Message from Mrs Conrad This month we have been remembering all those we love who have died. In particular, on Thursday, we remembered all those who have died and given their lives in times of war and conflict. Huge thanks to 6LD for leading our Remembrance Assembly in such a beautifully moving and thought provoking way. Eternal rest give unto them O Lord. May they rest in peace.

Year 6 Class Assembly Yesterday morning, 6LD led a Remembrance Day assembly, to remember all the brave people who died in the First and Second World wars, as well as those who have been killed or injured in more recent wars and conflicts. WE WILL ALWAYS REMEMBER. WE WILL NEVER FORGET. 6LD girls reminded us that in some parts of the world, there are still innocent people living in war-affected countries.

They also reminded us that we can all make a difference to the world and that it does not have to be something extraordinary. It just needs to be something you do with the intention of doing good: smile at people, it will make them happy. Be kind. Be more loving. Say I love you more. Be honest. Be fair. Be forgiving. Be positive.

Be thoughtful. Be tolerant towards each other. Fight against racism and prejudice. Learn to sort out problems with words and understanding. Respect each other. Respect our planet.

Year 4 Science It has been a busy week in Science for Year 4! The girls have begun a new topic on digestion and started by examining teeth. They used mini marshmallows to create models of teeth, labelling the different types and even moulding them to look more accurate. Later in the week, they set up an experiment to see the effect of different liquids on teeth enamel using eggs as the model. We wait excitedly to see what the results are and will keep you posted...

This Week in The Prep School Year 4—Biographies In Year 4 this week, the girls have worked on writing biographies about Jacques Cousteau. You can see their hard work reflected in the images below. They focused on the features and structure of a biography and combined this with their own knowledge and research to create well written informative pieces of writing.

Year 3 Computing During Computing in Year 3, the girls have started to experiment with Stop Motion. They have created movies by making a piece of plasticine move across the screen using tiny movements. This was to ensure that they created a movie with nice smooth movements. There were some wonderful imaginative ideas (including worms!) and the girls were brilliant at giving each other advice to improve their movies further..

Chess Club This week, many of the girls tried to include the 'castling' manoeuvre in their game, as an extra strategy to keep their king out of harms way!

Eco & Gardening Club During Eco and Gardening Club, the children made ephemeral art in the style of Andy Goldsworthy. They collected various items from the school grounds such as leaves, pine cones, stones and pine needles. Afterwards, they made their own pictures using what they had found on a vibrant background.

Music News Musicians of the Week Congratulations to the following girls who have been awarded certificates this week: Amelia H in Year 2 for good singing in class.

Olivia G in Year 3 for very singing and concentration in class.

Molly C in Year 4 for identifying the clarinet by sound.

Clara DA in Year 5 for making a very good start with her oboe playing.

Poppy M in Year 6 for her playing of the Last Post in her class assembly.

Class of the Week This week’s music class of the week is 6LD. They will keep the trophy in their classroom and return it to Celebration Assembly next Friday.

Chamber Choir Please note that the carol singing event publicised at Hatchlands for Saturday 11th December does not involve the Chamber Choir. Mrs Yalden’s Senior School choir will be performing.

Easter Music Course 2022!

Next year’s course will take place from Monday 11th to Thursday 14th April. This will be the 10th anniversary of this course at school directed by Mrs Yalden. The course is open to girls and boys from Year 3-Year 6 from all schools who have passed Grade 1 on their instrument. Please email Mrs Yalden on c.yalden@st-teresas.com for further information.

This Week We joined together for our annual Service of Remembrance on Thursday as we once again remembered the signing of the Armistice to end the First World War and to remember all those who have died in that and the many subsequent wars that have so disfigured our world. We particularly remembered those whose service and sacrifice has brought us that peace that we can now enjoy.

It has been a tradition, with this year marking the centenary, for people, mostly in Commonwealth countries, to wear a red poppy and, through the work of the Royal British Legion, to remember those who gave their lives in the two World Wars and those, along with their families, and those from our Armed Forces who continue to be affected by war to this day.

The white poppy of the Peace Pledge Union asks us to remember the horrors of war and to commit to living lives of peace. This way of remembering those who are victims of war also encourages us and our leaders to challenge attempts to glamorise or glorify war.

