Greetings, The beginning of each fiscal year presents as a moment to reflect on what has been, to consider what the next twelve months might entail, and to think deeply about what the Lord requires of us Here at Colgate Rochester Crozer Divinity School (CRCDS), we give thanks for 203 years of continuous operations in support of student learning and service to and with communities with whom the school has shared values. Our very name symbolizes a commitment to partnership and collaboration. As we strive to live our mission, we give thanks for institutional relationships that are not reflected in our name Baptist Missionary Training School, Saint Bernard’s School of Theology and Ministry, Bexley Seabury as we remain grounded in a hope that CRCDS has come this far by faith For such a time as now a time marked by multiple pandemics, insurrections, mass shootings, and calls to actions we trust God to revive us again
Here at CRCDS, we embark upon the 2022 2023 fiscal year mindful of a responsibility to explore the relationship between space and mission as we encourage you to participate actively in the life of the school. We acknowledge we are not in a post COVID 19 world and have a responsibility to make decisions in the best interest of students, faculty, and staff. We are aware of diverse learning styles and will prioritize an investment in technology to provide students options for preferred instructional modalities We are concerned that ministry not be perceived as an individualistic endeavor and will emphasize formation as a communal practice . THE PRESIDENT Rev. Angela D. Sims, Ph.D.

Rev. Dr. James H. Evans, Jr. 1950 2022
The Reverend Dr James H Evans, Jr departed this life in Rochester, New York on Thursday, August 25, 2022 His contribution to the life of the seminary as an administrator, scholar, and teacher helped to shape the foundation on which Colgate Rochester Crozer Divinity School (CRCDS) rests With gratitude and pride, Colgate Rochester Crozer Divinity School honors the life and legacy of Professor and President Emeritus The Reverend Dr. James H. Evans, Jr. The school’s 9th President, Dr. Evans was, in 1990, the first African American to serve as CRCDS’ Chief Executive Officer. During his ten year tenure, the seminary established the Program for the Study of Women and Gender in Church and Society, focused on faculty recruitment, increased the endowment, created the Tower Society, and increased available scholarships for students Dr. Evans joined the divinity school’s faculty in 1979 as an Instructor of Theology and Black Church Studies Upon conferral of the PhD in 1980, he was advanced to full time tenure track status During his almost three decades of service to students and the broader community, Dr Evans served with distinction as Dean of the Program of Black Church Studies, the Martin Luther King, Jr Memorial Professor of Theology and Black Church Studies and, the Robert K. Davies Professor of Systematic Theology.
REMEMBERING AND LEGACY
THE LIFE

EVANS, JR. SEPTEMBER 2022 | 5
A native of Detroit, Michigan and the son of a Baptist minister, Dr Evans is a graduate of the Cranbrook Schools, the University of Michigan (A.B.), Yale University Divinity School (M.Div.), and Union Theological Seminary in the City of New York (M.Phil. and Ph.D). He was consecrated as a Bishop in The Kingdom Council of Interdependent Christian Churches and Ministries in 2016. His service to church and numerous local and national non profits and boards includes a four year term as President of the American Baptist Association of Seminary Administrators, President of the Rochester Area College Presidents, and Vice Chair of the Board of Education and Publications for the Progressive National Baptist Convention, USA

REV. DR.
A funeral service was held on September 9, 2022 at Aenon Missionary Baptist Church in Rochester, New York
Dr Evans and his wife, the Reverend Dr Linda Hickmon Evans, are the founding Pastors of the St. Luke Tabernacle Community Church in Rochester, New York, established in 2000, and St. Luke Tabernacle Community Church of Detroit, Michigan in 2006. Bishop James H. Evans Jr., PhD is the father of three: James, Jamila, and Jumaane, and grandfather of four: Christian James, Jayla Symone, Jayden Valentina, and Josiah Beau
A member of several academic guilds, to include the Society for the Study of Black Religion, Dr Evans is the author of numerous articles and five books: Playing: Christian Explorations of Daily Living; We Shall All Be Changed: Social Problems and Theological Renewal; We Have Been Believers: An African American Systematic Theology; Black Theology: A Critical Assessment and Annotated Bibliography; and Spiritual Empowerment in Afro American Literature. Co editor of Modern Christian Thought, Volume II, Second Edition, Dr. Evans authored a three act play, Swamp Angel JAMES H.

