is joining forces with the Parks and Recreation Department to maximize already planned renovation work. The department’s Capital Improvement Plan has identified the need for upgrades, and 2022 priorities will focus on addressing safety and life-cycle replacement.

The Foundation is hoping to use this timing as an opportunity to enhance the park beyond renovation work with the Possibilities Playground.

Visitation data from inclusive playgrounds nationwide indicates that because the disabled population is so underserved when it comes to outdoor recreating opportunities, visitors travel well beyond the distance of their local neighborhood park to ensure play is available for folks of all ability levels.

Survey results from the planning phase of this renovation project demonstrated a collectively strong desire to create a playground and shared community

The goal of this inclusive playground will be for visitors of all ages and abilities to be able to play, be challenged and have fun together. Read on to learn how you can help children of all abilities interact with one another and do what every child wants to do: play.

Elements of Inclusive Play The pieces of equipment listed below are designed specifically to engage children of all abilities to play together.

Three important elements of inclusive playground equipment include physical accessibility, age and developmental appropriateness, and sensory-stimulating activity. These elements combine to create an inclusive-play environment for all ages and abilities and a playground that meets a wide variety of needs and interests.

We-Go-Round

Roller Table

Multidimensional movements like spinning and rotating supply children’s brains with valuable, complex and proprioceptive information. This connects input from head and body position in space, helping children maintain proper body posture and balance while they play. The We-Go-Round is fully wheelchair accessible and promotes fun interaction by having all users face each other.

Rolling horizontally lets children slide back and forth on all sides of their bodies, providing much needed sensory stimulation through the application of deep-muscle pressure from the steel rollers. Balance, coordination, flexibility and motor-planning are all practiced while using the Roller Table.

Two Bay 50’ ZipKrooz

We-Go Swing with Accessible Bay

ZipKrooz provides every child with the linear experience of flying. With its unique track trolley system and comfortable seat suspended by a rubber-wrapped chain, ZipKrooz is engineered for exceptional comfort and safety.

Sensory, motor skill, cognitive and social/emotional skills are all utilized on the ZipKrooz.

The back-and-forth movement of swinging provides a child’s nervous system with a wealth of visual, vestibular and proprioceptive stimulation as they learn how their bodies move in space. The We-Go Swing promotes social interaction for a truly inclusive experience by encouraging multiple users to work together while swinging.

The Butterfield Crossing Park Renovation project is a priority for the Castle Rock Parks and Trails Foundation, an independent 501c3 that works to enhance Castle Rock’s parks and trails and maximize the community’s recreational experiences. Established in 2012, the Foundation is a residentled advocacy group, brought together by their collective desire to create educational and enjoyable recreational experiences.

Aquatics PRIVATE ADAPTIVE LESSONS Private adaptive lessons will be back in the fall! Please reach out to the Therapeutic Recreation Specialist at abordenet@CRgov.com if interested in participating in private swim lessons for individuals with disabilities for September-December 2022. Private adaptive swim lessons are geared toward learning how to swim and continuing to learn and practice basic swim stroke techniques. Participants who do not fit the criteria of 1) learning how to swim and/ or 2) learning/practicing basic swimming techniques are encouraged to participate in group aquatic programming.

ATHLETICS & MOVEMENT SHAKE IT! - ZUMBA/ZUMBA Who doesn’t love to shake it?! Join us for multi-week series focused on dance and creative expression. During each program we will engage in activities to get our bodies moving, work on spatial awareness and appropriate body dynamics through dance, and show off our skills while following along to choreography.

Please note that this program builds up to a group performance at the annual Zumba Glow fundraiser for Therapeutic Recreation on Friday, Sept. 16.

COMMUNITY OPPORTUNITIES ADAPTIVE SAILING WITH THE COMMUNITY SAILING OF COLORADO Let’s sail away at Cherry Creek Reservoir! We will be spending a day on the water with a goal of teaching new skills and trying something new. The program begins with a quick overview of sailing terms and basic concepts. This is followed up by heading to the boats and experiencing adaptive sailing! CULTURAL ARTS ADAPTIVE POP-UP ART LAB Join us for a fun adventure as everyone creates their own art piece!

In coordination with PopUp Art Lab, participants will learn and demonstrate different techniques while adding their own flair to the creations. What makes this program so unique is that everyone starts with the same theme, but everyone's piece will turn out unique! All supplies are included, and snacks will be provided.

ART IN THE PARK Art is for anyone! One great aspect about art is that anyone can create something unique and meaningful. CASTLE ROCK TRAIL FESTIVAL / liveBIG FAMILY ADVENTURE RUN Enjoy the fall colors with the entire family at Castle Rock’s signature trail-running event, featuring: a 50K, half marathon, 10K, 5K and the Family Adventure Run - a 2K obstacle course designed for 5 through 12 year olds and families. Proceeds from this event supports our Therapeutic Recreation program.

