Freedom is never FREE and we are honored to be able to print some pages about and for local Veterans. They have our utmost gratitude for their service to our county.

Bill Trojan is a photographer, photojournalist and educator who believes in the power of education and photography. He began his journey in photography as a teenager by taking photographs at family events, and now dreams of continuing his journey in photography throughout the community he lives in. His biggest accomplishments to date have been educating area high school students and documenting local and national events through the medium of photography.

Bill has had the opportunity of photographing many U.S. Presidents, rock stars, major national events, breaking news stories as well as local sports and concerts.

Bill Trojan grew up in Massapequa and Deer Park, Long Island, NY and presently resides in Gloversville.

Bill participates in all things photography, local car shows and music concerts and events. For almost two decades Bill was the Photography Editor and Senior Photographer for the Leader-Herald Newspaper in Fulton County. He has also taught high school students Art, Photography and U.S. Government and History in area schools.

Bill is a member of the Gloversville Civic Band Board of Directors. In 2024 Bill was given the opportunity to be in a movie with comedic and legend Chevy Chase. It was an honor for him to be on set with Chase who is one of his all-time favorites.

In April of 2026 Bill was a background artist in the new Christmas movie entitled: “A Christmas Spin” with Former figure skater Nancy Kerrigan and actress April Bowlby (Kandi in “Two and a Half Men”) filmed in Saratoga, Albany, Lake George and other area locations.

Bill is presently the owner of WATPHOTO Photography Services in Gloversville and the Chief Photographer for “We Call This HOME” and “Get Off Your APP & GO!” Magazines.

Bill is happily married for 22 years to musician, music educator and certified dog trainer Ann Trojan.

COMMUNITY as we celebrate 250 years of Freedom

Our beautiful country turns 250 years old this July 4th. Celebrations abound! Hopefully we will all get to experience a celebration or two. Most of us, even though our lives may be busy, are happy to be a part of our communities by getting involved with organizations that interest us or by volunteering for those that need help.

There is a lot of generosity to smile about, if you look around you. We cheer for the positive developments and have concern when things are a bit off. This place “We Call Home” - wherever that is for you - invites us to get involved in numerous ways.

Elected officials in every city and town around have open doors for concern and if you are so inclined you can run for a position of your own.

If you have an idea or a concern, offer suggestions and become a part of the solution. Likewise, if you admire something, show kindness by letting the person know they are doing a great job. It is nice to see so many new businesses opening up in many places lately. We wish them much success as they navigate the ups and downs of business ownership.

This summer, as you make plans to soak up the sun and find the fun, take an hour or two out of your day to check out the many businesses we have right here at home. Try something you have never done before - shop at a new store, eat at a new restaurant, buy a gift at a local thrift shop or cozy little store.

Don’t forget about the amazing libraries and museums that hold so much history as well. If you are inclined to volunteer, there are many clubs, churches, food pantries, animal shelters, etc. who would love the help - and you will make some new friends in the process! best summer!

July 3rd 9:00 am - July 5th 12:00 pm Commemorating the Signing of the Declaration of Independence The Johnstown Historical Society is pleased to announce that we will be hosting a large scale America 250 event in the historic downtown Johnstown district in 2026 during the 4th of July weekend, July 3rd - July 5th. This event will be a multifaceted event featuring lectures, storytelling, living history, specialty tours, hands-on activities, entertainment, food, and so much more.

We are working with the Fulton County Historian, City of Johnstown, and the Committee for Tourism and Special Events as well as a number of other not for profit organizations such as the Johnstown Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Masons of St. Patrick’s Lodge.

Opened in May 2026, Mason Memorial Home serves Montgomery, Fulton, Schenectady and Albany counties as well as the entire Capital District. With almost two decades of experience in the funeral industry, Michael is proud to provide burial & cremation service, guidance and personalized, affordable care for all families in need.

This event will provide programming, education, entertainment, and an eye-opening look at the deep history Johnstown, New York and the surrounding areas has connecting to it and intertwining with the events leading up to, during, and after the American Revolution as well as other unfinished revolutions that Johnstown is connected to.

