Autumn Term

Message from Mrs Conrad Today is the Feast of St Therese of Lisieux, the saint our school is named after, so I would like to wish you all a very happy Feast Day! To celebrate this wonderful occasion, we began the morning with a beautiful Mass in the Mairlot Hall followed by an aptly festive snack of delicious homemade chocolate muffins as well as a special cake made and decorated by Gary and his team. As a treat, the girls then enjoyed African drumming workshops throughout the day so the school has been echoing with exciting, energetic rhythms which have had all our toes tapping!

St Therese is known for her ‘Little Way’ where she encourages us all to do ‘Little things with great love’. To share a friendly smile or a kindly word can really make a difference to those around us and if everyone were to do this, wouldn’t the world be a better place!

Parents’ Evenings — 13th & 14th October 2021 Formal parents’ meetings for the Prep School will take place virtually on Wednesday 13th and Thursday 14th October from 4.30pm until 7pm. A letter has now been sent out with further information, including booking details.

Message for Year 6 Parents Please may I remind Year 6 parents to complete and return the Registration Form to Mrs Charles by Friday 15th October 2021 so that your daughters can be given priority entry into the Senior School and, be sent the formal offer letters after half-term.

Harvest Celebration The Prep School are having two special Harvest celebrations on Friday 8th October in the Henderson Hall.

Parents of children in Years 2 & 3 are invited to join us at 8.30am.

After School Care Collection Please note that the latest collection time from After School Care is at 6.00pm.

Winter Uniform All the girls should return to school after half term in their winter uniform.

Clubs, Study and After School Care—w/c 11th October •

Due to Parents’ Evening, no after school clubs will run on Wednesday or Thursday after school, apart from Tennis, LAMDA, Equestrian and After School Care. Netball and Hockey Club will run, but will finish at 4.30pm.

There will be no Study for Years 3 to 6 on Wednesday or Thursday, however, After School Care will run from 15.45 until 18.00 for all year groups.

This Week in the Prep School Year 5—Mummification As part of their Pharaohs topic, Year 5 wrote a clear and amusing set of instructions on how to mummify a body in preparation for the Afterlife. In groups they then used their instructions to role play the process of mummification!

Year 2—Grandparents Day To commemorate National Grandparents' Day on Sunday 3rd October, the girls in Year 2 worked hard in Forest School to make coasters using natural wood slices. We are sure that the grandparents will be delighted with their special gift.

Eco and Gardening Club This week, the girls planted two types of potatoes called Desiree and Sharpe's Express. They dug several trenches and planted the potato plants roughly 20cm apart.

We are hoping to harvest them before Christmas. Also, the girls continued to design their Eco logos which are starting to look amazing!

Year 3—Stone Age Topic This week in our Stone Age topic, Year 3 have been archeologists for the day and took part in an archeological dig!

We used special tools to find and discover different artefacts from the stone age. Using magnifying glasses, our previous knowledge and each other we discussed what the artefacts could be and what they would have been used for. We were surprised by some of the answers! In Art this week we used natural materials mixed together to create different colour paints like the stone age people. We used flour, chalk, charcoal, berries, and spices to create mixtures for our cave painting. The classroom smelt wonderful!

Year 4—RE In RE this week, Year 4 have been thinking about the different people in Jesus' family tree and what we know about them. We focused this week on Joseph. Of course, our knowledge began with the Nativity! From there, the girls enjoyed sharing knowledge and opinions based on what they know and feel about Joseph the carpenter. They designed beautiful stained glass windows as a tribute to Joseph's life and character.

Sports News I am thrilled to see so many girls enjoying sport, with a weekly increase of girls attending sports clubs. As the weather starts to get colder, please can parents ensure their children wear their skins or tracksuits with their skort, especially for morning clubs. Children are also allowed to wear appropriate hats and sports gloves for clubs too.

Swimming The St Teresa’s swim squad girls enjoyed their first gala this week against St Hilary’s. They all swam their best and were victorious winning 133-117. Captain and vice-captain were Sophia and Alice.

Netball Year 5 had their first netball match against Manor House. They showed superb teamwork and came away with two wins. The final scores were 6-1 and 9-0. Players of the matches were: As—Alex and India Rose for moving to defence and getting so many interceptions. Bs—Harriet for shooting.

A special mention to the captains (Liliana and Alex) for excellent organisation and leadership.

PE star class of the week for enthusiasm goes to 6LD. PE athletes of the week for effort and enthusiasm in lessons: Year 2: Thea Year 3: Zara Year 4: Maysie Year 5: Ella J Year 6: Sofie S

Outside Achievements Apollonia in Year 3 competed in the Snowsport South U8 Skiing competition. Apollonia did really well and placed 3rd!

Apollonia also played for the Effingham and Leatherhead Eagles on Sunday in the Guildford Rugby Festival. She won a medal for participating but also won player of the match for one of her games! She scored 8 tries over four games, and was the only girl in her team. Well done Apollonia!

Poppy in Year 5 competed in her first official timed gala at the weekend; Leatherhead age group championships. She came away a gold in back stroke 50m.

Thursday 7th October: U9 hockey tournament @ Hawthorns. 2pm start. Pick up 4pm from Hawthorns or 5pm from St Teresa’s.

U9A-C hockey v Reigate St Mary’s @ St Teresa’s. 3.40pm start. Pick up 4.30pm.

Saturday 9th October:

U10+U11 netball tournament @ St Teresa’s. 8.30am and 10.30am start.

Feast Day We celebrated our Feast Day today with a Whole School Mass, a drumming workshop for all the girls and a special chocolate treat at break time.

A reminder to our riders to bring jumpers and coats as the weather gets colder and wetter as we head towards winter.

We are running another After School Club on Tuesdays at 4pm to 5pm for Prep students and have one space left. The club allows students to learn how to care for a pony and topics such as parts of the horse, feeding, grooming and more! If you would like to book on, please contact the office.

NSEA Competition Reports

We had some NSEA teams head out to compete at Felbridge on the 25th September for the Show Jumping Qualifiers.

On the Saturday, we had a team ride in the 70cm class and a team in the 80cm class. In the 70cm, the team - Chloe B, Inde W, Lottie B and Lulu S - came 4th overall with one clear and three four faults!

In the 80cm, the team - Ava-Mae G, Chloe B, Inde W and Lulu S - came 6th overall with two clear rounds, one four faults and one 12 faults!

In the 90cm class, we had Ava-Mae G as an individual who did well and cleared the course with just four faults.
