When a new business comes to town, you want to know a bit about them and their background, right? Well, let’s start from the beginning.

Dan Salagean, 36, and his wife Marioara, 25, are originally from Romania, more specifically from

Transylvania, where the famous Count Dracula lived. Dan finished finance and banking studies and Marioara finished veterinary technician courses in Romania. Dan came over to the UK in 2013 for better opportunities and to start a career.

Dan was a fitter for high-end companies in London for about seven years. He fitted the most distinguished and expensive wood floors for very well-known personalities. He came to Goole in 2019 in order to start collaborating with a fellow flooring company.

After identifying that this type of flooring is not very well known in this area, they decided to part ways and Dan started looking into different options with how to bring this distinguished wood floor to the forefront here in East Yorkshire.

In February 2021 Salagean Ltd was registered as a business - up until then they were trading as sole traders. Salagean Ltd has gone from strength to strength over the last couple of years, this is why they decided it’s now time to open a showroom - so people can see the product in person as wood floors are more than just a nice picture you see online.

Salagean Ltd offers supply and installation of top quality solid wood flooring that’s hand crafted, stained and finished in their workshop. Their floors are unique and they like to refer to them as ‘veritable pieces of art’. “Operation Sceptre is rolled out across the country twice a year with an aim to reduce the number of people carrying weapons, especially young people.”

to tackle knife crime

Humberside Police are supporting the national campaign to tackle knife crime – Operation Sceptre

Last month, there was an opportunity to surrender any knives, bladed weapons, and offensive weapons into police stations across the region.

Following legislation, brought in on the 14 July 2021, it is illegal to own certain items including knuckle dusters, zombie knives and throwing stars –even within a private dwelling.

Knife bins were placed outside of the following stations: Goole, Bridlington, Grimsby, Barton, Pocklington, Clough Road, Osborne Street, Beverley, and Scunthorpe.

Superintendent Jenny Bristow is leading this operation and said: “Operation Sceptre is rolled out across the country twice a year with an aim to reduce the number of people carrying weapons, especially young people.

“Knife crime presents very real dangers and puts people at risk of serious harm.

“I want to make it clear to people that there are no questions asked, they can take a knife, or other weapon, to any of the mentioned stations and simply go in and deposit it in the knife bin. There are no forms to complete, and no one should need to make any record of you being there.

“We just want to get as many unused knives and weapons out of circulation as possible, so that they cannot get into the wrong hands and be used in crime.

“I am also wishing to reassure the public that we do not have an escalating knife problem in our area, but it is vital to raise awareness of the dangers of knife crime, one young life saved through this scheme is worth everything.”

Inspector Gary Wilson, supporting the operation, added: “We will be providing knife bins throughout the week in a number of police stations across the force, where members of the public can anonymously and safely hand in weapons to remove these from our streets.

“Our officers will be conducting weapon sweeps throughout our force area, with proactive patrols attending local places of education to speak to young people about the dangers of carrying knives.

“Our message to those who carry a knife – or those who are thinking of carrying a knife – this does not protect you. It makes you more vulnerable and places you in greater danger of serious harm.”

How did you feel when you found out you were a finalist for Large Business of the Year?

We were thrilled to be recognised as a finalist for Large Business of the Year.

Did it cross your mind that you would scoop the Overall Business of the Year accolade? Winning Overall Business of the Year was such an honour and something we had never considered. When our name was announced we were all in shock, but very proud.

Could you sum up how you felt after winning both awards?

As a team we were delighted, we felt a sense of accomplishment and very proud to be recognised in our hometown.