Activities and events include a reading of the Declaration of Independence followed by a reading of the Declaration of Sentiments, music, presentations on a number of topics through the lens of not only the patriots but also the loyalists, women in the revolution, and the Haudenosaunee people of this area.

We also have a storyteller, David Nielson, performing stories about John Andre.

Many historic buildings connected to the American Revolution will be open for tours, and so much more!

This year’s theme for the spring exhibit was patriotic, with The Harold Wilmot American Legion Post 137 in Gloversville being the beneficiary of all donations.

The exhibit featured local Veteran memorabilia, binders of local veterans put together by Tony Ferraro, patriotic quilts, beautiful White House Historical Society ornaments, local colored pencil artist Jack Horning’s works of art, a room showcasing photos taken by Bill Trojan - photographer/photojournalist and owner of WatPHOTO Professional Photography Services and so much more!

Starting in 2011 with a group of 45 investors partnering together to raise enough money to buy the building, secure a grant, and begin rehabbing, they brought the building back to life.

Mohawk Harvest Cooperative Market relocated to Schine Memorial Hall and Micropolis Art Gallery followed as well. Seven street level storefronts were renovated and rented.

The second floor was next to be renovated and rented out over several years to six tenants. The third floor has become an arts corridor beginning with Josh Thompson’s music school.

Ron Zimmerman, building manager and his wife Trina created the Schine Gallery in 2015 to bring more artistic events to downtown Gloversville. Schine Gallery has held two major art exhibits each year to give exposure to local artists and raise money for local nonprofits. In 2024, Memorial Hall Cultural & Arts Center was formed and received a $346,000 DRI Grant to build a museum/event space and art studio that can be rented or used by individuals or organizations. There is also a beautiful room at the end of the third floor hallway which was formerly the screening room for Schine Enterprises movie empire. Schine investors renovated that space in 2019 and have held community meetings, concerts (Caroga Arts Collective), historical presentations and other functions.

Hello all.

Let me introduce myself properly. Sue Clark is my name.

A M.Ed. degree explains my style - a combination educator, storyteller and fine arts photographer.

I’m also a car enthusiast, a twin, a writer and a wanderer.

That’s the short list. I find many “out of the way” places through my wanderings... and record said wanderings/ discoveries with my trusty camera beside me, whether that be my Canon DSLR or cell phone camera. Believe it or not... the advances in cell phone camera picture quality simply blow me away nowadays, so I find myself using the cell phone camera more often than not.

I start my “Let’s Go!” column with the name of the local destination, post hours and contact information, give a little history about the destination, and include some photos.

BTW... it’s always good to call ahead to any travel destination to confirm hours of operation.

Yes. Linda said I would not get rich producing this column...yet.

OK then. I’ll be doing it for the fame. BTW, I’m not a historian by profession. My writing style is more like a storyteller/ educator/entertainer.

So... how about getting away to a place right in town that showcases Cabbage Patch dolls, carousel horses, model trains, owls, a replica of the USS Amsterdam, an ALCO room, a toy room, a military room, Brigadier General Donald A. Devito, Kirk Douglas, a Sheldon Jackson Native American artifact collection, a gift shop, a research library, and much more ... right in Amsterdam, and... it’s free to visit! (Donations are always welcome.) Then go visit the roughly 50,000 square foot Walter Elwood Museum. Mr. Elwood (1886-1955) was a Superintendent and educator for the Amsterdam Public School District. He was also a writer, conservationist, collector and world traveler. He believed children should be exposed to the many wonders of the world, and collected artifacts from his extensive travels - (42,000 miles in 7 years!) to bring to the children in Amsterdam’s public schools. He was known to visit schools with his briefcase full of interesting items that he would then use to teach science. (He didn’t have a car I’m told, and would walk or take a bus everywhere.) He also encouraged other world travelers to bring back artifacts from their travels for his collections. Several other major collections have been donated to the museum also, including Native American artifacts from Union College graduate and Alaskan Presbyterian Missionary Sheldon Jackson’s (1834-1909) estate.

Any student needing to write a book report will find ample subject matter here. I’m sure if Walter was still with us, he’d be very pleased if students came. And don’t forget that the research library is there for the community to use. DO give yourself a few hours to explore... “Amsterdam’s favorite attic.” Let’s GO! Hi cell phone camera fans!