Racers will appreciate professional chip timing, fully supported race courses with up to 11 aid stations, tech tees, custom finisher medals, free photo downloads and a celebratory beer at the finish line for participants 21 years of age and older. OUTDOOR RECREATION RAFTING WITH NSCD This summer we will be hosting two dates for rafting in coordination with National Sports Center for the Disabled (NSCD). Come experience the thrill of rafting Class II/ III rapids on the beautiful Upper Colorado River with your family and friends. Learn the basics of raft and water safety, and enjoy your trip down the river in rafts or duckies. We offer a variety of adaptive equipment to make these trips safe, comfortable and enjoyable for the whole group. Both dates are for individuals of all ability levels. Individuals are able to register for one or for both dates.

We will be having lunch on the water; please send participants with a water bottle and a cold lunch. Coolers will be provided to store lunches, and extra water will be provided. A detailed packing list will be provided closer to program date.

Transportation will be provided by the TR staff, and dropoff/pick-up will be from the Castle Rock Recreation Center.

Social Programming TR TROUPE This program for teenagers and young adults focuses on offering a variety of activities to promote independence, socialization and overall wellness. SUMMER CAMPS THERAPEUTIC RECREATION C.A.M.P. (CREATION, ADVENTURE, MOVEMENT & POSSIBILITY) Therapeutic Recreation summer camp is the place to be! Join us for one week, or several weeks, at our camp experience for individuals with differing abilities ages 6–18. Based on weekly themes, campers will be exposed to traditional and unique camp activities focused on creation, adventure, movement and possibility. Activities are provided to promote skill development and growth related to self-esteem, socialization, independence and overall wellness in a fun, positive and respectful environment! Campers must have a Camper Information Form and all required health forms on file prior to participation, and age of participation is based on the first day of camp (June 13, 2022).

LEARN TO SWIM: TODDLER/YOUTH The Town of Castle Rock’s Learn to Swim program opens the door to a lifetime of opportunities in the water through progressive instruction in a group or private setting. Sessions are available year-round. Group lessons run Monday through Thursday evenings and Saturday mornings, meeting one day a week. LIFEGUARD CERTIFICATION CLASS Lifeguard Training Class prepares participants for work as professional lifeguards. To participate, swimmers must be able to complete a 300-yard swim test utilizing front crawl and breaststroke, tread water for two minutes non-stop using kick only (no arms or hands), retrieve a 10-pound brick from 10-feet deep and return across the 20-yard pool in 1:40 using kick only. Successful completion of the course does not guarantee employment with the Town. Participants must also complete a blended learning portion before the first day of class, which includes approximately eight hours of online training. The blended learning link will be emailed one week before the class starts.

LIFEGUARD CERTIFICATION REVIEW CLASS The review class gives individuals the opportunity to re-examine the full course content. Aquatics Programming for Infants through Adults The Learn to Swim program opens the door to a lifetime of opportunities in the water through progressive instruction. Group lessons afford students the opportunity to learn new skills with their peers in a fun and enjoyable way. Class arrangements allow students to learn progressively challenging skills with others in their own age group. Class Descriptions Seahorses | Parent/Child | 6-23 months | 25 min.

Introductory level of parent-assisted lessons for toddlers.

Parents help introduce children to water using circle-time songs, while learning basic body positioning and holding techniques to promote water comfort. One adult per child and swim diapers or plastic pants are required.

Sea Otters | Parent/Child | 24 months-3.5 years | 25 min.

Secondary level of parent-assisted lessons for toddlers.

Designed for toddlers not ready to be in the water without a parent. Skills are similar to Seahorses and include both parents and instructors practicing skills with toddlers to help them adjust to swimming independently. One adult per child must be in the water. Swim diapers or plastic pants are required for children not yet potty-trained.

Guppies | 3-5 years | 30 min.

Introductory skills for children ready to be in the water without the direct support of their parents. Swimmers will learn and master the skills of blowing bubbles, submersions, unaided front and back floats and kicking.

Goldfish | 4-6 years | 30 min.

Fundamental skills for children, including front and back glides, 15-yard freestyle kick with breathing, introduction to freestyle arms and an introduction to whip and dolphin kicks.

Prerequisites: Mastery of skills from Guppies, including blowing bubbles repetitively underwater, front-and-back floating for three to five seconds and kicking continuously for 15 - 20 second intervals.

Piranhas | 5-6 years | 30 min.

Advanced level of swimming skills for children ready to swim the full 25-yard lane. Skills taught include freestyle kick with kick boards, backstroke kick, unassisted freestyle and backstroke and treading water one minute unassisted.