The black or brown poppy encourages us to remember those from the Black Asian and Minority Ethnic communities who also contributed to bringing peace but whose contribution is so often forgotten or ignored. It is a reminder to remember all those who gave so selflessly.

The purple poppy is a reminder of the countless, unrecorded animal victims of war, both those who died in conflict, and those who, by neglect or otherwise, were also victims of war.

Any discussion of poppies is always controversial. People often hold very strong views. You may have seen the trolling that TV presenters have received for wearing a poppy with the leaves at what was considered an incorrect angle. As the great prayer of peace reminds us, we should first seek to understand rather than be understood Perhaps it is more important, as we did in our Services this week, to reflect on the small piece of stone, a piece of the memorial from Thiepval Memorial that commemorates those who died in the Battle of the Somme. The stone includes just part At the going of a letter - perhaps a W or an M - that once spelt the down of the sun name of an unknown soldier whose life, along with and in the countless millions, was cruelly cut short. While we can morning never know who this individual was, in our time of WE WILL prayer, reflection and remembrance this week, they, along with all those who have been died in such REMEMBER tragedy, were truly remembered.

Christmas Jumper Collection Reminder FOST is collecting (via collection boxes in both Prep and Senior reception) all unwanted or outgrown jumpers. Any Christmas jumpers collected will be for sale for a small donation in the School Uniform shop.

Virtual Christmas Fair Opens on Sunday 28th November

Christmas Fair Sunday 5th December Reminder for each girl to please send in their sweetie jars containing wrapped sweets or edible goodies (NO NUTS please!) or get creative with filling a jar with any other fun small items.

Thank You Thank you so much for the amazing support FOST received from the recent pre-loved prep book sale and clothing donation drive. A whopping 850kg of clothes were taken away and will be kept out of landfill. Books not sold were donated to St Michaels Mickleham and The Weald in Beare Greene which gratefully accepted them for use in their libraries. Approximately £700 has been raised through these two green initiatives. Funds from the book sale have been ear-marked for the new Prep school library.

Macmillan Cancer Support Also a huge thank you for your generous donations to Macmillan this year. Together we raised an amazing £1036.50 for this fantastic cause.

We hope that you are all staying wrapped up warm! It’s a bit chilly up here at equestrian!

A reminder to our riders to bring jumpers and coats as the weather gets colder and wetter as we head towards winter.

Also, as the weather starts to turn, if we are unable to offer ridden training due to the weather or unforeseen circumstances, stable management or equitation theory training will be provided instead. However, riders will be expected to arrive dressed to ride in all weathers with suitable outdoor clothing befitting the weather conditions.

Autumn Term 2021 Riding Dates Half Term – Monday 18th October to Sunday 31st October Lessons run from: Monday 1st November to Saturday 18th December Christmas Pony Days We will be running Pony Mornings and Afternoons on the 20th, 21st, 22nd and 23rd December, and the 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th January.

Pony Mornings run from 9.30am to 12.30pm, and Afternoons run from 1pm to 4pm.

All bookings need to be made directly on the bookings system, except for those who pay by childcare vouchers. If you do pay by vouchers, please contact the office to make your booking.

Please note that we have restricted the sessions by ability level so not all the sessions will show as available on the system to book.

Dates are mostly full. Please contact the office if you wish to be added to the waitlist.

NSEA Competition Reports On Sunday 7th November, we had a couple of teams and some individuals head to Felbridge for the Eventers Challenge and Grassroots Qualifier.

In the 50cm and 60cm Show jumping classes, individual rider Lilly S rode two clear rounds to come 6th and 9th respectively!

We then had a team and two individual riders in the Eventers Challenge 70cm class. The team - Antonia S, Joe N, Lottie B and Sofie S - came 3rd overall! With two clear rounds and two four faults. Izzy L, riding as an individual, went clear to come 2nd!

For the 80cm Eventers Challenge, the team - Antonia S, Chloe B, Claudia B and Joe N - rode brilliantly to come in 1st place with three clear rounds!

Well done to everyone who rode on Sunday for the qualifiers!

Dib Dab Art

Toddler Art Class Our Toddler Art Class runs from 9.45-10.45am and is open to everyone from 10 months to 4 years. There is a weekly theme packed full of educational early years topics, lots of fun messy painting and wonderful take-home crafts to hone those fine motor skills!
