EDITOR'S LETTER

The SUMMER FASHION issue I will probably have to stop saying how amazed I am with each issue that is published. My goal is to raise the bar and the standard for each issue as we grow and expand. As I sit here typing this letter to you, that feeling of being amazed will never quite go away. This particular issue is special because we are featuring someone close to us, but it is a name that you will remember in the years to come as she rises to stardom. Carlacia Grant, a young actress and model whom we've seen blossom over the years has followed her dreams and is now achieving the success she deserves right before us. She has recently landed three roles in three different Television series, one of which has amassed at least 5.3 million views on the first night. A proud moment not only for those close to her but also to those of Haitian and Jamaican descent as she originates from these 2 backgrounds.

Moreover, it is a delight to be able to feature new talent from the city of New York, a young female photographer by the name of Sulaah Bien-Aime shares some of her photography with us, showcasing not one but 2 spreads. One of which highlights famous designers Ron & Ron whom have styled celebrities such as Jay-Z, Wass Stevens, Curtis Martin, Courtney B Vance, Hill Harper, Jamie Foxx just to name a few.

Last but not least, Fashion lovers rejoice! Miami Swim Week just happened. It is our great pleasure to present to you three of the best designers of the week, Beas and Bikinis, Fhilthy Haanz and Beach Freedom. These hot and sizzling new designs will get you ready for the cruise season in sunny South Florida.

It is our pleasure to give you this month a fun packed summer fashion issue also featuring our returning contributors Herbert Tucker and Robert DiVito. I am surely pleased with the outcome and I am sure that you will be too.

akeup Artists are usually considered the labor behind fashion shows and photoshoots, however we ask ourselves do they get the recognition they deserve?

Here at CREATIV we make sure to highlight the artist in general. We consider Makeup artists the most important part of a project for they enhance the beauty of the subject. Jessica Edmond, from Naples Florida, shares with us the love and passion she has for being a makeup artist.

When did you fall in love with Makeup?

** I fell in love with makeup when I realized that my artistry made so many women happy! The smiles after each session warms my heart and grow my love for the craft more and more.

Which one of these talents can't you live without?

** Yikes! I think I can live without being a photographer.

However, I have an amazing partner his name is Dany King and we share similar styles when it comes to capturing art.

He is very good at listening to my crazy ideas and bringing them to life, so I can definitely leave the photography up to him.

What was the inspiration for this editorial spread?

**My inspiration came after watching an episode of sex in the city, I called Dany and shared the idea with him. There was a clip of the main character Carrie Bradshaw crossing the street in a puffy skirt simply enjoying the moment. I thought to myself how can I recreate this with a little edge?

Tell us about how you fell into being so passionate about makeup?

It’s not every day that one gets to say yes I am friends with a Hollywood star, well today we proudly can say that Carlacia has been a friend since she has been featured in our magazine during our humble beginnings and still is now that she is starting a promising career among the heavy hitters in Hollywood. Last month we had the privilege of attending the screening of the 4 night television series ROOTS , where she played Irene wife of Kunta Kinte’s great grandson. A series which has gathered more than 5.3 million views on the first night alone Nationwide Being from Miami, it really is an honor to be able to share wonderful experience with her as she rises to stardom. On that day, her fans, friends and family made sure to give her a warm welcome, having such a golden heart she made sure to take a picture with each and every person whom attended. In honor of her return we decided to get close and personal with Carlacia, Enjoy the few words exchanged with her:

Let's talk a little bit about your beginnings, How young were you when you started in the entertainment industry?

I was a lead in Robert Luis Stevenson’s play Treasure Island. I was crowned Miss Teen Miami. I sort of fell into modeling and I got hired to do a commercial with Bank Atlantic or Bank of America, I can’t really remember it has been so long. I’ve been doing so much as a child, even being part of a slew of plays….it’s then I realized this is what I really wanted to do.

What is the youngest you have been when you started and the entertainment industry like in Treasure Island for example?

I was about 11 or 12. My mom was the one taking me to all the auditions when I was little you can't really do anything unless you have a parent's consent.

However my dad was the one who took the activities as hobbies. My mom was definitely my biggest supporter.