Dolphins | 6-9 years | 30 min.

Introductory course for older children with little to no experience. Fundamental swimming skills with focus on submersion, front-and-back floats and glides, freestyle kick, introductory freestyle arms and an introduction to whip and dolphin kicks.

Prerequisites: Mastery of skills from Goldfish, including independent front and back glides, freestyle kick with side breathing for 15 yards, freestyle arms with side breathing and whip and dolphin kick fundamentals.

Stingrays | 6-10 years | 30 min.

Secondary level class for older children. Enhances knowledge of freestyle kick, rotary breathing, elementary backstroke and dolphin kick. Graduates will safely and correctly swim 50 yards of both freestyle and backstroke.

Prerequisites: Mastery of skills from Piranhas or Dolphins, including floating and gliding independently, being comfortable with rotary breathing and the ability to use a kickboard for 15 yards.

Multi-level class appropriate for older youth and teens looking to learn more advanced swimming skills, with focus on stroke development. Swimmers will further their knowledge of freestyle kick, focusing on rotary breathing, while learning both elementary backstroke and dolphin kick. Graduates will correctly swim 50 yards of both freestyle and backstroke.

Advanced classes for stroke development suitable for swimmers who have completed and mastered Stingrays.

Prerequisites: Mastery of skills from Stingrays, including freestyle with rotary breathing for 50 yards, backstroke for 50 yards, understanding of safety and lane protocol and interest in pursuing a more competitive setting.

Competitive Swim Techniques | 9-15 years | 60 min.

Off-season practice for those who are interested in the swim team. This class focuses on endurance, distance swimming, stroke refinement (free, breast, back and fly), racing starts, relays and turns. There are two mini-meets per session. A weekly, independent workout is required.

Prerequisites: Completion of all Pre-Team classes or midto-upper swim team skills.

Pre-Team | Freestyle and Backstroke Focuses on technique and distance, with the end goal of 200 yards of non-stop freestyle and backstroke with flip turns.

Pre-Team | Breaststroke Focuses on technique and sprints, with the end goal of 50 yards of non-stop breaststroke with two-handed turns.

Pre-Team | Butterfly Stroke Focuses on technique and sprints, with the end goal of 50 yards of non-stop butterfly stroke with two-handed turns.

Pre-Masters | 18+ This class is best for swimmers who are looking to advance their swimming skills, learn additional strokes or enjoy a pleasurable workout while meeting their swimming goals. The curriculum focuses on development and growth to move swimmers into any Masters Swim Program.

ADULT LINE DANCE AEROBICS CLASS Learn to line dance while getting in a fun workout. These dance class routines will combine the elements of cardio, balance, flexibility and boosted energy while you learn many dance moves and line dances.

Separate classes available for both beginners and advanced students.

POTTERY ADULT POTTERY This class will focus on the different techniques when throwing or hand building along with continuing to perfect your skills in other areas of pottery. PARENT AND COACH MEETINGS Preseason meeting information and informational packets for parents and coaches will be sent out via email. During preseason meetings, our staff will discuss and answer questions about program philosophy, expectations and rosters. Information will be provided regarding practice and game scheduling. Our programs allow parents to participate by coaching, scorekeeping and line judging.

YOUTH COACH TRAINING For all new and returning coaches, a training will be held to provide sport-specific practice plans and drills. Additionally, coaches can attend a hands-on training taught by athletic staff to further their ability to be a successful coach. Coaches are required to complete concussion training certification, coach agreements and agree to a background check.

CHEERLEADING BEGINNING CHEERLEADING Beginning cheerleading for boys and girls.

Cheerleading is a great way to introduce teamwork, motion and cheer memorization, and age appropriate stunting. The program runs for 8 week sessions. With each session, cheerleaders will attend a weekly practice and cheering at a weekly game. A universal uniform will be purchased ($60 and this will be used for future sessions). One practice and game weekly, along with a halftime show in the last week of each session.

HOCKEY INLINE/STREET HOCKEY Inline hockey leagues for players ranging from 2nd grade through high school! The twin outdoor rinks at Metzler Park will be renovated with a new smooth concrete playing surface as well as being equipped with new scoreboards! Games will be played on Thursday evenings and Saturday mornings and early afternoons! All teams will be offered a single 1-hour practice at one of the Metzler rinks during the week (other than Thursdays or Saturdays). A high school aged division will start their season at the end of May ending in late June 2022. Other divisions will start their season at the end of August ending in early October 2022.

