INTRODUCTION Hello and welcome to your October/ November edition of Scunthorpe Journal. We hope you all had a brilliant summer! Autumn may bring chillier nights but we love getting cosy and tucking into a nice, warm home-cooked meal. The nights may also be getting darker but spooky season is just around the corner, too, and for many people this is their favourite time of year. In this edition, Scunthorpe Little Theatre Club presents Sleeping Beauty which
is coming to the Plowright Theatre in January. We also promote Lincolnshire Humber Federation for a Cracking Christmas Fayre on Saturday 21st Novemer, 10am - 3pm at Scawby Village Hall, DN20 9AT. Scunthorpe Little Theatre Club presents a panto take on the traditional fairy tale of “Sleeping Beauty”, a tale of good versus evil, and how love and friendship will always win out in the end. Join the Lincolnshire Humber Federation for a cracking Christmas celebration Keep your diary free, and pop along on Saturday 21st November, 10am - 3pm at Scawby Village Hall, DN20 9AT and their guests, their annual Cracking Christmas Fayre is one where they throw the doors open and invite the whole community to join.
The Lincolnshire Humber Federation of Women’s Institutes (LHFWI) is based in Brigg and represents 36 Women’s Institutes across the Lincolnshire Humber area. The WI is much more than a monthly meeting – members come together to learn new skills, make friends, support their local communities and raise money for causes that matter to them. Throughout the year, the Federation organises a wide variety of activities, from talks, workshops and social events to trips, competitions and fundraising activities. While many of these events are primarily for the members

The Christmas Fayre gives the local community an opportunity to come together and enjoy the start of the Christmas season in a friendly, relaxed and welcoming environment. At a time when Christmas can feel increasingly expensive and commercial, they want to offer something a little different – a traditional community event where people can browse a range of quality stalls, find unusual Christmas gifts and bargains, enjoy homemade refreshments and cakes, take part in a raffle and simply have a good chat and a bit of festive fun.
The Women’s Institute has changed with the times – and today’s WI is about so much more than you might imagine. Whether you are 18 or 80+, working, retired, new to the area or simply looking for something new, there could be a WI waiting to welcome you. The Lincolnshire Humber Federation have WIs across Lincolnshire and the Humber, with meetings held at different times and on different days. Messingham Martial Arts For the past nearly 12 years, Messingham Martial Arts has supported its community under the instruction of Grandmaster Stuart Usher by helping members develop confidence, self-esteem, friendship, discipline, self-defence skills and good moral family values.
