INTRODUCTION Hello and welcome to your August/ September edition of Scunthorpe Journal.

We hope you are having a brilliant summer! The school holidays will soon be coming to an end and we hope all our little readers are looking forward to starting a new school year. But fear not, autumn isn’t here just yet, we will hopefully have a few more weeks of sun!

In this edition, we promote Glow Walk 2026 - can you go the extra mile for Lindsey Lodge this year and help them fund another year of care?

We also speak to Julie Johns, from Messingham, who will be skydiving at Skydive Hibaldstow on Saturday 3rd October in memory of her brother, and in support of Lindsey Lodge Hospice.

Can you go the extra mile for Lindsey Lodge this year and help them fund another year of care?

They need your energy, your footsteps, and your support to do the Glow Walk all over again on Friday 11th September, 8pm, at Lindsey Lodge Hospice What happens in the Glow Walk?

The Glow Walk is an annual five-or 10-mile walk around Scunthorpe, where participants pledge to raise at least £50 per person in sponsorship to support Lindsey Lodge Hospice.

Each year we are blown away by the wonderful community spirit displayed on the evening along with the generosity of the people in our area.

Last year we had 860 people sign up to take part and raised an incredible £61,700!

Scunthorpe Journal spoke to Emma Batty, fundraising coordinator at Lindsey Lodge Hospice to find out more.

Tell us about Lindsey Lodge Hospice?

The Hospice has been in Scunthorpe for 33 years, and receives amazing support from our local community – some of the volunteers who helped raise the initial money to build the Hospice are still helping us now! We have become a valued resource in our area, and aim to support as many families as we can. Situated in the heart of North Lincolnshire, Lindsey Lodge Hospice and Healthcare provides high quality, specialist palliative care and wellbeing services to local people and families living with progressive life-limiting illnesses.

Why is the Glow Walk important to the community?

It costs £5.2 million per year to run the Hospice, with only 30% of that coming from the government. Therefore, we rely on fundraising and retail to raise the additional funds required to keep our facility operational. We offer end of life and palliative care for everyone in North Lincolnshire, and every penny raised really does contribute towards the care.
