8 SEPTEMBER 2025

Message from the Headmaster

The first full week of a new academic year is now complete, and the pupils have established their new routines. During the week, it was wonderful to welcome parents to our Senior Information Evening to share our success at GCSE and highlight the new Sixth Form facilities that were completed over the summer break. I know the presentations by our teaching staff helped inform parents about the structure and processes that are in place to provide excellent support to our pupils throughout this year.

I was fortunate to be able to join parents on Wednesday afternoon at U13 football sports fixtures. The light rain certainly did not dampen the spirit of our footballers as they displayed impressive skill and determination during competitive fixtures against the local opposition – a good sign of things to come over the season ahead.

Tomorrow, we look forward to another busy Open Morning at Cranmore. I know the Year 10 pupils are excited to lead tours with prospective parents and highlight the incredible facilities and wonderful opportunities that await future pupils. We are very proud to have them as ambassadors of the school. I would also like to thank our CPA in advance for their help and support with this important event.

Effingham Sixth Form – A Fantastic Start for Cranmore Students

The brand-new Effingham Sixth Form has opened its doors this term, and our Cranmore recent leavers have made a brilliant start to this exciting new chapter. Moving into a sixth form environment is always a big step, but the transition has been smooth, with students quickly finding their feet and thriving in their new surroundings.

The state-of-the-art facilities at Effingham Sixth Form are already proving to be a real highlight. From modern, purpose-built classrooms and inspiring study spaces to the welcoming common areas and excellent gym facilities, the Sixth Form offers everything our students need to excel both academically and personally.

Cranmore recent leavers have embraced the opportunities that come with joining the wider Effingham Schools Trust community. They are enjoying greater independence, forging new friendships, and benefiting from the expertise of dedicated sixth form tutors who are supporting them on their journey towards A-level success and beyond.

It has been particularly encouraging to see how well they have adapted to the new routines and expectations, taking full advantage of the resources available to them. With such a positive beginning, we are confident our students will continue to flourish at Effingham Sixth Form.

House Meetings

The first House Meetings of the term took place on Thursday. There was a sense of excitement and anticipation as the Houses set their goals for the year ahead.

A range of ice breaking activities enabled pupils to get to know each other better and build some in-house camaraderie. We look forward to an exciting term ahead.

Elevate Webinars

Please see the list of optional parent webinars from Elevate, the educational training organisation we use to help deliver study skills sessions to all our senior pupils. If you register for this, the sessions can be downloaded for later viewing if the live time is not convenient.

Last week, pre-season preparations took place with football training for Years 7 and 8, and rugby sessions for Years 9 to 11. This week saw the start of competitive fixtures, as our seven U13 football teams faced Downsend and Feltonfleet. Cranmore performed exceptionally well, securing victories in six of the matches.

We are fortunate at Cranmore to offer a diverse Games programme from Year 7 upwards, allowing pupils to choose between the core sport, rowing, or multi-sports. It’s fantastic to see all our sporting facilities back in full use and the school buzzing with activity.

Best of luck to our two U13 teams competing in the Parkside Football Tournament tomorrow we wish Cranmore the very best of luck!

A Message from our Chaplaincy Team

This Week

A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Mark

A few days later, when Jesus again entered Capernaum, the people heard that he had come home. They gathered in such large numbers that there was no room left, not even outside the door, and he preached the word to them. Some men came, bringing to him a paralysed man, carried by four of them.

Reflection

Our school value for this coming year is Compassion. To have eyes that are open to the needs of others is to have eyes open to Christ who dwells in our midst; especially amongst the poor. On Sunday 7th September, Blessed Carlo Acutis and Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati were canonised by Pope Leo. The Pope draws our attention to these two great young people who were driven to incredible acts of compassion by their love for Jesus. Let us likewise seek to open the eyes of our hearts and reach out to those in need this year.

Prayer

Loving and compassionate God,

We believe that you are present in this place and in our school. Help us throughout the year ahead to remain close to You. Help us to be the best that we can be and to work well with those around us. May we walk alongside others and may our hearts be compassionate to everyone we meet.

Amen

“May today there be peace within.

May you trust that you are exactly where you are meant to be.”
