Local woman takes on Run 50 Miles in October Challenge in loving memory of her husband

Ann (Annie) Boyd-Bell, originally from Howden, is stepping up to take on this challenge, helping to raise vital awareness and funds for Prostate Cancer Research Did you know that one in eight men in the UK will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime. Ann told Our Goole: “I am now a widowed grandma of five, I have four granddaughters and a grandson, all under three years old.
“My husband Terry (pictured above) was diagnosed with stage four metastatic prostate cancer in November 2020 aged 50 years. There is no screening programme, so I aim to raise awareness. “If I can save one man through my fundraising and stop another family going through the grief we live with, then I feel I will have accomplished something. “Getting diagnosed with early symptoms means men will be able to live with the disease for longer. Awareness of early symptoms is key. FROM A POLICE PERSPECTIVE:
The return of National Rural Crime Week of Action significant emotional and welfare impacts. There is disruption to their livelihoods, their families and their businesses. “Rural crime is therefore not simply an attack on an individual farmer. It is an attack on our rural economy, our food industry and the communities that depend upon them. “Thankfully, the importance of tackling rural crime is becoming increasingly recognised.
In this issue, Goole Police Team talks to us about the return of National Rural Crime Week of Action which took place last month. This is when we place the spotlight on the work of our Rural Task Force and look at the importance of work tackling Rural Crime. Rural Task Force Sergeant Kevin Jones explains why the work the team does is so important and plays an integral part of making sure criminals are stopped. Kevin told Our Goole: “Years ago, there may have been a misconception that rural crime was only hare coursing or sheep rustling, committed by opportunistic offenders.
“Here in Humberside, our Rural Task Force is made up of passionate, committed and community-focused officers who understand the vulnerabilities, impact and concerns facing our farming and rural communities. “We work collaboratively with our Farm Watch groups, policing volunteers and Special Constabulary. We work across policing pillars with colleagues in neighbourhood policing, patrol and specialist teams and the partnership approach is crucial. “Together, we aim to make Humberside a hostile place for those who seek to exploit our rural communities and, importantly, reduce the fear of rural crime among the people who live and work here.
“Rural crime is increasingly linked to organised crime, committed by sophisticated and meticulous criminals who plan their offending carefully.
“But tackling rural crime cannot be the responsibility of the police alone. We need our communities to continue working with us. I would urge the public to report incidents to the police on 101, or 999 in an emergency.
“These criminals can operate across borders, nationally and internationally, targeting our farms for highly valuable and often role-essential agricultural machinery and equipment.
“You know your communities better than anyone. If something does not look right or feels suspicious, there is a good chance that your instincts are right.
“It is important to emphasise that there is not just one victim of rural crime. The farmer is not only left to deal with the immediate financial loss. They can also suffer
