Vintage in the Park

The ever popular Vintage in the Park is back on Sunday

20th July, 12-4pm at West Park,

Originally inspired by their friends at Howden Vintage Day four years ago, they wanted to showcase the 1920s’ heritage of West Park with music, stalls, food and dancing.

Now it’s become a firm fixture in the FOWP (Friends of West Park Goole) calendar to bring the whole community together.

It’s not just about embracing the past, but also looking to the future, as next year Goole celebrates its 200th birthday. They are hoping to raise awareness of this amazing milestone and encourage more volunteers to come help celebrate at West Park.

Vintage in the Park is a free event, but they’re grateful for any donations to help them continue

putting on events and activities.

Goole

Music is on the bandstand from vintage DJ Paddy O’Kaye and 1950s’ rockabilly band Pete and the Panthers.

There will be various displays, food and stalls from the community, charities and vintage goods. Look out for their wonderful array of classic vehicles too.

You can also learn more about local history from Goole Civic Society, Boothferry Family History Group, Goole Museum and more.

East Yorkshire Thoroughbred Car Club are kindly marshalling the cars once again. Pre-book via www.eytcc.uk/events-calendar/vintage-in-thepark to confirm your car space or email events@eytcc.uk. Vintage cars preferred.

West Park Cafe will be open and weather permitting the mini garden centre will be too. Whether you grab a picnic and relax or dust off your dancing shoes and come and join in, there’s something for everyone!

Georgina Petty, Chair, FOWP, told Our Goole: “I organise events, handle social media, correspondence, collaborate with local community groups, fellow volunteers and the council to pull all the details together. It’s a team effort; we couldn’t do this without the enthusiasm of our small but committed group who make up FOWP, from local park lovers to councillors, community group members and more.

“We’re particularly grateful to Patrick Killgallon aka Paddy O’Kaye who has championed this event from the beginning. It is a lot of work but seeing smiling faces on the day makes it all worthwhile.

“As Vice Chair of Goole 2026 community group, I’m looking forward to building on this event for an even bigger celebration next year, so please get in touch if you’d like to be part of the fun, contact: friendsofwestpark@outlook.com.

So if you are looking for something fun for the whole family, why not head down to West Park on Sunday 20th July and support some of our great local groups and the fantastic work they do. Admission is free!

FROM A POLICE PERSPECTIVE:

Night Challenge winners announced

This month, Goole Policing Team talks to us about the annual Night Challenge Awards that took place in May, where participants were invited to celebrate their achievements alongside their friends and families

Hosted by the Community Safety Unit on the 2nd May, the evening was an opportunity for our event hosts, and the young people who took part, to say thank you to everybody who got involved in the evening, such as the event sponsors and volunteers.

This year, teams walked nearly 13 miles across Brantingham Dales whilst completing several thoughtprovoking challenges set out by our partners along the way. The aim is to build positive relationships between the police and young people within harder to reach groups across our communities. This year’s theme focused on discussions around healthy relationships, coercive control and violence against women and girls.

Each team is marked on well how they worked together as a team, including their communication skills across the night and how well they tackled the tasks together based on feedback from the challenge providers. From this, everyone was rewarded with a certificate and voucher for their commitment to taking part, with the top three teams winning additional prizes.

This year’s overall winners, were ‘Girls Aloud’ from Goole Youth Action who have won a trip to Mount Cook Adventure Centre in the Peak District.

After handing out the awards to the winners Chief Constable Chris Todd said: “It is fantastic to see so many young people here tonight and well done to all involved and for completing Night Challenge. Seeing how the event has had a positive impact on everyone involved is amazing, and I hope that by you taking part it has sown the seeds of something that may lead you to join the police.

“Everyone who has been involved has achieved something and it creates resilience, so if you ever think you can’t achieve, look back at Night Challenge and remember you are taking steps towards your future. I encourage you all to take advantage of those who have supported you so that together we can take the steps needed to make positive changes.”

