Proceeds that Make a Difference
When Korczak accepted the invitation to carve a Mountain Memorial to Native American culture, he determined that it would be an educational and humanitarian project. He wanted Crazy Horse to be much more than “just” a colossal Mountain Carving. THE INDIAN MUSEUM OF NORTH AMERICA® is home to a large collection of art and artifacts reflecting the diverse histories and cultures of over 300 Native Nations. The Museum, designed to complement the story being told in stone on the Mountain, presents the lives of American Indians and preserves Native Culture for future generations. In 2010, THE INDIAN UNIVERSITY OF NORTH AMERICA® welcomed students for the first year. Native students who start college at THE INDIAN UNIVERSITY OF NORTH AMERICA® are provided an unconventional level of student support from University Student Success Coaches, onsite and regardless of where students pursue their degrees. Each year, University leaders complete a college persistence/college completion research report involving summer program participants. The last survey attained a 89% response rate and confirmed that 80% of the respondents remained in college or had graduated. College graduates currently work as teachers, counselors, social workers, nurses, an assistant museum curator, business professionals, bank examiner, police officer, a dental hygienist, and the list goes on. Typically, many college graduates return to the reservation to share their talents or they are employed by a Native-led organization.

Crazy Horse Memorial is proud to SAVE THE host a special event for the benefit DATE! of the educational components of its SATURDAY, mission: The Indian Museum of North OCT. 9TH America® and The Indian University of AT 6PM North America®. Join us for a live and silent auction, Saturday, October 9th, at 6:00 pm, featuring nearly 50 items from various donors and friends of the Memorial, given specifically for the purpose of fundraising. Items auctioned will include original works of art by western and Native inspired artists, modern pueblo pottery pieces, and signed reproduction prints by famed Native Potawatomi 20th Century Artist, Woody Crumbo. Food, drinks, and live entertainment await you for a night of fun and friendship to support our University and our Museum. We hope you’ll join us!

Reidy Estate Auction Items
The Reidy estate auction items are donations from the Estate of Michael Reidy. Michael Anthony Reidy, was from Virginia Beach Florida. Michael grew up in Havertown PA, and later served in the Navy, in South Carolina. After returning from active duty, he was taught fine art and oil painting restoration by his father Francis, and eventually took over his father’s art gallery, McClee’s in Haverford PA, upon his father’s passing. He moved to Virginia Beach in 1997 where he continued art restoration until his death. Michael was an active member of the A.R.E. and enjoyed just about anything having to do with the outdoors. He was an avid hiker and traveled the world. Michael was a lover and collector of Native American art and artifacts, and it was his wish to donate a portion of his collection to the Crazy Horse Memorial, for use in fundraising and the Museum. The items in this list are those which were selected from his generous estate to go towards the Memorial’s educational Mission, and support The Indian Museum of North America®.

Harvey Abeyta (Artist ) Donation Harvey Abeyta is a Pueblo Artist from the Santo Domingo Pueblo in New Mexico. Harvey and his wife Priscilla Nieto are regular participants in the past few years, at the Annual Gift From Mother Earth Native and Western Art Show and Sale, held here at Crazy Horse Memorial for the last 31 years. While Harvey mostly works in jewelry making, he took up an interest in the ancient Indigenous art of flint knapping stones in the early 1990’s. Noticing that not many of his Pueblo People still did flint knapping, Harvey sought out his own education, and eventually began learning from a man named David Holiday, who was a an authentically trained replica maker and film consultant. Trading him for hand carved arrows, Harvey began learning how to do his own flint knapping, which he now does mostly in obsidian rock. Harvey has been making and selling his stone work professionally since 2005. Today he makes various knives for sale, for reproduction to give to Pueblo elders, and he teaches this ancestral practice to students at Bandolier National Park, leading classes of students setup right on the rim of the Grand Canyon. Harvey believes that in holding a knife made from a stone tool, it connects you to your heritage and your history, and makes you one with your ancestors in power and energy. This beautiful souvenir piece will make an excellent addition to any collection of ancient tool points, or an authentic decorative addition to any rustic chic setting.

Yakley Auction Items The Yakley Collection was given to The Crazy Horse Memorial in 2014 for the purpose of being utilized in Museum Fundraising operations. The items within were given by Bob & Rosemary Yakley of Denver Colorado, who wished for these items, purchased during visits to the Southwestern United States and the Pueblo regions, to benefit the Museum.

L Woody Crumbo Artwork
Woodrow Wilson “Woody” Crumbo (January 21, 1912—April 4, 1989) was a Native Potawatomi artist, and Native American flute player and dancer. Spanning an impressive and award winning career, Woody’s original paintings inspired by his life in the American West, are held in collections at museums such as the Smithsonian and the Gilcrease. The print collections of Crumbo’s work belonging to the Development Division of The Crazy Horse Memorial Foundation, were purchased by our Museums’ original Director and Founder, Anne Ziolkowski Christiansen. The items came from Woody’s son, Woody M. Crumbo. Inheriting the printing rites to his father’s original works, Woody M. Crumbo produced these incredible reproduction prints of some of Woody Crumbo senior’s most iconic artwork. The pieces are valued between $200 and $850 each, and will make an excellent addition to any contemporary Native Art Collection.