A spectacular sunset only gets more vibrant as time goes on. The attached image here has no additional color editing added. That’s how gorgeous the colors were! Try to stay in front of a sunset as long as the colors last. You’ll be pleased with your camera results.

Also - you’ll often find other interesting subjects nearby. I learned quickly that I was not in a “one - trick pony” image location the other day.

After sunset, I went to get into my Mustang, turned around, and witnessed pink and dark grey clouds with a full moon peeking out!

Then... the icing on the cake.

I’m minutes away from the 108th Airlift Wing of the Stratton Air National Guard Base, and BAM!, one of the famous C -130 Hercules flew low right in front of me, to complete a practice landing.

I was dazzled by the evenings end.

A Truly Amazing Place to Visit, Close to Home!

Tribes Hill Heritage Center 360 Mohawk Drive, Tribes Hill, NY 12177 Getting out to the Tribes Hill Heritage Center is a must do for the 2026 season! The collection is ever expanding as word gets out of the amazing Mohawk River gem which is visited and enjoyed by historians, naturalists and families alike. The Museum holds an expansive artifact and arts collection from across America of the Native American’s daily life and fine craftsmanship that came from living with the land and nature.

Housed in this location is a Native American Library and mixed media archive used for on-site research on the pre-colonial history of Native Americans; of the lifestyles and histories, arts, and the way they worked with nature. In addition to a site visit, by attending Vendor Event Weekends you will have the opportunity to meet craftsmen and purchase items including jewelry, leather, furs, feathers, quill crafts, rocks, minerals, and carvings.

Enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps after graduating from Canajoharie High School in 1965. Dan served in Vietnam, returning to the Capital District in 1971. He served for over 50 years as a member of Local 12, Local 15, Local 40 (NYC) and Ironworkers District Council of Western NY.

Following a distinquished service in the United States Army National Guard, Peter built his career as an engineer at General Electric Company.

He was a former member of the Johnstown Eagles and Loyal Order of the Moose.

A graduate of the class of 1954 at Nott Terrace HS, he went on to study Electronics at DeVry Institute in Chicago. He joined the US Air National Guard at the 109th Airlift Wing. The owner of Forgettes Electrical Repair Service, Leonard also volunteered for many organizations over the years.

Served two tours in Vietnam in the US Army, receiving two purple hearts and several commendations.

At 55, he also served a tour in Irag as a member of the 424th Quartermaster Company. He was presented with a bronze star for his heroic efforts while delivering vital supplies to other American troops.

Anthony Ferraro is working hard to reach as many families of Veterans as possible to obtain photos and information about their loved ones who have served. He has compiled a lot of information already and it is on display at the Gloversville Senior Center in binders.

Joe attended Hudson Valley Community College under the GI Bill and earned a degree in Refrigeration and Air Conditioning.

He then started his own business, Joe’s Refrigeration and Air Conditioning. He served the Amsterdam area for more than 60 years. He was a hard working, generous man who always put his customers first. Joe shared his technical knowledge with his sons and apprentices and his business continues to operate today.

He especially enjoyed hosting the annual family picnic on his birthday in August at the Shrine of Our Lady of Martyrs in Auriesville with family and friends. He was active in many church organizations as a devout Catholic. He participated in numerous patriotic parades, dedications and memorials throughout his life as a proud veteran.

Joe resided on Tremont St. in Amsterdam with his wife, Gilda (Montuoro) and their six children.

A Personal Calling to Honor Our Veterans ★★★★★★★★★★ Mike and I heard of Artist Don Scott through a good friend. We were able to meet him and his wife Mary at the New York State Military Museum’s Family Day on October 18th, 2025. Don, a Veteran himself, interviews Veterans to understand their stories, then brings those stories to life through his art. He feels that it is important to preserve the memories. There were several of his amazing portraits of Veterans on display at the museum that day. We were fortunate enough to see him gift a print of his work to a 100 year old Veteran he had painted. Surrounded by his family, smiles all around, we watched him accept this beautiful piece of artwork. Possessing a talent like Don has is most certainly a gift and he humbly shares it with others.

