Message from Mrs Conrad Just before the holiday, I was delighted to attend the FOST Valentine’s Dance which was extremely well attended with 90 families enjoying the dancing, games and photo booth fun! Huge thanks to Mrs Whipple and the FOST Team for master minding this event and to all the dance partners who were such great sports – I have never seen such enthusiastic limbo dancing!

This week, St Teresa’s has begun the half term with phenomenal sporting success with all the Year 5 and 6 swimming relay teams winning their races at the IAPS regional qualifiers. Well done to all those girls who took part.

Tomorrow, we have 11 girls representing the school at the Modern Biathlon Championships in Bath and we look forward to hearing how they get on. We wish all our competitors the best of luck!

Year 5—Osmington Bay Information Evening We are holding an information evening for the Year 5 trip to Osmington Bay on Wednesday 9th March at 4.30pm in 5MK. All Year 5 parents are welcome.

Prep School Open Book Mornings We will be holding Open Book Mornings for each Year Group over the next few months. This is an opportunity for your daughters to show you their books in their classrooms. Refreshments will be served in the Henderson Hall after drop–off and, once the girls are settled, you will be taken to the classroom to look at their books from 8.30am until 9.00am.

This Week In The Prep School Primary Maths Challenge In the Autumn Term, a group of girls across Years 5 and 6 took part in the Primary Mathematics Challenge. As part of the competition, they had to answer some very tricky Maths questions where they had to apply knowledge from different areas to solve a range of complex problems, some with several steps. Well done to all of the girls that took part.

Collaborative Art In collaboration with Cherry Trees UK, girls in Years 3 & 4 created a woodland scene on canvas to be displayed in the play area at Cherry Trees. The girls chose a bird or woodland animal and were encouraged to represent it using a wide range of medium. The children from Cherry Trees made hand prints to represent the leaves in this joint endeavour. The scene contains the four seasons, with spring represented by the colour green, through to winter in blue.

Poetry and Literature Club In Poetry and Literature Club we studied the poem, 'My Longest Journey' which described a negative view of winter using figurative language. The girls then used the same style to write their own poems, but this time with a positive view of winter.

Year 4 Art and Photography Club This week, the Year 4 Art and Photography Club decided to do something a little bit special. Moving on from selfportraits and Valentine's day creations last half term, we decided to explore animals, but not just any animals...HORSES! The girls and Miss B took a trip up to the Equestrian Centre during their club for some quality time with some of St T's favourite residents. Mouse was a popular choice with the girls, which will come as no surprise with those devilish good looks! Handsome new addition Red was also in demand for a photo shoot. The lovely ladies at the Centre chatted to us about the horses, as well as letting us photograph and pet them.

Hopefully, we will get the chance to go back again soon. We are really looking forward to putting pencil to sketchbook next week and drawing some of our beloved four-legged friends!

Year 2 Science The girls in Year 2 worked together to design and make waterproof, floating pirate ships before testing them on water. Even though the designs were all so different - many with hidden treasure - they all floated successfully!

Pandora's Boxes The children in Year 3 were very excited about the Pandora’s Box project we set for homework. They all completed the project very well coming up with some ingenious designs and superb explanations for why they had included various items into their boxes. It was lovely seeing the girls sharing their Pandora's Boxes with their classes so confidently and enthusiastically. Well done girls!

Road Trip USA Year 4 launched their new topic 'Road Trip USA' with an exciting scavenger hunt to locate a selection of USA states. They had to solve clues and find out where they had been carefully placed around the school.

Once collected, they then learnt further facts about the different states and used these to answer some tricky geographical questions.

Music News Musicians of the Week Congratulations to the following girls who have been awarded certificates this week: Cecily P in Year 2 for improved concentration and contribution to music lessons.

Arabella H in Year 3 for consistent effort and contribution in music.

Lyla S in Year 4 for good ukulele playing in class.

Natalia O in Year 5 for making a very good contribution to Chamber Choir rehearsal this week.

Izzy S in Year 6 for making a very good contribution to Chamber Choir rehearsal this week.

Music class of the week – Year 5HC

Celebration Assembly Performance Well done to Poppy M in Year 6. Poppy gave a wonderful trumpet performance of “Jupiter” by the English composer Gustav Holst in today’s assembly.

