Autumn Term
21 JUNE2021 Issue 1 : 4th September 2020
Dear Parents, It almost feels like a normal end of term - almost! It was a joy to welcome parents (at appropriate intervals!) to our Sports Day on Wednesday, and it was a delight to see so many pupils taking part, wearing their new house t-shirts. Congratulations go to St Benedict for winning the cup! There were some incredible displays of enviable athleticism, and quite a number of displays of stoicism - particularly on the fifth lap of the track of the 1500m. As usual, the girls did us proud. I would like to thank all the competitors for their enthusiasm, particularly during the closely-fought egg and spoon race, and to the staff who worked so hard to bring this about in such unusual circumstances. It really is a team effort (Mr Gill was in his element as race-starter, and we had various officials, timers, bellringers and scorers), but enormous gratitude to Miss Still, Miss Nelson, Miss Kay, Miss Gibson, Miss Elliott, Miss Jones and Miss Watson. We have even greater plans for next year! It was also such a pleasure to see Year 11 back up the hill for their Celebration Ball. Again, unusual circumstances forced us to rethink our approach, but it was exceptionally special to be able to have a ball, outside, in our beautiful school grounds. All members of Year 11 looked sensational in their dresses, jumpsuits and suits. Gary and his team served wonderful food, before the girls danced the night away to a number of ABBA's greatest hits. Many photographs were taken. Thank you to Mrs Uren and her elite team of form tutors for chaperoning this wonderful occasion. Tonight: the Year 13 Leavers' Ball! Finally, a brief reminder that Prize Giving will be live-streamed once again this year, unless your daughter is in Year 13, has won a prize, or is assisting with music. These girls are requested to attend in person. Year 13 parents are warmly invited to attend. Prize winners will be informed in good time. I do hope you have a lovely weekend. Best wishes, Dr Claire McShane