Don mentioned that he and his wife Mary have traveled the country to meet Veterans. They have listened to many accounts of war told to them by these patriotic soldiers, and have since gained many new friends for life. Don is grateful to be a part of preserving the memory of these wonderful people who we honor each and every day for their service to our country. ~Linda

I asked Don to tell us about what he does...

I want to thank the editors for allowing me to use this space to introduce myself. My name is Don Scott, and I am an artist who paints portraits of our veterans.

The purpose of these paintings is to thank and honor the men and women who have served this country. Today, less than 1% of our population serves in the military. During WW2, it was 11%.

The Revolutionary War was a struggle over Rights and Freedoms. Then, and today, these Rights and Freedoms that we should cherish have been guarded by men and women who sacrifice on an almost daily basis, whether stateside or overseas.

My contribution, though minuscule compared to those made over the last 250 years by our veterans and current military personnel, is important. It is about preserving the legacy and letting our troops know they have not been forgotten, and that the sacrifices they made on behalf of this Nation were worth the effort. With the support of my wife and friends, I have had the honor of meeting some of the oldest Veterans among us and recording their stories. This is done with both paint and canvas, as well as audio and video. Each portrait contains an image of how the Veteran looks today and something from their time in service. My wife and I have museum-quality giclee prints made of each portrait and work to find an appropriate museum to display them. Future generations need to be taught that freedom is not free. This is not just a slogan; it has been bought at a high price by those who serve. My artwork is my attempt to pay it back, though it pales in comparison to what we owe them. That’s the Reader’s Digest version of what my artwork is about.

On May 19, 2026, H.A.L.O. took in three, eight-week-old brothers named Keebler, Snickerdoodle, and Biscotti. They were quite shy at first, but it only took a few days and some fun toys to earn their trust. Keebler was outgoing, playful, and sweet.

Snickerdoodle loved to wrestle his brothers and loved pets and toys. Biscotti took a bit more time to warm up to us, but once he did, he couldn’t get enough pets -- that is, in between playing and wrestling. Just 12 days later, on May 31, 2026, they were all adopted and left H.A.L.O. and on to their forever homes. Although they were short term residents with us, we will always remember them.

When Fostering Bringing My DaughterHeals with Us a Heart I am absolutely sure that the world is full of those of us that look at our pets and say “how will I ever go on without you?” The bond we have is unshakeable and a testimony to love in it’s purest form. Gary Labelle had that bond with his beautiful black lab, Jack. I was fortunate to have met Jack, as Gary is an ex-coworker of mine and he frequently brought Jack to work at the Daily Gazette. Gary’s Facebook page is Jack Labra, named for Jack. I remember thinking when Jack passed away that Gary would only be able to ease some of his pain if he chose to love a dog again.

I have felt this way as each of my precious pets pass away. However, everyone is different and Gary wasn’t ready - until the day he saw Marley featured on a news segment, and then the next day he saw it again. Marley was being taken care of by The Fulton County Regional SPCA who put up a plea on their Facebook page for a quiet, medical foster home for Marley. She had been diagnosed with a cancerous tumor in her mouth and given months to a year to live.

When Gary saw the news segment aired about Marley, something happened…perhaps a nudge from Jack saying “it’s ok now Dad, she needs you, there is enough love to share, I am always with you”.

Gary listened to his heart and applied to help Marley. FCRSPCA chose Gary to be Marley’s medical foster Dad. I asked him to tell me about how it feels and if he felt it was a sign from Jack, that his home should become Marley’s safe place to land.

I carried a heavy burden in my heart for Jack even after over 2 years since he had passed. Some days something would remind me of him, and I cried for him as those memories ran down my cheek.

Carrying those memories made my heart feel very heavy. So when I saw on the news that Marley needed a home, I knew in an instant that all that love that I was carrying in my heart for Jack, now had a place it needed to go. Right now Marley is getting every single bit of that love. She sleeps right alongside me every night in a cozy bed, Gary and instead of on a shelter floor. She goes everywhere with me, riding in the truck like the beautiful, well Jack behaved queen that she is. I work part time at the Daily Gazette and take her to work with me just as I did with Jack. My coworkers even brought her a welcome basket full of toys and treats.

