Restoration Headquarters Update

Formerly known as the Violet Site and used exclusively for oyster shell recycling, we are expanding our St. Bernard home to encompass all CRCL coastal restoration efforts. Thousands of native plants will be grown at our Restoration Headquarters and eventually be planted along the coast by our amazing volunteers. Sprouting cypress Ctrees ypress tree nursery

Coastal Stewardship Awards

On Thursday May 12, CRCL honored those who have shown an extraordinary commitment to coastal Louisiana at our 2022 Coastal Stewardship Awards at the LSU AgCenter Botanic Gardens. Since in 1995, our Coastal Stewardship Awards recognize individuals and groups who have made significant contributions to the preservation and restoration of Louisiana’s coastal wetlands. It is the highest award CRCL can give to honor those who show an extraordinary commitment to our coast. Congrats to all the winners!

Volunteer Events

We have wrapped up volunteer events for the summer! So far this year we have hosted 9 oyster shell bagging events (bagging over 30 tons of shell!), 2 reef deployment events, and 12 tree plantings! Including a project in partnership with Glass Half Full, the location of our first oyster shell public drop-off. Keep an eye out for more opportunities coming this Fall. Volunteers at our last event of the season, deploying recycled glass sand from Glass Half Full, and planting marsh grasses.

Restoration on the Half Shell

On Saturday, June 25th, CRCL hosted our annual coastal education event, Restoration on the Half Shell (ROTHS), at Docville Farm. This event was a fun, interactive way to learn about coastal restoration. Also included was a tabling session featuring several community partners, raffle items, music from Michot's Melody Makers, food, and tours of our Restoration Headquarters. Dozens of concerned coastal citizens visited our Restoration Headquarters and were in awe of the mountain of oyster shells collected from your restaurants. This event was a HUGE success with over 100 attendees engaging in coastal topics.
