Dear Parents We were delighted to welcome a large number of visitors to our Open Morning last week. Naturally, they appreciated having a tour of Cranmore and were very impressed with our children. We have enjoyed hosting our French visitors and we shall be sorry to say farewell this weekend.

Music has been a big theme this week with our Open House. This has been a great opportunity for parents to see all the marvellous work that goes on in the auditorium. Form 4 had a great time at Bushy Park whilst Forms 4 & 5 together participated in a local competition regarding the environmental challenge of plastic waste.

We are looking forward to Tuesday when we have our whole school photograph – quite a logistical challenge.

French Exchange The children are enjoying their second week at Cranmore and braving the very cold weather we have had! They have taken part in all our school activities, including the School Council meeting, shown below.

In Form One we have been busy in our science lessons, using the grounds to search for different types of leaves and planting our own seeds.

We collected a huge number of different leaves from the grounds and then sorted them into each type according to their shape and composition. We can't wait for our plants to start growing!

Form 4 Trip to Bushy Park A morning of heavy rain failed to dampen the spirits of Form 4 during their trip to Bushy Park Education Centre near Hampton Court. Organised by Cranmore’s Science Department, the visit gave the children a chance to study the biodiversity of the Royal Park. Highlights including catching a newt in one of the royal ponds, seeing fallow and red deer and simulating a bat tracking a moth using sonar.

Why Should We Ban Plastic Waste?

The 4th and 5th form have been looking at the problem of plastic waste and attempting to identify solutions, for the King’s College School Geography Competition. H MacNicol was the runner up in a strong field, made up of entries from numerous London and local prep schools. Congratulations to all for their efforts.

This week the children have been enjoying their science lessons with Mrs Woods. They listened really carefully for different sounds, some loud and some softer. They then made phones from paper-cups and string and went out into the garden to have a ’conversation’.

We have also been experimenting with different painting techniques, using vehicles to make tracks, blowing bubbles into paint pots, mixing powder paints and learning to use water colours. What fun!

Pre-Nursery children have been finding out about minibeasts and went out looking for some on their walks. They also noticed lots of beautiful blossom and numerals around the school grounds.

Theory of Music Exams – June 16th 9.45am Exam entry forms have now been sent to those Form 2 and 3 pupils who were successful in the recent assessment. These must be returned with the correct fee by Tuesday 8 May. Parents of other children in these year groups who would like their child to take this exam on the above date should contact Mr Harris immediately.