Look out for next week’s performance from some Senior School music scholars.

ABRSM Music Exams These will take place on Tuesday 15th March in school. Exact timings will be notified nearer the time.

Easter Music Course 2022!

This year’s course will take place from Monday 11th to Thursday 14th April. This will be the 10th anniversary of this course at school directed by Mrs Yalden. The course is open to girls and boys from all schools in Years 3- 6 who have passed Grade 1 on their instrument.

Sport News Netball On Friday 11th February, the U9 netball teams played against Reigate St Mary’s. The girls did really well and the B and D teams won. Well done to all the girls that played.

On Tuesday 22nd February, the U11B,C & D netball teams played against St George’s. Well done to the D team who won. The players of the match were Ella J-B, Hermione, and Nyang’ara.

Good luck to the U10A netball team who are playing in a tournament on Saturday at St George’s.

Football On Wednesday 23rd February, the U10A-C football teams travelled to Hawthorns to play against Hawthorns and Reigate St Mary’s. We had some fantastic results and the girls played really well!

The A team won against Reigate St Mary’s, player of the match was Kaiah.

The B team won against Hawthorns, player of the match was Natalia.

The C team won against Hawthorns and Reigate St Mary’s, the players of the match were Georgia and Coey. We look forward to more football fixtures in the future!

IAPS Well done to all the girls that swam in the IAPS competition on Thursday, all the girls worked really hard and we look forward to sharing the full results with you very soon.

This Week This week we marked the Feast Day of one of our four House Saints—St Benedict of Nursia. Born in 1480, Benedict is the oldest of our House Patron Saints and had a huge influence on all the others. He had hoped for a quiet, life as a hermit, but his reputation spread and it was not long before a community had formed around him. People were attracted to Benedict’s life style that took seriously the command of scripture to ‘pray at all times with all kinds of prayers’ (Ephesians 6:18). Benedict’s approach was to both spend time in prayer, particularly the Psalms, while also continuing about daily work in a prayerful manner.

Following earlier approaches he divided the day - and the night! - into periods of prayer and periods of work, and his moto became ‘Ora et Labora—Pray and Work.’

As his community grew, he developed a guide for those who lived in his growing communities. This guide, known as The Rule of St Benedict, continues to be used by Benedictine communities across the world to this day. In his Rule, Benedict provides guidance and expectations for the life of the community, including the particular expectation for each member of the community—the Abbot, the Prior, etc. Finally he gives great emphasis to the role of Porter. The Porter’s role was a difficult one.

They were expected the remain at the door, again, day and night, to be ready to welcome visitors to the monastery.

The rule is clear - all visitors are to be welcomed ‘as if they were Christ himself.’

As we reflect on the life of St Benedict and what he has to teach us today, perhaps we can take this advice for the Porter. We know that our own St Thérèse, in her Little Way, reminds us to respond with love to the opportunities that come before us each day. What a world it would be if our response to everyone we meet along the journey of life were to be the same as the response we would give to Christ himself!

We hope that you all have had a lovely half term!

Red and Bobby, who if you haven’t met them yet arrived on Saturday 5th February, are now stabled in the barn. They are very friendly and you are welcome to say hello to them!

We hope that Red and Bobby will become new riding school additions, but before they can be used in lessons they need to gain some fitness (in the case of Bobby!) and are being ridden by our amazing staff in the meantime.

Please make sure that coats are brought up to ride, even if you don’t end up wearing them! The weather is very unpredictable at the moment, and while we do have some showerproof coats for you to borrow, it is best to bring your own just in case!

Please also make sure that all riders turn up with time to spare before their lessons! This will give you time to get your horse ready and out to the arena. We will also ensure that instructors and yard staff help you get ready so that you can make the most of your riding lesson on the horse!

Easter Pony Days The Easter dates have already been sent out and published, and are available to book on the system. We do have some spaces left, so book now to avoid disappointment!

If you would like to be added to the waitlist in case of a cancellation, then please email the office or there is an update on the system where you will be emailed automatically if a space becomes available.

NSEA Competition Reports

There are more NSEA competitions coming up as the competitions pick up for this year.

We have some teams and individuals heading out for both NSEA and BSJA Just for Schools in the half term.