It’s been now two years since we’ve worked together in New York, You have been previously featured in the magazine in a photoshoot spread for Oheemaa. How did you transition from model to actress?

Actually a lot has happened since we’ve worked together. I’ve been focusing more on acting instead of modelling, I landed a role in the series on Game of Silence and other TV series that you will come out soon.

How did you land a role in Game of Silence can you tell me a little bit more about the process of auditions?

My agent called me about the audition and actually I sent the tape in and then they called me and told me that you got the role.

I can’t believe it was that simple but tell us a little bit more about your trending role right now in the series Roots, how do you feel that Roots just made 5.3 million viewers on the very first night?

It’s just amazing! It's actually only in the Nationwide for now however we have an international contract it's exciting it's actually unbelievable I was watching it last night thanking God I can't believe I'm a part of this. That's the kind of thought that goes in my head.

Well congratulations!! You know we are all rooting for you moreover we know that Roots is only a 4 night event what happens to the series after that?

That's pretty much it. It's based off of the original ROOTS from 1977 it's a miniseries, and miniseries have a beginning and an end it does not come back for a second season because it is based on the book.

Okay so we know that you're part of ROOTS and you also have a role in Game of Silence however we've heard through the grapevine that you also have a role on OWN you will be working directly with Oprah tell us more about that?

Yes actually the project is called Greenleaf we just finished filming. It's actually pretty exciting coming off of ROOTS you're already at such a high and then you get a call that Oprah already approved you to be part of her show so is just the best year ever!

So you have 3 projects under your belt as of now so are you thinking Hollywood permanently?

I'm actually back and forth right now, but I'm mostly in LA. So what other projects are you working on right now besides those three?

Nothing I can say we have to wait until it comes out.

The next question is very important to us, every Caribbean child can relate to this, I have to ask you what did your parents think?

I guess it depends on the writing they haven't written it yet so it depends on the script itself then they can determine who is staying and who is leaving.

So how do you think they feel now?

Actually there's nothing to be said anymore because right now nobody remembers what they said actually it's a greater feeling that I’m able to show them that I can achieve whatever I put my mind to. The point there is even better than gloating. It’s to say yeah I did it and you can do it too Do you think that had you stayed in Miami you would have had the same opportunities that you have right now?

Absolutely not.

So would you say that New York open doors for you?

New York New Orleans Atlanta all of these places were stepping stones on the role they played on where I am today. I love Miami I will always love Miami but at the time they weren't really opportunities to get those roles in

Canadian based resort label Filthy Haanz unveiled their 2017 collection at SWIMMIAMI at the WET Deck. The gorgeous runway set atop the W South Beach's pool served host to both male and female models in gorgeous rich jeweltones. Notable for a sophisticated yet raw design philosophy, the brand continues to traverse boundaries.

The brand’s creative director Wilber Tellez was inspired by his travels. For 2017, an apparent Spanish influence made waves through the fabric choice and styling. “The raw sights, sounds, and textures off the streets led me to believe this city, its people and culture, were the epitome of our brand lifestyle.” This season, Wiber described his collection as "mysterious sexy" and that it was. Models strutted in sunglasses Tnemnroda and dainty jewelry by Tracilynn Jewelry.

Vivid jewel tones were complimented by a gold sheen lace and black strappy details. Unexpected teal and maroon color combinations caught the eye of attendees.

The women’s category includes monokinis, bikinis, maillots, and wraps, whilst the men’s category includes speedos and trunks complimented with an assortment of essential tops and tanks perfect for poolside. The entire collection will range from $79-$300 CAD. Baes and Bikinis runway debut went off without a hitch. Industry fled to the LYCRA Swim Salon at the W South Beach only to be turned away due to the packed venue. Sun tanned models radiantly strutted the runway in jeweltone flower hair-pieces highlighting the gorgeous crochet details of every bae in her bikini.

Baes and Bikinis is a collection of swimsuit each uniquely designed by Malibu resident, Stephanie Princi. A native of Malibu, her line of bikinis is inspired by beaches around the Greek islands, Hawaii and Malibu. Baes and Bikinis creates very detailed, simple, sexy, high quality swimwear, which combines imported soft fabrics and seamless comfort to encompass the lifestyle of the perfect low cut island bikini as well as the flirty Malibu fit.

