Reception enjoy their first trip to Forest School

13th September 2019 Dear Parents We have enjoyed a marvellous week and everyone is back into the routine of school life.

We had a wonderful celebration of Mass in our refurbished Auditorium yesterday to mark the beginning of the new academic year. We are looking forward to this evening when our Year 6 pupils shall be visiting St Teresa’s School for refreshments and a tour, hosted by their girls.

There are sporting activities over the weekend but one can see that the programme really gets going with lots of fixtures from Monday onwards.

Please encourage anyone interested in Cranmore for their child to come along to our Open Morning on 21st September.

Junior News It has been another busy week for our Reception class who have enjoyed their first trip to the Library and their first visit to Forest School!

Junior News In their PSHE lesson, each child in Year 1 created their own jigsaw piece about themselves for a piece of work called ‘We All Fit Together’.

Year 2 settling into their new classes

Junior News Year 2 have been learning about some of the first castles built in the ‘Motte and Bailey’ style and drew labelled diagrams of them.

Year 2 sorted different materials and described their properties. They also walked around the school and identified the different materials they found.

Senior News One of our pupils performed in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat at the Palladium!

This summer I was very fortunate to have been cast in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. I had 4 weeks of rehearsals before making my professional debut in front of a full house of 2500 people at the London Palladium. Over the course of the summer I performed in 4 shows a week, with two shows being in the vocal booth and 2 shows on stage. As this was the 50th Anniversary of Joseph, many of the adult parts had been re-written to be played by children. I had 3 parts in the show, a child, the Baker and the brother Zebulun. It was a fantastic experience that I thoroughly enjoyed!

Sports News Amsterdam U11s Football Tour The Amsterdam U11s football tour was a fantastic way to kick off the academic year of sport.

The trip included many activities for the children and the matches against local sides provided a great experience for the players. The pupils were a superb credit to the school, both on and off the field. The whole tour was faultless from the accommodation and food, to the matches and the enjoyable activities. A big thank you to Head of Football, Mr O’Neill for organising such an amazing tour.

A busy start to the term As you would expect, the new academic year has started off very busily. This has included internal matches across the school, after-school training and the start of our fixtures against other schools. On Tuesday, our U11s travelled to KCJS for their first football matches. There was some superb football on display and certainly some of the concepts we had worked on during the tour were in evidence. On Saturday morning, Cranleigh Prep hosted our U10s in a triangular, with Westbourne House also present. It was a great morning for the five Cranmore teams and it was brilliant to see so much Cranmore support on the side-lines. There is plenty more sport to come during the remainder of the week, including U8s hockey and football matches on Friday, plus on Sunday our ski squad are competing at the ESSKIA qualifiers in Southampton.

U11s internal matches

It is always wonderful to receive news about our former pupils. Will Barnicoat acted as the hare for the inaugural Cranmore Canter, following which he competed at the English Schools in the 3000m Inter Boys (U17) and won it!

From that, he was selected to run for England for the SIAB International in Swansea. He won that event, smashing his P.B. and breaking the Welsh record for the event which had stood since 1971. He is now looking ahead to the XC season and aiming to make it to the Europeans.

Notices Safeguarding and Child Protection at Cranmore Dear Parents

Cranmore recognises our moral and statutory responsibility to safeguard and promote the welfare of all pupils. We endeavour to provide an environment in which pupils feel safe, secure, valued, respected, and feel confident to talk if they are worried, believing they will be effectively listened to.

Everyone who comes into contact with children and their families has a role to play in safeguarding children. School staff are particularly important as they are in a position to identify concerns early and provide help for children, to prevent concerns from escalating. Schools and their staff form part of the wider safeguarding system for children working with social care, the police and health services to promote the welfare of children and protect them from harm.

Every school is required to have a Designated Safeguarding Lead or (DSL). Here at Cranmore, the DSL is Ms Schembri and the Deputy Designated Safeguarding Leads (DDSL) are Ms Luke (Assistant Head, Nursery) and Ms Gallop (Junior Department). The DSL has a legal duty and responsibility to follow the law as outlined in the school's 'Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy' (a copy is on the school website).

At times the DSL and DDSL may have to speak sensitively with parents and would be negligent in their role if they did not follow up on any potential safeguarding concerns identified. We have a duty to report any obvious or suspected cases of neglect or abuse to The Surrey Multi-Agency Safeguarding Hub (MASH).

Cranmore is part of the Operation Encompass scheme which runs jointly between schools, Surrey Police and Surrey County Council. Operation Encompass has been designed to provide early reporting on any domestic incidents that occur outside school which might have an impact on a child in school. Operation Encompass will ensure that the Designated Safeguarding Lead is informed the next morning that there has been a domestic incident. Through sharing this information the school can ensure that the child is supported in the most appropriate way during the school day.

Safeguarding children underpins the strong pastoral care at Cranmore, a community where each individual matters.

Notices CRANMORE PARENTS’ ASSOCIATION SPORTS CLUB

Would you like to keep fit, use the Cranmore sports facilities and have an enjoyable evening?

The Cranmore Parents’ Association Sports Club meets on Wednesday evenings from 7.30 to 9.15 p.m. for badminton and squash in the Sports Hall. There are also squash sessions on Tuesdays and tennis on the outdoor courts during the summer months.

Cranmore parents, members of staff, local players and their friends are all welcome. We are a friendly club of mixed standard. Fees are currently only £90 per annum.
