Dear Parents I was delighted to see our rugby teams play so well last Saturday over at Donhead to achieve a comfortable victory for the Dunckley Shield. Of course, later in the day I had the satisfaction of seeing Scotland contest a wonderful match against Ireland. Our rugby squads have been in action again throughout this week and we have enjoyed some further impressive results.

On Monday we hosted the IAPS swimming gala and it was marvellous to see nine schools in action here and demonstrate a high standard of competitive swimming.

Yesterday we enjoyed the House Music Competition and I must commend the pupils and staff for their hard work in preparing for these performances which were most entertaining.

Pastoral Talk – Emotional Wellbeing in Children Tuesday 21 February at 7.00pm Dear Parents, We are delighted to welcome Dick Moore, an inspirational and passionate speaker, to deliver a talk on Emotional Wellbeing in Children. He will speak to our 5th & 6th Form during the afternoon prior to speaking to parents in the evening.

Children’s mental health and emotional wellbeing is frequently in the news and here at Cranmore we want to do all we can to support children emotionally.

Dick has done a tremendous amount of work with children and young people and is passionate about the subject. He speaks from personal experience. He has been an English teacher, a rugby coach, a senior school housemaster and a prep school Headmaster.

Bright Stars have been very busy learning about Chinese New Year! We have made some dragons in box-craft and used paint to draw some lovely Chinese letters!

We also made some delicious spring rolls and cut and prepared the ingredients ourselves!

Xin nián kuài lè Form 2 and 3 have enjoyed their workshop during their Mandarin lesson with Miss Lee on Tuesday.

They have celebrated the year of the Rooster and were happy to bring home a little lantern and good luck goodies.

They listened to the Chinese new year legend with the mouse and the dragon and showed their skills using a chop stick with a chop stick race!

Last Friday we welcomed Serita Soloman, a GB hurdler, to our assembly. Serita is part of the Aspire to Greatness programme and was a real inspiration to us all, telling us about her career to date and her determination to carry on in spite of suffering some serious injuries along the way. Having won a bronze medal in the European Athletics Indoor Championship and represented England at the Commonwealth games, her next ambition is to qualify for the next Olympics. We wish her the very best of luck.

Rugby News Cranmore had a great day at the St. John’s Beaumont Festival this week. Three Cranmore teams were unbeaten with the U11 only losing one game. Congratulations to J Fortescue and J Morgan who were both named as players of the tournament.

Athle cs/Gym Half Term Camp Friday 17 February 2017 On Friday 17 February, we will be hosting a one day Athletics & Gym camp aimed at developing athletic ability combined with core strengthening skills. The courses are open to all children (including non-Cranmore pupils) and will be coached and led by Mr Neil Summers (ex-Royal Marine Commandos) & Mrs Fiona Summers (British Gymnast).

Course Content:Athletics: The course is designed to accommodate children of varying abilities from Lower Prep through to Form 6. It will have an emphasis on agility, speed and explosive power within body conditioning. This will allow the younger children to start to develop the fundamental levels required in many sports, as well as catering for more advanced children who wish to excel.

This will in turn assist them with physical skills required to excel in Rugby, Football and Cricket as well as Athletics and Gymnastics.

Whatever sports your child is involved in, this course will assist them to increase in speed, strength and agility.

Age: 4 – 13 years Dates: Friday 17 February 2017 Time: 10am – 3pm Cost: £40 per day Sibling discount: 10% off total fee for second & third child only.

Please arrive at the breakfast club door entrance (2nd door on the right opposite the main sports hall door entrance). Classes will be held in the indoor gym and on the tennis courts. Please arrive 5 minutes before the start time in appropriate sports clothing. Please bring your own lunch and refreshments (no nuts please).
