The Greater Wildwood area has been a fisherman’s paradise for hundreds of years. Indians made an annual sojourn onto our island to enjoy the surf and to feast on the wide variety of seafood that was available. Times haven’t changed much . . . countless vacationers cross the bridge onto our island for the very same reasons as the Indians of long ago. Our island has been and will remain uniquely situated in the Grand Plan of seashore design. As a barrier island, it creates an excellent ocean environment that literally attracts game and sport fish into our area by the thousands. Surf fishing is excellent and several jetties provide easy access to our prime surf fishing spots. Deep sea fishing boats are available for those adventurous vacationers who wish to ply the waters for marlin, tuna, bonito, or albacore. Party boats abound, and you are almost guaranteed a catch of flounders, weakfish, or mackerel. In fact, every game fish can be found immediately off our coast at one point in the summer. Crabbing is very popular and quite easy even 10

for a novice. The Wildwood’s can easily claim to be New Jersey’s hottest spot for the Blue Crab. This tasty “critter” can be caught in all estuaries and waterways on the inland side of the Wildwoods. Fishing tournaments are held annually and world-records are occasionally broken by a vacationer trying his luck for the first time. Fishing in the Wildwoods has been a way of life for generations. Join with us and share in our marine abundance. No license is required and equipment rental shops are numerous. Treat yourself to an excellent day’s fishing and return home with the one that “didn’t get away”.
