INTRODUCTION

Hello and welcome to your July edition of Our Goole.

So far, the weather has been a little hit and miss, let’s hope the sun comes out for July, eh?

This month will see the school year come to an end - we hope you have some brilliant plans organised with the family over the summer holidays, whether that be jetting off somewhere or staying local.

In this edition, we chat to local group

Friends of West Park, who are holding their annual Vintage Fair this month.

We showcase some of the local photos taken by our readers, keep your images coming for the chance to see them in print, send them to info@createtvt.co.uk.

Our lovely front page image was taken by the very talented Lewis Durkin.

We will see you again in August, but for now sit back with a cuppa and enjoy your latest instalment of Our Goole. @ourgoole

FROM A POLICE

Win or lose, football is no excuse for domestic

abuse!

“The Euros should be about family and friends coming together to watch the game and follow their team throughout the tournament but sadly, for some, tournaments like these are associated with prolonged periods of physical and psychological abuse.”

PERSPECTIVE:

This month, Goole Policing team talks to us about the importance of preventing domestic abuse during the summer period especially with there’s a football tournament

The sun is out, the beer gardens are filling up and the anticipation is building ,and while the majority of our communities will be having a ball when the Euros 2024 kick off, for some, they are left feeling frightened, trapped and alone as their partners kick off at them regardless of whether England win or lose.

Domestic abuse can happen to anybody at any time, it is not discriminatory on age, sexual orientation, gender, background, or religion.

However, we do see women being disproportionately affected by domestic abuse, even more so during sporting events such as the Euros and that is why tackling violence against women and girls remains an utmost priority for our force.

Ahead of the Euros 2024, Superintendent Phil Booker said: “The Euros should be about

family and friends coming together to watch the game and follow their team throughout the tournament but sadly, for some, tournaments like these are associated with prolonged periods of physical and psychological abuse.

“Regardless of whether a team wins or lose, any form of abuse, physical, psychological or financial, it is never OK, and it is really important that members of our community know we are on hand to do what we can to help alongside partnering agencies, whether that be through preventative support or if you want to break the cycle and get away from your partner.

“We take all incidents extremely seriously and we would encourage anyone who believes they have been a victim or witness domestic abuse, in any form, to contact us as soon as possible.

To report domestic abuse call us on 101 or if you’re in immediate danger, always call us on 999.”

Vintage in the Park 2024

Friends of West Park are back and proud to present Vintage in the Park which will take place on Sunday 21st July between 12-4pm

Last year the hugely popular event coincided with the celebration of 100 years of West Park… And what a celebration it was. The focus is on celebrating all things vintage. Bring your deckchair, natty hats and dancing shoes and join in.

This year, for the third year running, Vintage in the Park brings you classic cars, displays, exhibitions and dancing along with DJ Paddy O’Kaye spinning vintage feel-good tunes on the

bandstand and singing duo the Moonshiners. East Yorkshire Thoroughbred Car Club is assisting with stewarding this year with around 200 cars expecting to attend.

West Park Cafe will be open with a vintage-themed menu especially for the day.

All proceeds go back to West Park via Friends of West Park, whether that’s covering event costs, park improvements or contributing to funding more activities in the park.

West Park is for everyone to enjoy. Friends of West Park is entirely voluntarily run by local park users and supporters. Interested in finding out more about them? Contact friendsofwestpark@outlook. com or find them on Facebook.

So if you are looking for something fun for the whole family, why not head down to West Park on Sunday 21st July and support some of our great local groups and the fantastic work they do. Admission is free!
