Message from Mrs Conrad Our first sports fixtures took place this week with girls in Year 4 to 6 playing cricket against Downsend and Hawthorns. How brilliant to be playing competitive sport once again!

Our first trip took place on Thursday with Year 5 going to High Ashurst as part of their Activities Week. Much fun was had by all as the girls (and the teachers!) overcame fears and pushed themselves out of their comfort zones, climbing to dizzy heights and leaping on to trapezes!

This morning, our Year 6 Ukulele Club performed for the first time in assembly accompanying us as we sang “Happy Birthday” to all those in our school family celebrating birthdays this week. I wonder if this might even be a national first as there can’t be many schools that can boast a ukulele club!

Great Work!

Year 2—Bounce Year 2 made a great start to their new topic, 'Bounce'. The girls enjoyed making their own bouncy balls following instructions from a kit. They planned and carried out an investigation to find out which ball was the bounciest and used iPads to take digital photographs of balls in motion - what a busy few days!

Year 3—Tremors As part of our Tremors topic, we have been looking at the activity of tectonic plates. The girls peeled a satsuma carefully and then tried to put the satsuma’s skin back together. This gave them an understanding of how the tectonic plates have changed the earth’s surface over time.

First Aid Course During the Easter holidays, Beth in Year 5 took part in some First Aid training. She learnt about CPR, the recovery position and defibrillators amongst other things, and asked lots of questions. Well done Beth, what a great achievement—you’ll be able to help Mrs Jones and Mrs Nelson out in the School Office!

Year 1—Earth Art Last week, Year 1 shared some photos of their Earth Art in the bulletin and had the chance to show off their beautiful painted rocks. This week, we turned from rocks to twigs to channel our creativity. The girls thought about sculptures and what they are and how we could make our very own. We used plasticine, twigs, and wool to create our own Earth sculptures. There were all sorts of creations from flowers to chairs to dogs! Have a look at some of the girls’ creations.

Year 4—Chess Club The Year 4 girls battled it out in Chess Club this week. They are improving every week, mastering new skills and strategies.

Year 6—Poetry Club In Prep Poetry Club this week, the girls watched Michael Rosen performing a couple of his poems and discussed what makes a good performance poem. They then practised and performed their own.

Year 5—Science As an introduction to minibeasts, the Year 5 girls looked under logs, rocks and plants to see what lived in the micro habitats. They were able to find and document many creatures living in the St Teresa's grounds.

Helping Hands Club Helping Hands club have been hard at work researching causes that are close to our hearts and deciding how we can help. Some of us are researching the rainforest and how to raise awareness in our school community about endangered animals . We're also looking at our school grounds and how we can help local wildlife such as hedgehogs. The girls have some amazing ideas - Watch this space!

Sports News Well done to the Year 4, 5 and 6 girls who played in their first cricket match this week.

The girls thoroughly enjoyed the match and learnt a lot along the way.

Miss Rippington and Mrs Rowcliffe look forward to seeing them progress throughout the term.

Music Exams Well done to the following girls who played beautifully when recording their piano exams today – Sophia Y, Arabella C, Caitlin W and Daniella C and Briony L on her violin.

Instrumental Lessons Please note that the cost of instrumental lessons will rise in September. In line with the Senior School, this will be £217.50 for a set of 10 half hour lessons.

Year 5—Activities!

This Week In Chapel this week we recalled one of the most memorable of the Resurrection appearances of Jesus on the Road to Emmaus (Luke 24:13-35). We were encouraged to enter into the account and to take the place of the unnamed disciple.

We can only speculate why the two disciples were fleeing Jerusalem - disappointment, anxiety and fear seem the most likely. Just like us, when the going gets tough, rather than ‘get going’, we run in the very opposite direction.

They explain to the mysterious traveller who joins them on the journey, that all of their hopes and dreams had been shattered with the crucifixion of Jesus. It was as if all their expectations had died on the cross with Jesus.

The only glimmer of hope is to be found in disturbing rumours of ‘empty tombs’, ‘blinding lights’ and talk of resurrection - as puzzling a concept two thousand years ago as it is today. Ironically, they ask, ‘Are you the only person who does not know what has been going on?’ when in reality, they stand in the presence of the one person who really does know what has been happening, and who, with good humour, gentleness and persistence, removes the veil from their eyes.

And finally, having travelled through the fog of doubt, they come to that moment of realisation when their companion (literally meaning, ‘the one who shares break’ with them) removes their fear and fills them with the fire of faith that compels them to return to Jerusalem and share the good news of their experience of the resurrection with their sisters and brothers. May we be like them and recognise Jesus, our companion, in every step of our journey through life.

Happy end of the 2nd week!

Our dates for the Pony Days in the Half Term are below. Bookings are to be made directly on to the online bookings system.

Some sessions are restricted to 3 riders max, the others 4. This is to help us manage the horses workload.

With the system, our cancellation policy has changed slightly, we still require 48hrs notice of a cancellation for the lesson to be credited but we no longer require a reason for a catch-up lesson to be owed.

May Half Term Pony Days Pony Mornings and Afternoons are priced at £50 per session, and are running on: Monday 31st May, Tuesday 1st June, Wednesday 2nd June, Thursday 3rd June and Friday 4th June.

Mornings run from 9.30am to 12.30pm, and Afternoons run from 1pm to 4pm.

Bookings will need to be made directly on the bookings system.

Please bring your own hat and boots to ride in as we are not lending out equipment until it is deemed safe to do so.

Inde W will be completing a sponsored walk on the 3rd May for Bob Champion Cancer Trust.

She has a Just Giving page up and would be grateful for any donations.

NSEA Reports The next NSEA outing is an Eventers Challenge at Coombelands on Monday 3rd May. Good luck to the teams who are going!
