This month we speak to Sean Yendall, from Goole, who has recently taken part in a four-week film-making course at London Film Academy which has enabled him to commence with the filming of two new projects.

We also shine a light on Huddle Goole,

which offers the opportunity for people of all ages and backgrounds in our community to come together and meet others who are interested in arts, crafts, and now music.

Sean Yendall, from Goole, has recently taken part in a four-week film-making course at London Film Academy, which has enabled him to commence with the filming of two new projects

Sean is a lifelong movie enthusiast with a passion for all genres, but it’s the emotional and inspirational films that truly captivate him.

He told Our Goole: “After spending many Saturdays in Goole Library, honing my skills in writing screenplays, a wonderful lady called Julie, who is a Personal Advisor with the Opportunity Goole team, approached me and explained what it was all about.

“I was thrilled that, finally, I may get to do some real training with industry professionals and receive a recognised award while doing so. The grant application process was very quick and the team had a genuine interest in me, which was exhilarating.”

Opportunity Goole is a service for residents aged 16+ and employers of Goole to assist in accessing existing training services, employment opportunities and business support.

Part of the Town Deal programme, Opportunity Goole is a bespoke, locally-focused provision to upskill and improve the employability of those already in work, seeking work or further education.

Sean told Our Goole: “I’ve recently discovered a passion for screenwriting, the creative freedom to build compelling characters and craft stories that truly resonate with audiences is an incredibly rewarding experience.”

“Opportunity Goole helped me gain a recognised qualification for film-making with the London Film Academy. It has helped me with writing and the whole process needed to bring my stories to life.”

Sean is currently working with a director of photography, Fraser MacCallum, from Northampton, who he met on the fourweek course, Harvey Griffin, film editor and colourist, and Maya Hollien, film director.

The two projects they are working on are due to commence filming at the end of Augustthese are called Jester and BeKind

Both focus on issues in society from men’s mental health to bullying and suicide.

Courier fraud cost victims across Humberside more than £129,000 between 2024 and 2025. These scams often begin with a phone call from someone claiming to be from your bank, the police, or another local authority. The caller may claim your account has been compromised and asks you to provide personal or banking details – including your PIN – to help with an ‘investigation’.

Fraudsters often use basic personal information, like your name and address, to sound convincing. They can persuade victims to buy high-value items like gift cards or jewellery for so-called ‘evidence’. A ‘courier’ is then sent to your home to collect the items or your bank card – but this is all part of the scam. They can impersonate family members and friends, asking you to purchase gift cards on their behalf.

Inspector Mark Hawley from Humberside Police’s Economic Crime Team said: “Fraudsters are abusing

Huddle Goole is a not-for-profit Community Interest Company (CIC) which offers the opportunity for people of all ages and backgrounds in our community to come together and meet others who are interested in arts, crafts, and now music

Huddle Goole is a place where people can socialise and take part in arts and craft activities which are accessible for all with a mixture of workshops and regular daytime sessions that are low cost.

Started by husband and wife team Roger and Lisa, they told Our Goole: “For many years as a family we have enjoyed hobbies in music and crafts, but we’ve always had to travel outside of the immediate area of our hometown Goole. Whilst there are local pub bands and occasional craft lessons in Goole, there was nowhere to pursue formal music in the town, or sessions

to participate in crafts and hobbies on a regular basis with like-minded members of our community in a central location.

“For the last few years we’ve thought it would be a great idea to have a community space and we have discussed many times how we could create a space and run it as a not-for-profit organisation.

“In March 2024, the refurbishment of the bandstand at Riverside Gardens spurred on this discussion. It’s fantastic to see part of Goole’s history being brought to life but a real shame that there wasn’t a wind band in Goole to perform in it.

“We took the plunge and co-founded Goole & East Riding Community Concert Band the following month. It’s an inclusive band where local woodwind, brass and percussion musicians of all abilities can pop in and play for fun, with the aim of performing in the communityincluding at the newly refurbished bandstand.

“With support from the Drax Community Fund, posting on Facebook, the local press, posters and attending community events to promote it, the band was established and has circa 20 local musicians who meet on a weekly basis. We fulfilled our ambition of playing in the Riverside Gardens bandstand in May of this year, opening the VE day celebrations.

“Building on the success of the concert band, we looked at how we could bring our vision of creating a community space in Goole that can promote music, hobbies and social activities for the local community of Goole and surrounding

villages and that’s when Huddle Goole was formed.”

Huddle Goole has a number of activities weekly. They offer activities for adults, such as their evening workshops and daytime craft companion sessions; and craft activities for children on Saturday mornings and during the school holidays - there is something for everyone.

They also have Huddle’s Youth Music Programme, which loans out musical instruments to children and young adults while they join them for weekly group-based sessions to enable them to learn how to read music, play the instrument and commence their journey into the lifelong hobby of making music.

This month I am going to give as much of an overview of resistance training as I can in 350 words or so, then direct you to a free resource to cover the remainder.

We begin.

Ideally, you want to do two or three “full body” workouts per week, comprising a healthy blend of free weights, machines, and bodyweight exercises. Those exercises should fall mostly under the umbrella of what I have termed the:

“Six Primary Movement Patterns”

Which are:

1. The vertical press (e.g. overhead presses),

2. The squat (e.g. air squats and barbell back squats),

3. The horizontal press (e.g. the bench press and pushups),

4. The horizontal pull (e.g. dumbbell rows and inverted rows),

5. The vertical pull (e.g. lat pull downs and pullups of all types), and,

6. The hinge (e.g. the various permutations of the deadlift and kettlebell swings).

On top of that, you ought to include a little work for the arms, calves, and abs for completeness.

But it’s easy for me to say all of this and quite another to put it into action.

Indeed, I regularly see earnest and hardworking folk slaving away in the weightroom, only to look worse for it

(and often wind up struggling with aches and pains to boot!)

The problem?

Too many sets, too many reps, too much weight… and if you’re guilty of even one of these fitness “sins” then there’s a strong possibility your efforts are…

… Doomed!

Has the market recovered?

Halifax has described the housing market as “steady” after its latest House Price Index, showing price growth was flat in June.

The lender’s latest figures show house price growth was flat on a monthly basis in June compared with a 0.3% dip in May, while annual price inflation slowed from 2.6% to 2.5%.

Average prices were down by 0.3% on a quarterly basis.

But in more positive news, Halifax said

first-time buyer numbers have returned to pre-stamp duty change levels.

With markets pricing in two more rate cuts from the Bank of England by year end, and the average rate on newly drawn mortgages now at its lowest since 2023, we continue to expect modest house price growth in the second half of the year.
