Goole Pride 2025

Head

down to Goole Town Centre on

Saturday 2nd

August,

12-5pm, for a day of fun, live music, entertainment and pride!

Goole Pride is a community event, celebrating and embracing diversity, inclusion and pride. It allows people from Goole and the surrounding communities an opportunity to come together in support and in solidarity. With live music, performances, poetry, stalls and, of course, drag queens, Goole Pride is a fun, free event for all to enjoy.

This year’s event will be held across The Precinct, filled with stalls which consist mostly of charities and local businesses. Among these stalls will be their very own Goole Pride stall where people can meet some of the people who work with Goole Pride and help them keep the event running.

There will be a few returning acts, which pride have been delighted with in the past. They always try to take as many of their performers as possible from the local area, supporting those living and working in Goole and the surrounding areas.

Amelia, deputy chairperson, Goole Pride, told Our Goole: “Goole Pride is constantly growing. Every year we try to put as much as we can into the event. It can be so complicated organising licensing, stall arrangements, a road closure, funding and more but we feel like every year we have become more and more organised. Every year it feels like we are a bit more on top of things as each of our committee

members gains more experience to act on and pass down to others.

“Being organised like this we get the necessary things done faster, which makes the difficult decisions easier to make as we have more time to step back and think about them. This year, we have secured funding earlier, we have been talking with other organisations earlier, we have opened stall applications earlier than last year and so much more. This takes so much pressure off the committee and allows us to focus on putting more time and creativity into the day itself and build a better event for the people of Goole.”

Goole Pride gives a voice and visibility to a marginalised group and brings people together to celebrate, learn and feel accepted and included.

Goole Pride hopes to continue to grow and make sure that our community knows we are here for them. There are lots of exciting plans for the future. They are always open to suggestions and new members of the team. Their monthly meetings can be attended by anybody wishing to give back to the community.

Goole Pride 2025 is grant funded by Goole Field Wind Farm Small Grant and sponsored by Siemens Mobility.

Keep your diary free on Saturday 2nd August and head down to Goole Town Centre which is sure to be a day filled with entertainment and pride.

FROM A POLICE PERSPECTIVE:

Humberside Police celebrated Volunteers’ Week

June welcomed the annual celebration of Volunteers’ Week which is the perfect time to hold Humberside Police’s annual Volunteer Awards to recognise and celebrate their dedicated team of helpers

Like many, the force cannot carry out the fantastic work they do without the help of brilliant volunteers who give up their time to ensure communities are safe and looked after.

Their brilliant team of volunteers have devoted 100, 500, 3,000, 5,000, and an incredible 6,000 hours of service to their communities. These hours reflect years of unwavering commitment, demonstrating the invaluable contributions of our volunteers. Additionally, they honoured those who have been with them for five, 10, and an astonishing 20 years, acknowledging their long-standing dedication.

Chief Constable Chris Todd was in attendance and said: “The range of our volunteers’ contributions are so varied from cadet leaders to event organisers,

community speed watch to young engagement. It was an inspiring evening, and I thank them all for their contribution to policing.”

Guests were treated to a spectacular performance by our newly formed Corps of Drums, a proud addition to their Concert Band who also volunteer their time. Their impressive display was a true showcase of talent and dedication.

The evening celebrated the dedication and commitment of our volunteers, whose selfless service continues to make a profound impact on our communities.

If you know of someone who would like to be a volunteer or join the band, please email:  anne.dyble@humberside.police.uk

How to Use Phil Tyreman’s Simple “Pyramid” Model to get Strong and in Shape

Last month, I mentioned how a simple daily walk is potentially a game-changer on the fitness front.

However.

I’d be bare-faced lying if I said that walking is ALL you need to do to get strong and in shape!

If only it were that easy, but alas, it is not.

Although crafting a sensible, sustainable regime is simple. Very simple, actually.

All you need are three elements:

1. A daily walk,

2. Resistance training (weights, bodyweight, or both),

3. “Hard” cardio (in quotes because hard is a relative term).

If you read last month’s article, you’re clued in on walking. But if you didn’t, you ought to walk every day without fail for at least 30 minutes. There are loads of reasons for doing this but the two main ones are to keep the belly at bay and help you recover from your other training.

Insofar as resistance is concerned, simple workouts built around core movement patterns (squatting, pressing, pulling, and hinging) are the way forward. Done correctly, it is these that will make the lion’s share of difference to how you look, feel, and perform.

Lastly, I mentioned that hard is a relative term when talking about cardio. What this means is that you never want to go longer, further, or

faster than YOU can comfortably manage.

How much of each should you do? It depends.

But generally speaking I recommend my:

Pyramid of Performance

Which is pictured below.

You’ll see walking is the base (because it’s done daily), resistance sits in the middle taking the second largest slice of your time and effort, and “hard” cardio caps it off.

Obviously there is more to it than that, but I’m running out of space here, so I have to wrap things up for this month.

I’ll talk more about resistance training in the next issue of Our Goole. In the meantime, if you’d like to learn more from me, I recommend subscribing to my free daily email newsletter via the below link (either type it into your browser or scan the QR code to access the signup page):

Local woman wins Miss Voluptuous England 2025

Miss Voluptuous Pageant is an International Beauty Pageant that focuses on empowering plus-sized women and promoting body positivity.

It aims to provide a platform for women to feel confident and proud of their bodies, regardless of their size. The pageant emphasizes sisterhood, community, and leadership, offering various opportunities for networking, skill development and role modeling.

Miss Voluptuous UK started nine years ago and went International in 2020. It is the only plussize exclusive pageant system in the UK.

Pippa told Our Goole: “ I entered the Miss Voluptuous Pageant because it represents everything I stand for, empowerment, body positivity, and the celebration of women in all their beautiful diversity.

“As the only plus-size exclusive pageant system in the UK, Miss Voluptuous offers a unique and powerful platform where women like myself can feel confident, supported, and proud of who we are.

“I was drawn to the strong sense of sisterhood and community it promotes, as well as the

incredible opportunities for personal growth, leadership, and being a positive role model.

“Knowing that the pageant has grown internationally since 2020, and has been making a difference for nine years, made me even more excited to be part of such an inspiring and meaningful movement. I also joined so I can raise awareness for my platform on mental health in farming and women in agriculture.”

The competition is split into five sections:-

1. Pre-pageant scoring

2. Personal introduction

3. Panel-style interview

4. National wear

5. Evening/formal wear

If Pippa wins the next stage, she would become Miss Voluptuous International and would carry on her reign with that title. She would spend time on important causes internationally, spreading as much information as possible. She would also be spreading the word about body positivity.

Pippa’s favourite quote is: “your worth is not defined by a number on a scale.”
