Summer has arrived! Everyone’s favourite season is here and there is no bad weather here, just sunshine for our lovely Tadcaster readers. Local resident heading to Greece to take on the spartathlon Local resident, AJ Marchant, a sales account manager from Sherburn, is taking on the mammoth Spartathlon later this year and has been regularly training in and around Tadcaster to prepare for the event Spartathlon is a 153-mile race from Athens to Sparta in Greece.

The Spartathlon race aims to trace the footsteps of Pheidippides, an Athenian messenger sent to Sparta in 490 BC to seek help against the Persians in the Battle of Marathon.

The race is the 30th of September and you have a 36-hour time limit to complete the 153 miles.

Tadcaster Echo had a chat with AJ to find out more about the upcoming event.

AJ told us: “After crewing a good friend of mine, James Ellis, in 2021, I caught the Spartathlon bug.

I then set my sights on a ballot entry via the Flitch Way 12-hour race in which I completed 120km in 11 hours, 55 minutes. That was it! I was in the ballot! Lots of months of gruelling training had paid off.

“After gaining my entry into the ballot, I had about a 20% chance of being accepted and as luck would have it, my name got called! I had been accepted!

This was my time to shine!

“I am most looking forward to drinking a lovely cold pint of Mythos in the sun and bathing in

the Mediterranean sun singing Arctic Monkeys, smirking like Andy Dufresne from the Shawshank Redemption when he met Red on the beach, safe in the knowledge that I completed the race.

“What I am not looking forward to is the heat, the volatile weather, the blisters, the constant shouting from my fabulous crew, the stray dogs, car horns, lack of energy and the lack of sleep.

“The amazing duo of Joe Firth and Georgie Riby will be crewing me. Both good friends of mine that know me and will be able to read me like a book in those dark times.

“I also have my mum and auntie coming along for a road trip offering moral support.

“If I complete Spartathlon in 2022, at the age of 23, I will be the youngest British Spartathlete ever!

“This is my end goal of running and has been the race I’ve been dreaming of for many years!”

Jigsaw Childcare receives ‘Good’ Ofsted rating Jigsaw Childcare in Church Fenton is celebrating after being awarded ‘Good’ by Ofsted

The report commented on how ‘Children arrive happy and are eager to begin their day. They are greeted by cheerful staff, who welcome them into this warm and inviting nursery.

It continued: “Children enjoy a wide range of experiences that help them to learn and develop a range of skills. Staff carefully consider children’s individual needs and adapt activities, so that they are accessible for all children.’

‘Leaders, managers and staff have good safeguarding knowledge. They understand

what signs might indicate a child is at risk of harm and know who they should report any concerns to.’

Tadcaster Echo had a chat with Helen Smith, Business Manager, to find out more about the visit.

When was your last Ofsted visit?

Over the last 15 years we have had five Ofsted Inspections 2008, 2011, 2013, 2017 and then 2022. We have seen a lot of changes to how the EYFS statutory framework has been implemented in Early Years and how it has been

inspected by Ofsted. However we have remained consistently graded as ‘Good’ in all areas throughout these changing times.

Were you prepared for the visit?

Over the last five years Ofsted has changed its approach and now gives Early Years settings prior notice to an Inspection.

So we were informed of the inspection at 12 noon the afternoon before. However we are always prepared to provide a ‘Good’ setting and quality teaching every day for the most important people, our families that use us.

Are you pleased with the result?

We are really pleased with the result and so proud of the positive comments made by the Inspector: I have highlighted some on the report attached.

We have also had some fantastic comments from our parents: “A big well done to you all for your recent Ofsted inspection. You all do an amazing job and I’m so pleased that your hard work and commitment was recognised” “Great to read the report and well done to the team

for another great result. As a parent, I think it reflects the hard work and dedication the team shows every day, so is very well deserved”.