Inspired by her mother's line of high-end crocheted bikinis as well as her passion for art and design, this 20 year old designer set out to create a unique and more attainable line of bikinis that her and friends could love. Stephanie has had a great deal of support from family and friends, which has allowed her to be successful at a young age.

or most single people, it’s not hard to secure a date for a night out on the town. Simply going to a dating website and sending a “smiley” face to someone’s mailbox can land you, (what I affectionately like to call), “A chicken dinner”. Now this is only certain with someone you may not have much interest in other than good conversation, sex or a hot meal. The challenge comes in when you have a strong desire to meet someone special and actually go out on a date with meaning. You really want to bask in the sweetness of romance and try something refreshing and new for a change with someone you’ve been eyeing for some time, or even someone you’ve recently met that sparked your interest. For a lot of people, this happens. But what comes next is a total bust! The phone stops ringing, text messages aren’t as frequent and somehow, date number two never really happens.

No matter where you go on a date, who accidentally spit a piece of broccoli on the other person’s plate or who forgot their credit card at home, you can still get a second date and plenty more thereafter if you keep up with your end of the bargain. Here is how to flourish on your first date and actually make it to date number two (considering no one throws a drink on anyone at the end of the night):

1.

Cut the Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde act.

Be Yourself. I cannot stress this one enough! It is very important to be your most authentic self when you’re out on your very first date. This rule holds weight because while you’re getting to know the person more and more, and pieces of you begin to unravel, you don’t want to end up being someone completely different than you are by month 3. When you’re out, there’s no need to put on fake accents, ask the waiter for the restaurant’s most expensive wine (on a mediocre budget), or make crude, obnoxious jokes hoping to come off as Mr./Mrs. Funny. These types of things only make you look silly and could even be a little offensive. Be the same person on the date that you are around your friends, (with some discretion of course). When you’re trying to draw a person into your world, you want to make sure they get the best of you. I’m here to tell you ladies and gentlemen, the best of you…is you.

2.

Check your hygiene at the door.

One of the things that attracts someone to you, is your smell. A little cologne or perfume can actually create a sense of warmth and sexual attraction between you and your first date. The worst thing you can ever do is not be prepared and

turn your date away because you refused to brush your teeth after devouring an onion sandwich. The rules are uncomplicated: Take a shower before you go out on your first date. Enhance your shower experience with deodorant, cologne or even treat your date to freshly washed hair. Make certain that your breath is fresh and free from strong odors.

Brush your teeth, floss and even gargle to knock out any bad-tasting flavors from food you may have had earlier in the day. Lastly, make sure your clothes are clean and free of stains/spots. Some people have the misconception that they must spend a ton of money to look good for a first date – it’s the exact opposite. So long as your clothes are wrinkle free and they don’t have a ton of imperfections, you’re good to go! On the whole, don’t let your breath or armpits be the reason your date goes to the restroom and never comes back.

Leave your ex at the exit.

Never, ever, ever talk about your ex-boyfriend/ girlfriend on the first date. We hear this all of the time, but many of us don’t stick by it. We easily get trapped into bringing up our exes because on first dates, we’re often asked: Why are you single?, When was the last time you were in a relationship? or What do you look for in a guy/girl? While these may seem like honest open questions, they’re a trap for failure. First dates should be fun. First dates are you getting to know the person now and not getting to know their past. There is plenty of time to bring up the past, but don’t do it while you’re out making your first impressions. Keep the questions light, fun and free. For example, asking questions like: Where do you like to get away or escape reality? What do you do for a living? What would you dream of doing? What excites you? and What’s your favorite movie? can tell you a lot about a person. These types of questions lend themselves to other questions and can keep the conversation going for hours. Bringing up an ex can cause you to inadvertently vent, get upset or turn your date completely off. Keep the discussion in the now and leave your ex where you left 'em!

In general, there are not many rules to making it to date number two. If the person you’re out with can’t accept who you are or what you bring to the table, then that person is not for you anyway.

What you do have control over is how you present yourself while you’re out. So what if the person doesn’t like your taste in shoes or the way you combed your hair that night? At least they can’t walk away saying you were bogus, a complete scumbag or condescending. You gave the best you, you could have given… (Happy dating!)