I don’t know how long I’ll have with Marley, but I truly believe she is helping me as much as I’m helping her. For those of you out there that never want to face the ending of a dog’s life, I urge you to never say, never! When I decided to apply to foster Marley, it gave me a huge feeling of gratitude. Yes, I believe Jack allowed this to happen.

I found out right away that she loves a good steak! She also had a nice spa day to get her all cleaned up and smelling good right after I took her home. My friend at Gators Barks and Bubbles Dog Bath gave me free unlimited salon days for Marley to keep her soft, clean and smelling good. Please consider fostering, even if they’re sick or old. While the end is not going to be pleasant, my heart is filled with a feeling that at least I’m helping her.

For now, Marley will bask in the sun or watch the rain out the window, go on adventures, have the best medical care, toys a plenty, and enjoy a life every dog deserves. ~ Gary

Bringing My Daughter with Us

I walked into a patient’s hospital room with my golden retriever and a clipboard in my hand. “I see you signed up for therapy dog visits,” I said to the woman lying in bed. There was also a visitor sitting near the window in a folding chair. “This is Brody,” I announced. “Would you like him to say hi?” “Of course,” said the patient. I motioned with a wave of my hand for Brody to approach the bed so she could easily pet him. He was wearing one of my favorite bandanas with bright shades of pink and purple.

I noticed that both women had open books in their laps, so I thought this was the perfect opportunity to give them each a bookmark.

They looked at the pictures on the front and then turned the bookmark over to read the back. It says: Kelsey and Brody met on April 18, 2021, when Brody was 2 months old. Kelsey wanted Brody to become a therapy dog so the two of them could bring joy to others. Kelsey had small fiber neuropathy that affected her autonomic system.

She passed away on September 28, 2022, at the age of 29. We want to fulfill Kelsey’s dream and have Brody bring happiness to others in her memory.

Kelsey was my firstborn child. By elementary school age, she had wavy blonde hair and eyes so blue that total strangers felt the need to comment on them.

But since birth, Kelsey often had some sort of worrisome medical symptom that interfered with her life. Maybe she had a fever, a UTI, or a stomach virus. Most school age children experience these illnesses. But with Kelsey, we were constantly at the doctor’s office trying to figure out what was wrong.

As an adult, Kelsey’s chronic pain prevented her from working and left her feeling like her life had no purpose. My husband and I renovated a house for with her when she was 27 years old. Just a couple of months after Kelsey moved in, Kelsey ther, her broan I told her, “Dad and I want to get you a puppy.” Kelsey couldn’t believe it.

Brend “My own puppy,” she exclaimed. “I wanted a dog, but I never thought I’d get one this soon.” Since dogs had always been a part of our family, I knew a puppy would be a great companion and roommate. I reminded Kelsey that when she was in the New Visions Health program in high school, her favorite placement was the nursing home. I suggested that when the puppy was older, she could train him to become a therapy dog. “That would be the perfect job for me,” Kelsey said. She was thrilled with this idea. “Then we could visit people who are in pain like me and make them feel better.”

The morning Kelsey passed away, I put Brody in my car and brought him home to live with us. Each day I clung to him as I tried to live in a One of the bookmarks world where my daughter was missing. Sometimes I thought that saving that are printed and handed out to the me was a lot of pressure to put on the little guy, but I was so grateful to people Brody visits in have this last gift from Kelsey. From those very first moments, I knew what his therapy dog role, to I needed to do. Even before Brody became a therapy dog, I wanted to find honor Kelsey’s memory. a way for Kelsey to be a part of our visits to medical facilities. As I tried to come up with an idea, I thought about some of Kelsey’s favorite things.

There was the plaid wool coat she wore every winter for several years, and some floor length skirts worn to most family gatherings. Still hanging in her closet were dresses she’d worn to weddings, her brother’s college graduation, and other special occasions. There’d been a craft table in Kelsey’s bedroom since she was 3 years old. Her passion for being creative stayed with her through high school. I had paintings she’d made in various art classes. I took individual photos of the patterns in each item and had them made into dog bandanas. Before we leave the house for a visit, I choose one from a box of about twenty.