If you are from an organisation that works with young people who you feel would benefit from being involved in Night Challenge 2026, please contact us at: NightChallenge@humberside.police.uk.

Howden Community Picnic in the Park

This event is a family-friendly community event bringing people together for a fun day out with music, activities, and entertainment in a relaxed outdoor setting on Sunday 22nd June, 12-4.30pm

This year’s Picnic in the Park will feature live music, children’s games and activities, local food and drink stalls, a raffle, and opportunities to learn about local groups and projects. It promises to be a vibrant and welcoming day for all ages.

There will be face painters, magicians and stilt walkers to entertain, plus the fabulous bands Cynical and Sandra’s Wedding. Sign With Sarah Jade will be performing and doing a workshop for people to learn a sign song.

The event is free for all to attend, run by SHaKE Howden and the Ashes Playing Field Trust.

On the day donations would be greatly received to ensure the event can run again.

Howden Community Picnic in the Park would like to mention local businesses, Filstorage, Wolds Skip Hire LTD and Howden Town Council for their generous donations.

This event celebrates the local community and encourage people to connect, and make the most of the shared green spaces.

While the event itself is free, any money raised through donations, raffles, or refreshments goes towards supporting future community events and maintaining local facilities.

Donations are required for their tombola, if anyone has anything they’d like to donate, please email: shakehowden@gmail.com

SHaKE Howden and Ashes Playing Field Trust are working in partnership to organise and host the event. Together, they plan the day, coordinate volunteers and activities, and make sure everything runs smoothly.

Both SHaKE and Ashes Playing Field Trust are involved in various community events and activities throughout the year, including seasonal celebrations, cinema days, and local fundraising efforts.

So if you are looking for something fun for the whole family, why not head down to Ashes Playing Field, Howden on Sunday 22nd June and support some of our great local groups and the fantastic work they do. Admission is free!

Local Personal Trainer Reveals “Boring” Yet Shockingly Effective Exercise

Are you interested in living a long, healthy, and happy life?

If so, read on.

My name is Phil Tyreman, and I am a personal trainer who lives in Goole with my wife and three children, and over the next few issues I am going to explain to you some straightforward ways to get stronger and more in shape.

But first...

I have a confession to make

A large part of the reason I am doing this is pure self interest. It is my hope that you will be so impressed by what you read that you decide to learn more about my methods by subscribing to my free daily email newsletter. And then, maybe, decide to buy one of my books or even work with me personally.

However.

I am also writing these articles to genuinely try and help out in whatever way I can. You see, I have discovered that emergency admissions for coronary heart disease and heart attack are both significantly higher than the national average among Goole residents, as is the incidence of cancer.

More:

Life expectancy is lower here than the England average for both men and women

Obviously, this will not do. Yet I’m not going to sit atop my ivory tower and demand everyone immediately begin training with the same discipline

and intensity as I do because that would be silly.

That said, I am not going to let you off the hook altogether. Because there is one simple form of physical exercise almost anyone can do so long as they’re willing.

And it is?

Walking!

Every day, without fail for at least half an hour but ideally an hour or more.

Boring?

Usually.

Effective?

Without a doubt.

It goes without saying you must never do exercises (including walking) that hurt or make an existing health problem worse. Those caveats aside, walking daily is, potentially, a gamechanger irrespective of age and fitness.

Alright, that shall do for this month.

For more in the meantime, subscribe to my free daily emails here: https://philtyreman.co.uk/ourgoole

Thank you, Phil Tyreman

This month, local property expert Phil Jones from Link Agency talks to us about

The importance of digital marketing when selling your property

Link Agency has fully embraced the digital revolution in the property selling space.

Using specialists who create social media content we have benefitted from promoting our brand and the properties that we list through multiple channels on a variety of platforms, which they have access to. We thereby are able to present our properties

to a wider market. So that as well as the regular Rightmove and Zoopla audience we also are able to put properties in front of thousands of potential buyers who are not really looking to move. This works especially well for unique or individual properties such as our property of the month. We even achieved 16,000 video views alone, with the potential to encourage interest.
