Recreation Pavilion Inclement Weather Policy The following inclement weather policies will be in effect dependent upon the Edmonds School District closure/delay statuses. On bad weather days, please check our Mountlake Terrace Recreation and Parks Facebook page, the City of Mountlake Terrace Government page, and CityofMLT on Twitter for updates.

IF PUBLIC SCHOOLS ARE CLOSED

If the Edmonds School District has cancelled school due to inclement weather, the Recreation Pavilion will open two hours late for drop in programs. Programs such as all Kids Krew sites, Junior Kids Krew, Preschool, Kindergarten Readiness, Swimming Lessons, Water Fitness, Land Fitness and Dance Classes with a start time prior to 3:00 p.m. will be cancelled. Weather conditions will be reassessed in the afternoon for later programs.

IF PUBLIC SCHOOLS ARE DELAYED

If the Edmonds School District has a two-hour late start, the Recreation Pavilion will open two hours late for drop in programs. Junior Kids Krew and all Kids Krew sites will also start two hours late, opening at 8:30 a.m. instead of 6:30 a.m.

In this situation, Preschool and Kindergarten Readiness will be cancelled. For Swimming Lessons and Dance Classes on delayed start days, we will cancel the classes held during the delay. All classes held after the delay will begin at their regularly scheduled time.

For information on Swimming Lessons and Dance Classes with a start time after 3:00 p.m. on days when the Edmonds School District cancels classes, please call the Recreation Pavilion at (425) 776-9173 after 2:30 p.m. to find out whether these classes will be held. We will try our best to keep social media updated as well.

In all cases, conditions will be reassessed. Preschool, Kindergarten Readiness, Swimming Lessons and Dance Classes that are missed due to weather or closure of the Pavilion will not be made up. Make up days for Junior Kids Krew and Kids Krew will be the same as the Edmonds School District make-up days. Mountlake Terrace Recreation and Parks understands that times have been challenging lately.

Staff are excited to be at the Pavilion, parks and athletic facilities in the city to provide programs and events to you, the community. This issue of the CRAZE includes a full schedule and the hope is that all the programs and events listed in this edition will happen as planned. However, we are living in uncertain times and cannot guarantee that we will be able to offer all programs or may have to make alterations to program attendance maximum limits, times, and/or spaces to meet depending on guidance from the Snohomish Health Department and staffing levels. Staff will do the best they can to keep this electronic copy of the Craze, the website, social media, and any other outlets up to date with program information.

Recreation and Parks are an important part of every community and especially here in Mountlake Terrace. We look forward to seeing you back in the pool, in dance and fitness classes, and enjoying all the other amenities we offer at the Pavilion and in our parks. SWIM INSTRUCTION

Swim Instruction Our warm water, multi-depth pool is great for learning. Children will progress with confidence and learn to love the water.

Our enthusiastic and well-trained instructors create a positive and fun experience. Our lesson progression is skill based and emphasizes proper technique and safety. If you are unsure of where your child might fit best, please schedule an evaluation with one of our aquatic supervisors. Classes meet weekday afternoons/evenings and weekend mornings. Saturday and Sunday classes will be limited and based on whether there is sufficient staff to do so.

Class Levels: Tots: 9 mo-3 yrs. • Pre-School: 3-5 yrs. • School Age: 6-12 yrs. • Teen/Adult Classes: Ages 13 and over • Advanced Swimming Levels: 5-17 yrs. • Adaptive Aquatics: 3-12 yrs.

Not all levels may be offered due to staffing shortages.

The above fee are for thirty-minute classes, for specialty classes fees see our swim lesson schedule. Schedules are available at the Pavilion office or on our website at www.mltrec.com with specific class times the week prior to each session.

Safety Classes American Red Cross Lifeguarding Blended Learning format will be used: Provides entry-level participants the knowledge and skills to prevent, recognize and respond to aquatic emergencies and to provide care for breathing and cardiac emergencies, injuries and sudden illnesses until EMS personnel take over. American Red Cross Lifeguarding Review Lifeguarding review classes are designed to help you update your skills while also extending your certification for two years. This course will be a combination of classroom time and water skills practice. Participants must bring proof of current certification to the first class.

Junior Lifeguards Jr. Lifeguards will gain a wide variety of knowledge and experience that will include first aid skills, CPR, water rescue techniques, team work, responsibility and the importance of physical fitness. Each day campers will practice lifeguarding skills, team building and gain entry in the Recreation Swim.