When Brody walks into a medical facility wearing a bandana, for me, it represents a memory of my daughter. It makes me feel like we are bringing a part of Kelsey with us. Many of the residents who we see regularly know about Brody’s wardrobe. One afternoon we walked into a woman’s room. She lifted the corner of the bandana so she could see it more clearly and said, “Tell me about this one.”

Everyone grieves differently, but I appreciated an opportunity to talk about my daughter. The bandana showed a geometric pattern of black and gold overlapping circles. “When Kelsey was in middle school, they had the students draw possible covers for the yearbook,” I explained. “It was such an honor when Kelsey’s design was chosen and became the yearbook cover in 2007. Those are the school’s colors.”

I soon discovered another benefit from our visits, one that I didn’t anticipate. Once people learned why Brody became a therapy dog, they often felt comfortable sharing their own grief stories with me. After the visitor at the hospital read the bookmark I’d given her, she said, “My son died in a car accident twenty years ago.” This opened the door for us to have a conversation about her son, who she was still grieving. As I walked out the door to leave, she said, “There’s a grief metaphor about a ball and jar.

You should look it up.” That very night, curious, I did exactly what the woman suggested. The metaphor explains that when you first experience a loss, the ball, which is your grief, barely fits inside this tiny jar. But as time passes, you— the jar—get bigger as you learn to live with the loss and experience new things. This image of grief gave me hope and stayed with me long after our encounter. Today, when Brody walks into a patient’s room wearing one of his bandanas, he brings joy to others just as Kelsey imagined. In the beginning, I wouldn’t have thought it was possible, but now I know: My jar will keep getting bigger.

Hey peoples! It’s Me...Charles Bradley Brown!

Hey Peoples, it’s me, Charles Bradley Brown. Are you looking for a nice easy hike, maybe one for you and some kidlets? Check out the Orra Phelps Preserve in Wilton, NY. It’s just a little over 30 minutes from Broadalbin where I live and it is a really nice drive to get to it, too. There are about 18 acres in the preserve with a lot of easy trails and bridges over swampy parts and a stream. The stream is called Little Snook Kill. Don’t worry about the word “Kill”, there is nothing dangerous there. “Kill” is an old Dutch word for “creek” or “stream”. Because our area was settled by peoples who were Dutch there are a lot of places here near streams that have “kill” in them like “Catskill” and “Cobleskill”.

This is an fun place to explore with smooth trails and not a lot of steep areas.

The Little Snook Kill is wide and shallow, which is good for wading in.

There are areas with wildflowers and others with big shady trees. The trails are not long, just about a mile and one half total, but it is such a pretty spot that you can spend lots of time exploring. There are also benches to rest on and just enjoy being in the woods.

Dr. Orra Phelps lived across the street with her family in the 1920’s to the early 1980’s. She was a Navy doctor stationed in Washington, DC during World War 2. Before that Dr. Phelps was the Medical Inspector for Schools for Montgomery County, NY. After the war she was a doctor at the Veteran’s Administration until she retired in 1962.

Every chance she had she hiked in the Adirondacks. She knew all about plants and was the first Adirondack Mountain Club’s ranger-naturalist at Adirondack Loj. She even started a natural history museum there in a tent. In 1934 she wrote the first guide book to the high peaks, hiking every trail herself to be sure everything was right in the book.

Kitten Angels Grant

Kitten Angels is a non-profit organization dedicated to the rescuing of abandoned & orphaned kittens, pregnant cats, mama cats & their kittens through foster care, located in the Capital District of New York.

Grant is everything you could want in a kitty companion. This guy IS the complete package!

At approximately one and a half years old, Grant is a very playful guy. He especially loves toys with feathers.

Wait until you see how athletic this guy is as he jumps and twists trying to catch the feathers on the wand toy!

And cuddly! Such a great cuddler. Put a cat tree by the window and this guy will spend some serious time watching the goings-on in the neighborhood.

Grant would love another friendly, playful cat or two to pal around with! He's been eager to meet the cats in his foster home and has booped noses with them through the baby gate. He trills and talks to them through the door too. He'll be great with older, catsavvy children and would love a home where there will be lots of playtime. Grant may be ok with a dog that will respect his space with a slow and proper introduction.

