Prep School News Prep School Open Book Mornings This term we are holding Open Book Mornings for each Year Group. This is an opportunity for your daughters to show you their books and their classrooms. Refreshments will be served in the Henderson Hall from 8.15am and, once the girls are settled, you will be taken to the classroom from 8.30am until 9.00am.

Please see the final date below for Year 6. You will be sent an online form to confirm your attendance nearer the time.

Prep School News Children’s Mental Health Week.

Children's Mental Health Week is a mental health awareness week that empowers, equips and gives a voice to all children and young people in the UK . The theme of the week is "My Voice Matters" and we have encouraged pupils to connect with others in healthy, rewarding, and meaningful way.

Golden Book Well done to all of the girls in our Golden Books this week: 3RN Molly W for her descriptive piece of writing about the eruption of Mount Vesuvius as a diary entry. Well done, Molly, you used all the features especially the use of emotion!

Olivia H for her excellent effort after returning to school, catching up with all her work and writing a fantastic diary entry on Escape from Pompeii, well done Olivia!

3KC Isabelle C for starting to apply her methods in problem solving in maths this week and for great measuring with metres, centimetres and millimetres. Well done Isabelle!

Ellie F for fabulous enthusiasm in science this week when finding out about the different layers of soil and trying hard with the new scientific language. Well done Ellie.

Year 3 & 4 — Eco & Gardening Club In Eco and Gardening Club this half term, the girls have been finding out about Bug Hotels and designing one. They have thought about the materials needed, the places it could be placed within the school grounds and designing their own including labelling each detail and thinking of a humorous or alliterative name.

After half term, the girls will be starting to build it using materials found on the school grounds as well as with materials from Al, the gardener and Mrs Haymes, the Forest School Co-ordinator. If your daughter would like to bring in any broken and eco friendly items to be added to the Bug Hotel please could they bring these in on the first Monday back after half term. Thank you to everyone who has helped with this project so far.

4CR—1066 Topic As part of their topic 1066, Year 4 have been studying the Bayeaux Tapestry. After learning about the Battle of Hastings and events that followed, including the creation of the Domesday Book, they chose a section of the embroidery to sketch

Year 6—Visitor

Book Week, 4th – 8th March

Year 6 were very excited to welcome Mrs Clark back into school this week as part of our topic, 'A Child's War'. She told the girls stories about her family's evacuation experiences during the war and answered lots of questions from both the girls and the staff!

M.G. Leonard will be visiting us on the 5th March. She will be leading a whole-school assembly, followed by interactive presentations for Year 3 and Year 4 and creative writing workshops for Year 5 and Year 6.

If you would like to purchase one of M.G. Leonard’s books, at a cost of £7, for your daughter to receive during book week, please complete this form by the 17th February.

Partnership event at St Teresa's - Year 5 French breakfast The Year 5 from Ste Thérèse and Cranmore met in a French café set up to share a traditional French breakfast.

They savoured a tartine, a slice of baguette with butter or jam, some viennoiseries: a croissant and a pain au chocolat, an orange juice and some hot chocolate. Many of them sampled the delight of dunking their bread in their hot chocolate bowl as it makes it so much tastier. They also enjoyed being able to communicate in French.

Year 5—Tudor Topic As part of their Tudor topic, Year 5 were asked to research some authentic recipes from the time and have a go at making them. Some were delicious, lots were full of sugar, and a few will not be made again!

Year 6—Art Year 6 undertook some subtractive drawing in their art lessons, in readiness for using the same technique to carve sculptures from soap. First of all, they covered their page in a mid-tone, using graphite sticks, and then drew into the page using putty rubbers. The girls were tasked with recording Henry Moore sculptures, observing the lights and darks carefully. This will inform their own ideas for sculpting the soap, and also help to replicate the feeling of reducing the material in order to leave a form. They rose to this technical challenge brilliantly, and there are some wonderful 3D drawings.

Sports News Hockey—The U8s travelled away to Surbiton Hockey Club to take on Twickenham Prep School in some exciting hockey fixtures.

U8As had a cracking fixture. They improved as the game went on and played some great patterns. They won 4-0 and should be proud of their performance. Player of the match went to Olivia.