Jonathan Stafford graduated with a Master of Arts with a concentration in Ethics in 2017 He currently serves as the Culture and Engagement Manager at Washington Area Bicyclist Association (WABA) in Washington, D.C.
WABA acquires, manages, and distributes our limited resources in ways that align to our values and best serve the people and communities in our region And when they are successful, their transportation system looks different easier to use, accessible to everyone, more affordable, and climate resilient and more people join them for the ride.
Jonathan became passionate about racial justice long before his current position.

Johnathan said “CRCDS is a school known for social justice and a rich history of preparing people for a life in Christian service I think this is just an extension of those things”
He said “one of my mentors used to say, "the devil can't have all the good lawyers, and Christians can't be the only one taking out the trash". In other words the kingdom needs all of us, doing what God has gifted us with. No matter where I am, or what I end up doing, the lessons learned and connections made at CRCDS are a big part of that”.
Transportation equity means that who you are doesn’t limit how you get around. In an equitable transportation system, your identity and experience your race, gender, or ability; how much money you have, and where you live don’t affect whether you can use safe, comfortable multimodal transportation options
Jonathan said “the work I do allows me to continue to rethink and re engage with the limitless number of ways that justice can be experienced in our daily lives. Working in transportation equity has given me an opportunity marry my experiences towards a better understanding of how religion and politics often overlap”
CRCDS ALUMNI/AE PROFILE SEPTEMBER 2022 | 6 Jonathan R. Stafford CRCDS ’17
Prior to enrolling in at CRCDS he was a Police Officer in Southeast Texas for 10 years He was considering returning to police work but then the death of Trayvon Martin and the silence of "good cops" he called friends changed where he thought he could have the greatest impact. Jonathon wanted to understand and needed to rethink ways in which the faith he espoused could once again help move us towards a life that he had read so much about, so he enrolled at CRCDS.
WABA empowers people to ride bikes, build connections, and transform places. They envision a just and sustainable transportation system where walking, biking, and transit are the best ways to get around.
WABA supports transportation equity.

TUITION SUBSCRIPTION
"The TSP program made a high quality theological education affordable for me. I am able to attend the program without taking on additional debt or liabilities."

Tuition costs are offset by the generosity of CRCDS donors and the scholarship funds they provide. Institutional aid is applied to everyone, making the $300/month payment, possible Allows for monthly budgeting Allows for the potential to decrease overall student debt Allows for focus on studies as opposed to finances For additional information, please contact admissions@crcds.edu. or scan the QR code below. We understand that our students are mostly bi vocational and second career and already engaged actively in ministry, juggling mortgages, childcare, and other priorities, or that some may already be at their federal aid loan limits This program allows a student to include their tuition payment in their monthly budget. This program also has the potential to alleviate some of the burden of tuition costs that contributes to student debt Rather than focusing on cost, the tuition subscription plan allows our students to concentrate on their theological journey.

With the new rates: Barbara receives annual payments of $1,375, a rate of 55% This is a payout rate increase of approximately 06%
Consider the gift that pays you: a charitable gift annuity. Payout rates have gone up, so you can increase your income even more and keep it that way no matter what the economy does With a gift annuity, you make a donation using cash, marketable securities or other assets, and we, in turn, pay you a fixed amount for life You’ll receive reliable, predictable payments for your lifetime (and the lifetime of a loved one, if you choose)
With the old rates: Barbara received annual payments of $1,225, a rate of 49%
