Baki Ildiz, President Creative Touch

O U R M I S S I O N

Finding success in rug manufacturing and becoming the third generation in the hand-made rug business was not always the plan for Baki Ildiz.

Ildiz, born in Turkey, relocated to Oregon in order to finish his high school education and complete his collegiate education. After graduating, he worked for one of America’s largest retailers until realizing his true passion was to bring his family’s 60 year strong rug industry legacy state-side. His former boss was his first customer ever after his father sent him a selection of his family’s finest classic Turkish rugs. Partnering with his brother in 2002, the pair decided to open a brick and mortar retail location selling their name-sake’s classic rugs. Quick success led the duo away from retail and into wholesale.

In 2005, Creative Touch settled in New Jersey and concurrently joined with ICI in Turkey offering the finest classic Turkish collections and patchwork rugs. The move and partnership allowed Creative Touch to accommodate the growing production from Turkey and position themselves in a more desirable geographic location for their wholesale buyers.

Since then, Creative Touch continues to expand in all aspects of business and design. While maintaining a reputation for offering one of the highest quality classic Turkish collections available, Creative Touch ventured into contemporary designs, expanded production to multiple locations across India, Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Nepal, and began working with the interior design community. More recently, Ildiz has pioneered the art of rug design to include collaborations with various artists and interior designers to create collections of fine hand-made rugs and textiles.

Sustainable splendor, these patchwork and over dye vintage rugs are a modern take on tradition. Vintage oriental rugs are cleaned, sheared, and dyed to create a new masterpiece. Full sized rugs in excellent condition are kept as whole, while rugs that have problem areas are patched together to minimize waste.

Anatolian vintage pieces are sourced from villages across Turkey and patched just outside of Istanbul.