U8Bs had a close affair, but the St T's girls came out victorious with a close 3-2 scoreline. We had superb tackling and attacking from both sides; a really fun and valuable game for the girls, well done! Player of the match was Arabella N - well done!

U8Cs match was an exciting one, that was end to end. They didn’t quite come away with a win, but the girls worked hard, tackled well and had so much fun. Player of the match went to Ivy. U8Ds had a wonderful fixture and thoroughly enjoyed getting out for some hockey.

They ended up winning 4-2, which is incredible. Isobel C was voted a worthy player of the match, so a massive well done to her and the team for their effort.

Netball—The U10 interhouse netball was thrilling! All the girls had a wonderful time, scored some terrific team goals and received lots of merits for their work rate and performances.

Netball—What an EPIC day the U11A netball team had on Monday 5th February at IAPS netball.

The girls were ready and raring to take on their competition. When playing the girls showed some great skill level! There were many interceptions throughout the matches and the movement on court was great. We need to all continue to work on our shooting as we missed a few opportunities. In the first round, the girls won 2 out of 4 matches which meant they got through to the plate competition. Unfortunately we didn't get the win this time!

Well done girls on this great achievement, they should be super proud.

The U11 A-F teams travelled to Holy Cross School to play in a tournament.

The girls had a great afternoon demonstrating their different skills they have learnt so far this academic year.

The teams placed as followed: A Team 4th, B Team 4th, C Team 6th, D Team 5th, E Team 3rd and F team 4th.

Swimming— St Teresa’s hosted Notre Dame for a swim meet on 1st February. Both teams gave it their all throughout the meet with some very close races and some great improvements for the reverse fixture late last year. Overall, Notre Dame won, but standout performances came from the U9 A-Team which narrowly won by a point and the U10 team which also won narrowly by 2 points. Well done to everyone – we look forward to the next prep swimming meet in late February.

Year 5, 6, 7 and 8 are invited to 5 rugby taster sessions which will run every Monday after school for this half term! The sessions will be delivered by Harlequins foundation coaches and will take place on the field. Please speak with Miss Collins if you have any questions, no equipment required.

Half Term Tennis Camps at ESTA ESTA is excited to be running 2 days of tennis camps at St Teresa’s during the half term break!

On Monday 12th and Tuesday 13th February, we will be offering the following sessions: 9-12pm Years 2-4 9-12pm Senior Performance Training (invitational) 1-4pm Years 5&6 1-4pm Years 7-11 Each camp session is priced at £39 per player per day. Camps are open to boys and girls across the Trust as well as external players.

Topic of the week: Eventing There are many different disciplines in horse riding, one of them is Eventing. Eventing includes three different disciplines: Dressage, Cross Country, and Show Jumping. Competitions can take place as One Day Events where each phase is performed on the same day, or as Three Day Events.

Eventing was originally created as a Cavalry test but later on became more and more popular across the equestrian community. ~ Libby C

This Week One of the joys of the school’s location is the presence of flocks of sheep, particularly at those times when there are lambs in the field. You can often hear the ewes and lambs calling to each other long before you can see them.

It is no surprise that Jesus used the image of sheet in so much of his teaching.

Sheep will often group together. Once they are on the move, they stay close to each other. It makes it easier for the shepherd to direct and guard over the sheep. The people of Jesus’ time would have known this.

But Jesus says an extraordinary thing. Having told his followers that He is the Good Shepherd, he goes on to ask them ‘what shepherd, with one hundred sheep, when one sheep goes missing, would leave the 99 and go off to find the missing sheep?’ Your average shepherd would recognise that this sometimes happens, sheep do get lost.

But not Jesus! As the Good Shepherd, he will go out of his way, putting himself in danger, to seek out the lost sheep and to bring it lovingly back to the fold.

Next week, we begin the season of Lent when we begin our great preparations for Easter. It is a time for us to recognise those times in our lives where we have gone astray, just like that lost sheep. We need to remember that Lent is not just a time for us to make a change. It is also the time when we are called to be alert to the Good Shepherd who is seeking to bring us back into the loving embrace of his fold.