All participants must be able to swim 100 yards of crawl stroke and tread water for 60 seconds.

American Red Cross Adult & Pediatric CPR/ AED/ First Aid Blended Learning: Through a combination of self-paced online learning and instructor-led classroom skill sessions, participants will have the opportunity to practice, participate, and demonstrate the same skills and knowledge as classroom based courses. The online portion, which features simulation learning, must be completed prior to attending the classroom skill session. Participants will be given or emailed instructions on how to access the online portion of the course.

The regular winter schedule will begin on January 3 and will run through April 1, 2022. Check our website for modified schedules during Edmonds School District Spring Break April 4-8, 2022. Due to a shortage of staff, the schedule below is tentative and may change as staff levels change. Children under Four Years old MUST be accompanied IN THE WATER by a responsible adult and must stay within arms reach for all swims. Safety will not be compromised.

Aquatic Boot Camp Aquatic Boot camp is an all-out class that focuses on core, muscle strength, muscle toning and cardio fitness. It is strongly encouraged that participants have water shoes and a water bottle for class.

Aqua Zumba® Aqua Zumba® blends the Zumba® formula and philosophy with traditional aqua fitness into a safe, challenging, waterbased workout that is cardio conditioning, body toning and exhilarating!

Deep Water Fitness A dynamic, total-body workout with no impact. Students use equipment for support and resistance. Must be comfortable in the deep water, but no swim skills are required.

Water Class Low Intensity Fitness Training is a program for people who are just starting a fitness program, anyone with joint and mobility issues, or anyone looking for a bit of a slower pace from our other classes. Pool Rentals Pool Rentals are great for Birthdays, Family Gathering, or Group Parties and Socials! Our warm water, indoor swimming pool is available for year-round fun! All rentals include tubes, mats, basketball hoop, water walk, noodles, water toys and lifejackets.

Pool parties are fun for all ages and swimming abilities. We have plenty of options! Rent half the pool or the full pool. Add-on our Lazy River, which winds you around with a light current for additional fun! An adult must accompany children under 4 years old in the water for all rentals.

Children are encouraged to explore using all their senses through developmentally appropriate individual and group activities in a safe, nurturing and fun environment. Activities include creative expression through art, movement, dramatic play and language opportunities, hands-on math and science experiences, craft projects, community field trips, and enhancement opportunities such as a weekly recreational swim. Classes begin September 8, 2021 (we are closed on Labor Day) and run through the week of June 13th. No classes held on non-school days in the Edmonds School District.

Registration requires a $35 non-refundable registration fee.

All participants must be able to dress themselves and be fully potty trained. We reserve the right to place children in the appropriate program based on age and/or developmental level. KIDS KREW & SCHOOL BREAK CAMPS

Kids Krew Kids Krew is a before and after school experience for children ages 5-12 years offering a unique combination of recreational and enrichment opportunities in a relaxed and caring environment. Programs take place at the Mountlake Terrace Pavilion, Mountlake Terrace Elementary and Madrona K-8 in Edmonds. They are all licensed through WA Department of Early Learning. Elementary schools served include Terrace Park, Madrona, and Mountlake Terrace Elementary. Kids Krew is offered on a monthly basis and follows the Edmonds School District calendar. Our excellent instructors provide a structured approach to dance, with emphasis on technique, creativity, and building self-esteem. Our yearly Dance Academy program is based on a full school years curriculum and begins with children who are 3.5 years of age as of Sept 1st 2021. Grab a drip coffee or some snacks after your swim or water fitness class. Pre-paid discount cards are available. Current hours are Monday through Friday, 6:00am-1:30pm.

• If paying by check, write check to City of Mountlake Terrace.

• Please register early, classes may be canceled if registration is insufficient.

• Returned check fee: $25 • Participation is voluntary and participants agree to assume responsibility for any injury or damage to person or property.

• Video tapes and photographs may be taken and used for publication.

Refunds • Full refunds will be given if classes are canceled by the Parks and Recreation Department.

• General Programs/Classes: Programs cancelled by the city will result in a prorated refund of program fees for classes not yet attended. No refunds are available for less than $5.00. Customer cancellations will incur a $10 processing fee per program/class. No refunds will be given if a program is cancelled due to emergency or weather for the first two cancelled days.