CASTLE ROCK RAPIDS: YOUTH SOCCER Colorado Rapids Youth Soccer Club (CRYSC) is a 501(c)3 nonprofit youth soccer organization located in Castle Rock. Rapids Youth Soccer is Colorado’s premier youth soccer experience and the only club in Colorado to offer opportunities for 3-year-olds to professionals, from first time beginners to seasoned soccer players. CRYSC offers youth soccer programs to over a thousand children every season in and around Castle Rock.

SOCCER START (FALL) Join us for a soccer adventure with Colorado Rapids Youth Soccer’s toddler and preschool soccer program, Soccer Start! Players born in 2018 or 2019 learn the basics of soccer in a team environment full of imaginative games and activities. SUMMER ADULT SPORTS ADULT GRASS VOLLEYBALL Join us this summer for some fun in the sun.

For the first time, Castle Rock Athletics will offer a 4v4 grass volleyball league. Each week, teams will play two matches and will self-officiate. Two four-week leagues will be held, one in June and one in July. Both leagues include three weeks of regular season play and one week of tournament play.

Location: Paintbrush Park ADULT SPIKEBALL – NEW! Roundnet Spikeball is a team sport played by two teams consisting of two players each. Opposing team members line up across from each other with the Spikeball™ roundnet set in the center. The object of the game is to hit the ball off the net in such a way that the opposing team cannot successfully return it. First team to 21 points wins. There will be a summer tournament at Paintbrush Park.

ADULT CUP-IN-HAND KICKBALL LEAGUE (21+) Join the summer kickball league! This 9-on-9 league is coed; at least three women must be on the team and no more than five men may play on the field at a time. Teams may have as many subs as they would like. All are welcome to kick even if they do not play on the field.

This league is cup-in-hand. Every player, whether at bat or on the field, must have a beverage cup in their hand! Water provided, but players are welcome to bring their own beverage of choice.

HIKING ADVANCED HIKING Designed for adults 18 years and older who wish to get into the high country with a guide. Guides carry GPS in case of emergency and are Wilderness First Aid certified. These hikes are up to 10 miles on the alpine trails of Colorado.

Participants are required to provide their own equipment, water and snacks. Participants must be in good health and capable of moderate physical activity, meeting the distance and elevation requirement associated with each outing. Destination of outings may change due to weather, trail conditions or other factors at the discretion of the program coordinator.

ADVENTURES OUTDOOR WELLNESS GUIDED FOREST THERAPY Research shows that visits to natural places have real health benefits. Experience the healing and wellness of Shinrin-Yoku: the practice of bathing the senses in nature. Take a quiet, contemplative walk that integrates gratitude, reflection and creativity.

CASTLE ROCK'S ADVENTURE CLUB PRESCHOOL EARNS HIGH RATING FROM STATE OF COLORADO The Town’s Adventure Club Preschool has earned a level three rating from Colorado Shines for excellence in early learning.

Colorado Shines is a free service offered through the Colorado Department of Human Services Office of Early Childhood, which rates Colorado’s early care and learning programs. The rating communicates to families that the Town’s preschool program provides a high-quality experience for children. When comparing preschool programs, having a Colorado Shines rating gives families the peace of mind that a program is safe and supports healthy development.

OUTDOOR EDUCATION LEAVE NO TRACE AWARENESS WORKSHOP Hike a local natural area and discuss ways hikers and campers can avoid or reduce negative impacts on nature. NEW PREMIUM CLASS OFFERINGS RUN CLUB Have you always wanted to run but are not sure where to start or are you a seasoned runner looking to improve your 5K time? Come join our 5K running program! This program will meet you where you are and help you get to the next level with your running goals, whether you are a beginner or expert runner.

Training for beginners will include guidance on finding an appropriate and manageable pace. For advanced and experienced runners, this program will elevate your routine and have you ready to crush your personal record. Program is scheduled and designed to prepare runners for the First Fridays 5K series and is offered monthly. This program is led by a certified personal trainer with 21 years of experience and involvement with road and trail running and cross-country coaching.

NEW NUTRITION CLASS Eat the Rainbow - Are you burnt out on the same meals and snacks? Want to add more variety and color to your diet? Or are you just not sure where to even start when it comes to adding more nutrient dense foods to your plate? Join our lecture Eat the Rainbow! We will discuss the many different nutrients and benefits of eating foods in different colors, how to add them into your favorite dishes and discover some new recipes. We will include modifications for canned, fresh and frozen produce because you deserve to nourish yourself in a way that fits your life and needs. As always, this will be a supportive, judgement-free zone dedicated to helping you nourish and flourish! Classes will be offered once a month.

YOUTH SPORTS CONDITIONING Youth strength and conditioning consists of resistance, plyometric and speed training. Benefits include an increase in muscular strength, endurance, and decreased reduction in sports-related injuries. An even greater benefit is the positive impact it has on self-esteem and socialization. This program is appropriate for all sports and fitness levels.
