Message from Mrs Conrad The staff and I were delighted to welcome the girls back to school this week; the excited faces and infectious giggles on the first day back raised all our spirits. What a joy to see each other face to face once again!

This week also saw the beginning of our partnership with Guildford City Swimming Club who are now leading the training sessions with our swim squads, as well as a new partnership with Inspire Academy of Dance who are delivering all our curriculum dance lessons – watch this space for a fun selection of dance clubs after school once Covid restrictions are eased.

Stride Ventures launched their young enterprise project with our Year 6 pupils this week and the girls are now strategically working on their business plans ready for launching after Easter. I wonder which team will make the most profit?!

So as you can see, only 5 days back and already St Teresa’s is a hive of activity – long may it be so!

Summer Uniform Please may the girls in Reception to Year 5 return to school after Easter wearing their summer uniform. Summer Uniform is optional for our Year 6 girls, however, they may be required to wear their winter uniform for special occasions. As a reminder, the summer uniform consists of: pink and white striped dress; white ankle socks; navy crested baseball style sun hat; boater with cerise band (optional for Year 1 and Year 2 only); blazer and cardigan.

Absence From School & Online Learning If your daughter is off school due to feeling unwell, run down or tired she should take the time to rest and recuperate and not attempt to access online learning. If she is off school for any other reason (self isolation, quarantining, an injury or a longer term illness) and does not necessarily feel unwell in herself, she can access online learning, but teachers will need 24 hours notice to get this up and running.

Ella J has shown enthusiasm and engagement in our lessons this week since we have returned to school. She has worked particularly hard in English researching and designing her Dreamcatcher.

Farah V for excellent participation in all our lessons since our return to school. Farah has contributed her ideas and produced fantastic work this week. We will miss Farah as she leaves today and returns to America.

Year 6—’Hola Mexico’ As part of their topic, ’Hola Mexico’, Year 6 had a go at cooking some Mexican specialties at home. There were tacos, dumplings, guacamole, enchiladas, salsa, nachos, cookies, fajitas, and many, many more. Delicious!

Year 1– Team Building Year 1 began their first week back at school with some fun Team Building games to welcome their new classmates!

We played lots of games, but our favourite was 'Don't let it drop!'. The girls had a selection of balloons and they had to work as a team to keep the balloons up in the air and not let any of them touch the ground. The wind was a little mean to us, but the girls didn't let that stop them!

Year 3—International Women’s Day Year 3 learnt about bold, courageous and visionary women this week to celebrate International Women's Day. We thought about what qualities we had and how we could change the world, creating exploding heads and writing letters to our future selves.

International Women’s Day—Year 2 Inspired by Yayoi Kusama, the 'Princess of Polka Dots', Year 2 created their own pieces of artwork and a collaborative piece of work for our class gallery. We learnt about Yayoi Kusama's love of art, fashion and sculpture and her will to make the world a better place by protesting for peace, not war.

Year 6—Science As part of science week, Year 6 have been looking at the skeleton. They were tasked with designing and constructing a structure that will support a ball as high above the table top as possible with only 10 sheets of newspaper and a metre of Sellotape. Here are some of the winning designs:

Year 4—Road Trip USA In Year 4 this week we have been researching, designing and creating our very own Dreamcatchers, for our Topic Road Trip USA. We have learnt about the Native American Tradition of catching bad dreams in the spider's web and allowing good dreams to float down though the feathers during the night. We wrote sets of instructions describing how to make the Dreamcatchers and followed each step to create our unique masterpieces. Happy Dreaming!

Home Cooking!

Phoebe has been enjoying cooking lessons over the term. Here are some of the things that she has made. Well done Phoebe!

Sports News The girls have made a great start in PE this week, working on their football and netball skills. We have also had record numbers at our clubs, which is fantastic!

Class of the Week!

Our class of the week for outstanding effort goes to 4RN!

Interhouse Netball We have started our interhouse netball competitions this week. Year 4 showed superb enthusiasm and team work, designing their own warm ups, including their own netball drills.

Phoebe in Year 5 has been working really hard on her hockey goal keeping skills and hand-eye coordination during lockdown. Well done Phoebe!

England Netball England Netball are giving everyone the chance to win 15 netballs, by designing their own netball. Entries are due in on the 5th April. See the link here for more details.

Music News Musicians of the Week Maggie M and Zara O’D for making very good contributions to music lessons.

Layla S for all her fantastic music work and contributions to lessons whilst in lockdown in another country.

Instrumental Lessons Please note that the cost of instrumental lessons will rise in September. In line with the Senior School, this will be £217.50 for a set of 10 half hour lessons.

String Ensembles It has been lovely to see the return of the Year 5 and Year 6 string ensembles this week. The Year 3 string quartet have had their first rehearsal and worked very hard to play pieces together. Well done girls!

This Week The Jerusalem Temple was known to be the most beautiful building of its time. And for the Jewish people it was the place on earth where God was truly present. We know that Jesus visited the Temple frequently. We have two accounts of him visiting the temple as a child, once when he was presented by Mary and Joseph when he was a child, and once when he was found discussing with the teachers of the law in the Temple courts.

So it is perhaps no surprise to see Jesus’ reaction when he arrives in the Temple only to find the outer court overrun with cattle, sheep, and pigeons for the sacrifices, and the moneychangers making their profits. Instead of a place of quiet contemplation where earth meets heaven, there was all the noise and chaos of a market place. Rather than a place where all are welcomed, it had become a place where the people of God were pushed to the margins and excluded. No wonder Jesus railed against this injustice and cleared the Temple of the animals and the moneychangers. He was restoring the relationship between God and all peoples, and nothing could get in the way.

Our lives can sometimes become like those Temple courts, overrun with so much that can keep us away from God - thoughtlessness, self-centredness, our lack of care for others. During this season of Lent, we ask, with Jesus’ help, to drive those habits, attitudes and behaviours out of our lives so that we can once again become people of prayer, with God’s love truly living in our hearts, and a growing desire to share that love with all we meet.

We hope that you are all well and have had a lovely first week back at school.

It has been lovely to start teaching again, even though there are so few of you that we are able to teach we’ve loved every minute of it. The ponies have also had fun in their lessons which is great!

We will be continuing like this for the remainder of this term and we’re so excited to open up to all on Monday 29th March for our Pony Days!

Sadly we are not taking on new riders who are not part of either St Teresa’s or Cranmore, but hope to book these new riders in for the summer.

We are also trying out a new booking system. It has only been available to a small amount of people, but we’ll be looking to open it up to all shortly. Bear with us untill we get the hang of it and if you have any feedback please do let us know!

Easter Pony Afternoons We have a few spaces left on our Pony Mornings and Afternoons.

Mornings run from 9.30am to 12.30pm, and Afternoons run from 1pm to 4pm.

Priced at £50 a session.

Please contact the office for all Pony Day bookings, and payments will be made on our new system.

For those who have booked in, or are thinking about booking in for the Easter Holidays, please bring your own hat and boots to ride in as we are not lending out equipment until it is deemed safe to do so.

NSEA Reports Competitions will be opening from Monday 29th March, and we hope our NSEA riders are as excited as we are to get out and about competing for 2021!

We have some riders already booked in for a show jumping competition on the 8th April at Felbridge Showgrounds. We wish them the best of luck!

Next FOST Meeting The FOST class reps meeting is taking place next Friday. If you have anything to raise please let your Class Rep know so we can discuss then. We would especially love to hear any ideas for covid safe fundraising.
