Dear Parents Looking at this week’s Chronicle it is great to see that the children have returned from their Christmas break fit, refreshed and raring to go! Our older children gave their best performance to date on the rugby pitches, while our younger girls and boys enjoyed success in their U8 Tag rugby matches. Well done to all.

This week we welcomed specialist netball coaches to work with our older girls. They had a great session, demonstrating some wonderfully skilful play, which should bode well for the future.

Our 5th form had a fun morning in the pool learning how to scuba dive as part of their 5th & 6th form programme and some of our rowers went to the Boat Show. Our Chamber Strings group was invited to Charterhouse to perform some challenging pieces, which it seems the additional member of their music department thoroughly enjoyed too!

Our 50th Year activities continue with a photographic competition for children in the Senior Department and Mrs Trumble is inviting us to participate in World Book Day. As always, plenty is going on for all our children.

The January blues were well and truly banished on Saturday morning, as the U13 Rugby team produced their finest display of the season so far, winning their match against Feltonfleet 40 -10. With a host of fixtures being played on the Henderson Fields (U10, U11 and U12, U13) the atmosphere was fantastic and a strong crowd was treated to a great display of attacking rugby.

To their credit, Feltonfleet produced some great rugby and lost an influential player early on to a head injury. However, the Cranmore pupils played their style of rugby with a blend of self-belief, panache and grit.

A tough fixture programme awaits the squad, but spirts are high and we look forward to the challenge!

Music News

My congratulations to Cranmore Chamber Strings who performed brilliantly at the Charterhouse Prep Schools String Day. Alongside Lanesborough and Elstree Schools, our top string players played pieces by Handel, Clarke and other famous composers. Led by retiring Head of Strings, John Parsons, this was a challenging but very rewarding experience for all concerned. Besides the music, Rory the department dog was also a big hit!

On Wednesday 17th January, girls from Upper Prep and Form 1 had the privilege of a specialist Netball Coaching session on Cranmore’s MUGA. The coaching was delivered by Tallisa Haynes and Claire Yeoman from St. George’s. Tallisa is the Head Coach of the U21 Surrey Storm squad and is a member of the senior team herself, based at Surrey Sports Park. The children had a lot of fun during the afternoon as they learnt new skills to improve their game and showed outstanding enthusiasm.

This week the children in Bright Stars have been finding out about winter weather through a range of activities, creating table-top paintings in wintry colours and exploring ice in the water-tray. The role-play area has also been transformed into an igloo!

Nursery children have been learning about different shapes in their Number Groups and enjoyed making pictures using Tap-a-Shape resources. They were able to talk about the shapes they used to create their pictures.

Of course, we have continued to enjoy the winter weather outside. It just takes us a little longer to get dressed in our outdoor clothing!

We were very pleased to welcome many Bright Stars parents to our Early Years Coffee Morning in the Hospitality Suite. Thank you for coming!

Co-ed sport thriving at Cranmore!

Anyone who went to support the U8 Tag Rugby fixtures, on Friday 12th January at Danes Hill, was not only treated to some great competitive fixtures, but saw a great example of a thriving coeducational sports programme at Cranmore! All girls and boys in Form 1 combined to demonstrate the virtues of the sports programme here in the Junior School, playing some great attacking and defensive rugby, on a grey and damp afternoon. Cranmore lost only 1 of 8 fixtures; one score line read 18-18. With more tag rugby fixtures to follow, we look forward to the hockey season, which is soon approaching.

Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat Monday 22nd January 2018 4-5pm in C1 Forms 2-6 pupils are welcome to come along for an introduction to the 50th Anniversary, Senior Summer Production. We will introduce the performance, play some songs and if you would like to try for a solo part, you will be given a short extract of a song to learn for the following week:  Joseph = “Close Every Door”  Narrator= “Jacob and Sons”  Pharaoh: “Song of the King”  Reuben= “Those Canaan Days”  Simeon= “One More Angel”

Cranmore visits the Boat Show Cranmore rowers made their annual trip to the London Boat show at the weekend. Rockley Watersports, which runs our popular Summer Watersports holiday in France, ran a sailing taster session on the pool using giant fans for wind, which was exciting. We then visited the other stands to look at the boats and even had our photo taken in front of a replica of the FA cup!

Friday 2nd March!

World Book Day is coming! We are going to celebrate a little later than usual, on Friday 2nd March. All pupils are invited to

DRESS AS YOUR FAVOURITE BOOK CHARACTER FOR THE DAY! We are also going to hold a book collection on behalf of Delight, a charity working towards raising children's literacy levels in disadvantaged communities across Surrey. One of the ways they do this is through getting good quality books into the homes of children. It is a sad fact that 1 in 3 children do not own a single book of their own and the charity is aiming to change this, with your help.

‘Last year we were able to distribute over 8,300 books and support some 3,250 children and their families. This year we are hoping to better this and support even more children - and this is where we need your help!

It would be wonderful if your school were able to hold a book collection on our behalf. We know as children grow out of their books parents find it hard to give them a good home and appreciate knowing they will be loved by others.

We are looking for good quality preloved books suitable for children aged 3 - 11. All that we ask is that you hold a collection at your school.