Grant has tested positive for FIV. FIV positive (FIV+) cats can safely live with other cats, including those without the virus, provided they are spayed/neutered and do not fight. FIV is not spread through casual contact, such as sharing bowls, grooming, or sneezing.

The primary transmission method is deep bite wounds, making a stable, low-aggression household the key to safety.

Sawyer & Finn Sawyer & Finn are 10 month old kittens, currently being fostered. They need to be adopted together.

These two boys are just about as sweet as can be.....but....they're very skittish and shy! With patience they'll definitely come around and warm up! They just love toys, wand toys, being pet, and getting attention, but they'll back away quickly when scared or startled. They tend to hide so they'd need a small room to adjust where there's not many places to hide! They just need a human to sit with them, pet them, talk to them and show them that humans aren't so scary.

They'll be available for adoption soon!

Doc, Bashful & Grumpy Doc (male) and Bashful (female), are bonded and would like to be adopted together.

They are about 10 months old. They are incredibly playful and are going to be someone’s absolute best friends and are a source of such joy. Doc helps Bashful be more brave; Doc is pretty adventurous and warms up quickly. Doc is also polydactyl and loves to show off his oven mitts! Bashful is a petite little angel.

Grumpy, their brother, is playful. Once you’ve earned his trust he will love nothing more than to receive affection and socialize. He is long haired with white socks and a white speck on his nose. I would describe him as an old man in a kitten’s body, who surprises you with his spunkiness!

With patience all 3 cats would be fine with other cats and children.

May take time with small children and dogs are unknown.

OUR PROCESS IS SIMPLE: Complete an application, check w/the landlord, other pets in the home must be vaccinated unless medically unable to do so. We do our best to make sure each cat/kitten goes to the right family!

Kiki is a sweet senior boy who is quietly waiting for someone to give him the love he deserves in his golden years.

Kiki is fixed and vaccinated and estimated to be somewhere between 15–17 years old. He’s been through a lot, but you’d never know it by how gently he settles into a warm lap.

He warmed up to his foster mom right away, showing just how much he wants to trust and be loved. Even while being treated for a URI, Kiki is still eating well and using his litterbox like a champ. He’s doing his best… he just needs someone to do the same for him.

Safety Tips for a Great Summer...

She has had her business for 36 years.

Tina was a freelance writer for the Amsterdam Recorder writing the “Doggie Bag” column which, in 2008, was published into a book by the UPS Store in Amsterdam.

She has also published “To Love and Be Loved” in 2021. As of the summer of 2021, she is a survivor of Covid Pneumonia after being on a ventilator for 17 days.

While concentrating on her health and recovery, she still continues to keep her business open and happily grooming her Pooch Parlor Family.

Did we ever think we would see the snow melt? It sure was a long winter. Even now the temperatures are still cool. Our dogs, cats and wildife want to be outside as much as we do!! There are so many new smells in the air and life is finally “green” everywhere.

One day it’s rainy and the next day it is sunny and hot outside. Remember to keep fresh water outside near your pets. Be careful walking on pavement as their feet are very sensitive and can burn. A nice shady spot is always a nice relief. Too much hot sun and our pets can get sunburned and overheated. Dogs and cats both can become dehydrated and pant as well.

Many pets have been stung by bees in their faces ears and feet.

Oh, the skunks have been out and about since February. Just ask “Archie” as he was sprayed.

The ticks have been being removed since March. This tick season is going to be dangerous for both pets and humans. Many have been treated for Lyme disease unfortunately.

Our elderly pets are safer being in pet strollers and being wheeled around town.

If your pets are swimming be sure to have a life vest on them. Not all pets know how to swim and don’t let them drink the water.

Hiking with your pets can be a fun journey but bring their own bottled water, food & a first aid kit.

Drinking standing or contaminated water can cause Ecoli or “Beaver Fever” and you must see your vet.

While we all want to be outside camping, swimming, hiking or under a shade tree having leashes, harnesses, tags with your cell phone number and your vet’s number on them should be priority.

A nice summer smell can change their direction and they’ll be off and running.
