How to Receive a Tax Credit for Recycling

Oyster Shells

Here's what you need to know:

Your restaurant can receive a tax credit of $1 for every 50 pounds of shell (up to $2,000 annually) for all shell recycled since January 1, 2024.

Restaurants will be responsible for applying for the credit with their taxes each year.

The Oyster Shell Recycling Program will provide each participating restaurant with quarterly receipts detailing the weight of recycled oyster shell material. Be on the lookout for these receipts soon!

Restaurants will be required to submit the quarterly receipts provided by the OSRP with their tax credit application.

UPCOMING CRCL RESTORATION EVENTS

TAX CREDIT

We ask that you keep the quarterly receipts on file to submit with your tax credit application. All receipts will be from 2024: the timeframe of eligibility.

Copies of lost receipts will be available by request (email oysters@crcl.org).

CRCL established the Oyster Shell Recycling Program (OSRP) in 2014 to keep shell out of landfills and slow coastal land loss.

In partnership with New Orleans and Baton Rouge area restaurants and our legion of volunteers, we collect oyster shells to restore reefs that help protect Louisiana’s eroding coastline.

Since starting the program, we have recycled more than 14 million pounds of shell and protected over 8,400 feet of shoreline along the coast.

Once you shuck ’em, don’t just chuck ’em!
