A MESSAGE

FROM OUR PRESIDENT

PRESIDENT KEN SHERMAN

Breaking Records and Setting the Bar High It seems like just yesterday I was writing to you about the Parade of Homes. As I write this column, the leaves have long gone from the trees. Summer in the Capital Region passes much too quickly…

While sharing what their committee does, committee members encouraged the nearly 100 members in attendance to pledge to complete a specific micro-volunteer task. I was speechless to learn that 100 commitment cards were collected!

As we have all been busy in the building industry, CRBRA has been quite busy as well. As usual, the Golf Tournament was well-attended in July. The annual Day at the Track in August was such a success that tickets sold out faster than ever before and we reached a record-high attendance. One of the goals in our Strategic Plan this year was to create more micro-volunteering opportunities to encourage member involvement at a variety of levels. Our committees and councils did a great job identifying micro-volunteer opportunities and gathered at the General Membership Meeting at Pat’s Barn in October to represent their respective committee. While sharing what their committee does, committee members encouraged the nearly 100 members in attendance to pledge to complete a specific micro-volunteer task. I was speechless to learn that 100 commitment cards were collected, with many members volunteering for multiple tasks. The commitment and dedication of our members never fails to amaze me.

Speaking of our members amazing me with their dedication, volunteers from CRBRA’s Board of Directors recently came together to complete a small project on relatively short notice. Things of My Very Own, a non-profit in Schenectady, provides crisis intervention services to children impacted by extensive abuse or neglect. In anticipation of the upcoming holiday season, they were in need of shelving at their location to house the items they collect. Thank you to Quality PM, Pipino Builders, Bellevue Builders Supply and Curtis Lumber for stepping up to the plate providing supplies, building and installing the shelves in record time. CRBRA is proud to be hosting one of the gift giving trees for Things of My Very Own this holiday season. Please don’t be shy about stopping in to pick up a tag for someone in great need. Many of you will be receiving this magazine at the Best in Building Awards event, which has quickly become one of the highlights of the year. Each year, this committee works for months to make this event better than the year before. The event is breaking records again this year thanks to the support of our members who sponsored, entered submissions and plan to attend the event. I can’t wait to see everyone’s wonderful work! Thank you to everyone…big and small...who takes time from their busy schedule to be involved with CRBRA. I look forward to seeing you at this year’s remaining events.

7th Annual Best in Building Awards 48 award winners from 28 companies

The Best in Building Awards recognizes CRBRA members for their excellence and innovation in residential building, remodeling, design, marketing and more. In its 7th year, this much-anticipated annual event drew a record number of entries from members showcasing their talents. Submitted projects ranged from kitchens and bathrooms to closets, showrooms and social media efforts. Of the 54 possible awards that entries could be submitted for this year, CRBRA received entries in 48. Since its inception, the Best in Building Award entries have been judged blindly by out-of-market industry experts to maintain objectivity. This year was no different with judges as far west as Washington State and down south to Charleston, South Carolina. Each award category was judged by at least three of the judges who were asked to review all entries before awarding any scores. Their scores were based on a scale of one to ten, with one being the lowest and ten the highest. The judges scores were then averaged to declare a winner. The judges task was not an easy one. Judge Christopher Klick, owner of CK Contracting in Charleston, said “Everyone should be proud of their work and the efforts made to help clients achieve their needs and wants. There’s no place like home and it shows through these photos!” As we go to print on this special Best in Building Awards issue, we’re anticipating more than 200 attendees for the event at the New York State Museum on Thursday, November 14. General William C. Martin, President and Founder of The Initiatives Group, LLC, a management consulting firm specializing in leadership development, will deliver this year’s keynote remarks. A first this year includes the addition of an emcee, WNYT’s Sports Anchor Chris Onorato.
