Planet celebrity Talk about power player! The X Factor judge is a champion at networking… Rita’s famous friends ELLIE GOULDING AND ELTON JOHN Perhaps these three were working on a new chart-topping musical collaboration. MILEY CYRUS Neither of these raunchy pop stars is exactly frightened of flashing the flesh! THE OBAMAS It doesn’t get much better than singing for the world’s top power couple. Maybe try Brangelina next, eh? PAUL M CARTNEY Even an ex-Beatle isn’t immune to Rita’s many charms... ED SHEERAN Top prize to Ed for looking at the camera and not Rita’s rather distracting dress! CARA DELEVINGNE There’s no use pumping up your pout like that, out-pose a supermodel like young Cara! THE DAY JOB Reet’s right at home rubbing shoulders with the starry X Factor judging panel. KATE MOSS Fashion comes first for this glam pair, but we bet it doesn’t stop their partying! HARRY STYLES Of course Rita is pals with the new Brit Brat Pack including 1D star Harry, Nick Grimshaw and pal MERYL STREEP ‘My life’s complete,’ Rita said after mingling with Meryl at an Oscars bash. SAM SMITH We wonder if Rita asked Sam to put in a good word for her about the next Bond theme? A staple fixture for any special occasion, from births to birthdays, weddings to anniversaries plants and flowers are synonymous with celebrations. It’s no wonder then that, for many of us, our gardens are our happy place, and we look forward to spending more time enjoying them during the spring and summer seasons when they are in full bloom. As the first green shoots appear after wet and cold winter, and bright yellow daffodils cover grassy banks and verges; gardens begin to wake up again with a chorus of song from returning birds and the hum of bees signalling the start of spring. MOOD BOOSTER So much more than just a patch of grass to mow a couple of times a year, gardening has long been applauded for its benefits, both for our physical and mental wellbeing. A space to play, entertain, relax and learn, gardens have so much potential to get even more from your home, no matter how big or small. It is no secret that colours impact emotions, so picking a selection of flowers in a variety of different shades will boost your mood. A hanging basket is a quick and easy update that will instantly transform any porch or front door and they are also perfect if you are short on floor space. GET GROWING With a burgeoning focus on sustainability, there is even more reason to have go at growing your own fruit and vegetables, cutting down on food miles and packaging. No matter the size of the space you have to grow, be it windowsill or small balcony or patio, you’ll feel an enormous sense of achievement cooking or baking with your very own home grown produce. Check out page 84 to learn how to grow your own juicy strawberries! SWITCH OFF Helping to switch off after a busy day, just 10-15 minutes in the garden to do a spot of weeding or water the plants can be the ideal way to unwind, clocking back into nature by soaking up some vital vitamin D – yet another reason our gardens can make us happy, and healthy! With the rise in popularity of taking a ‘digital detox’, gardening is an ideal alternative to scrolling on your smartphone. However, when your garden is in full bloom, sharing your flowering successes with friends on social media can also be a great way to inspire others to have a go, and will certainly brighten up their news feed!
