Seasonal Vegetables Spring is in the air and seasonal produce is coming into its own, with some real Great British gems! From plump cherry tomatoes to juicy peaches perfect for summer salads and fruity desserts.

Beef Tomatoes

These are the largest of the tomato family and have a meaty texture with a sweet, mellow flavour. They are great for salads, grilling or stuffing.

Cherry Vine Tomatoes

Small and very sweet, cherry tomatoes have an intense flavour.

Try adding to salads, snacks and sandwiches or for cooking.

Ideal as a garnish for open face sandwiches and pitta breads.

UK Spring Onions

Spring onions are in fact very young onions, harvested before the bulb has had a chance to swell. Both the long, slender green tops and the small white bulb are edible and are good either raw or cooked. They have a similar flavour to onions, but are much milder.

Distinguished by their fuzzy thin skin with hues of red, pink and gold blushing throughout. The flesh is aromatic, juicy when ripe and golden coloured. Peaches are great for fresh eating, poaching, baking and grilling. They can also be used for fresh fruit salads or savoury salads.

A ripe nectarine’s texture is soft with a melting quality like peaches, nectarines do not ripen after picking so should be bought already ripe. British season runs from late May to early September. Look for plump, shiny, tender berries, with a good, bright colour and a sweet aroma. Perfect raw with cream or ice cream or sprinkled with a little balsamic vinegar.

Rob’s Red Cabbage Coleslaw Recipe Ingredients ½ Small red cabbage (400g) ½ White onion 1 x Fresh Parsley 4 x tbsp Hellman’s Real Mayonnaise 2 x tbsp. low-fat yogurt Salt and pepper Method 1. Chop the cabbage, onions and parsley then mix together.
