Next week marks Values Week and I there are many events planned to allow the children to come together as a school community. One of the many groups serving that community is our School Council team. Our Lower Prep representatives gathered this week to share their bright ideas for improving our school and supporting other communities. Our representatives from the Upper Prep thought about how the government serves communities with a trip to London to visit the Houses of Parliament. They were wonderful ambassadors for our school and were complimented on their good manners and thoughtful suggestions.
Our sporting venues have seen a lot of action with water safety sessions happening in the pool, cricket galore on the grounds and tennis matches on our courts. Thanks must go to Mr Barson for organising our Year 5 cricket tournament which was well-received by our visitors, helping to support sport in the community.
The Young Musician Competition finals have been going on this week and we look forward to learning who the winners are soon. Thank you to everyone for their appreciation and support of this afternoon’s Proms in the Paddock. Once again, the children put on an amazing performance and it was brilliant to see so many families coming to join us.

School Council Visit to the Houses of Parliament
On Tuesday, the Upper Prep School Council battled with London traffic to visit the Houses of Parliament. They were given a tour of the building and were able to see Ed Miliband presenting his thoughts on energy.
They then took part in a workshop about how laws are created and debated various points. At the end, they were joined by Zöe Franklin, MP for Guildford, for a fascinating Q&A session.

STEM Workshops
On Wednesday, we welcomed Mr Williams from Digitall at Amazon Future Engineers. Year 5 pupils explored the natural hazards and how to design an early warning system, and address climate change throughout a handson, project-based coding session using BBC micro:bit.
Year 6 explored EcoCode, learning about the importance of future sustainable computing materials. Using BBC micro:bit devices, they programmed systems to test how spider silk is five times stronger than steel while being significantly lighter and more flexible.

Young Musician Finals
Congratulations to all those young musicians who were awarded a place in the Young Musician Finals this year. The Upper Prep finals have already taken place and so we now look forward to the Senior finals next week.
The winner of each final will be awarded a Supermerit or Distinction and invited to perform in an assembly in the final week of term.

Year 2 News
Year 2 thoroughly enjoyed launching our new topic all about 'Extreme Weather.' They learnt about blizzards. We shared a wonderful true story of a boy surviving an extreme blizzard in America. This stimulated a wonderful group activity, whereby they had to make a sledge that would carry all the groceries using straws, wooden sticks, masking tape and pipe cleaners. They then tested them out!
They also used masking tape to create these wonderful blizzard forest scenes and learnt to add fine details on to the trees, creating shadows.
The pupils also loved making their own friendship chains to represent community. We talked about how we link together as friends and how we work, help and play together.
We look forward to celebrating this at our Proms in the Paddock event this week and wearing them with pride!
Father’s Day Assembly
EYFS were delighted to host a Father’s Day Assembly to parents on Tuesday. The children excelled in their performance and made both the staff and audience very proud!
EYFS wish all the fathers at Cranmore a very happy Father’s Day on Sunday.
Mrs Prothero
On Saturday, 12 pupils represented Cranmore at the IAPS National Swimming Finals. This took place at the iconic venue, The London Aquatic Centre, Olympic Park. Swimmers participated in relay events with every team improving on their qualification times, including the U10 and U13s finishing in the top 10. We also had 5 pupils who qualified for an individual event, again all improving their qualification times. It was an amazing experience and opportunity for the team to swim in such an incredible venue. Well done all! (Year 5: Fabian H, Matthew B, Elijah D, Titus G; Year 6: Arlo W, Toby F, Oliver P, Jack T; Year 7: Sebastian W; Year 8: Henry C, Gus E, Edward W).
On Friday 6th June, Cranmore hosted the first ever Year 5 6-a-side cricket tournament. The wet weather cleared just in time and the sun made its first appearance of the week. Three matches took place one after another, whilst those not involved in the round showcased their skills in a six hitting competition. Cranmore hit a combined distance of 454 metres, Boxgrove 331 metres and Esher Church 407 metres. Fabian H won the six hitting competition with a huge 87 metre six! Well done to Esher Church who were crowned champions of the Cranmore Sixes 2025. Thank you to Will F and James C, both in Year 10 who scored and umpired expertly.
Also on Friday, we had 12 athletes represent Cranmore at the West Surrey Athletics event. There were many superb performances including a handful of podium finishes. Congratulations to Toby M finishing 2nd in the 1500m and Arlo W for winning the long jump. Arlo's performance now means he will represent West Surrey at the Nationals.
Congratulations to our U11 6-a-side cricket team who came runners-up at the Tonbridge Tournament.

On the last day and greatest day of the festival, Jesus stood there and cried out:
‘If any man is thirsty, let him come to me!
Reflection
This Friday we celebrate the Feast Day of St Antony of Padua.
Saint Antony was first of all an Augustinian monk, but he was so impressed by the martyrdom of five Franciscans who had been spreading the faith in Morocco that he became a Franciscan friar himself, so that he could preach the gospel in Africa too. Illness obliged him to leave Morocco, and a storm then drove his ship to Sicily, so that he found himself taking part in the General Chapter of the Franciscans in 1221, where he met Saint Francis of Assisi himself. His preaching career then took him to northern Italy and southern France, then a stronghold of the Albigensian heresy. Later he returned to Italy, to Padua, where he was an outstanding preacher and the first Franciscan theologian. His sermons are full of gentleness, but he reproved the wicked with fearless severity –especially backsliding clergy and the oppressors of the weak. His shrine is a centre of pilgrimage, and he is also the patron saint of the lost and found.
Prayer
Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful and kindle in us the fire of your love.
Send forth your Spirit and we shall be created, and you shall renew the face of the earth.
Amen
