Message from Mrs Conrad It was wonderful to welcome back the girls and the sunshine this week. As ever, the school has been a hive of activities: chocolate tasting, Judaism workshops, preparations for sport’s day and rehearsals for the Y6 production.

Great Work!

Year 3 Maths Mrs Cooper's Maths group have been investigating irregular and regular polygons this week.

The girls had to count the number of sides and name the shape and then decided whether it was a irregular or regular polygon in our Venn diagram. There were a lot of animated discussions and a few trick shapes were put in to further their understanding.

Year 4 In Year 4 this week, we have started our new topic Misty Mountain Sierra by looking at and researching mountains from around the world. After reading The Mountain by Emily Dickinson we wrote our own poems and made them into Calligrams! We used different figurative language, such as personification and metaphors to make our mountains come alive!

Chocolate Workshops The girls had an amazing time at the Chocolate Workshop with Gary and Emily from the kitchen. Gary started by recapping where chocolate grows and the process of making cocoa from the cacao bean. We learnt that cacao trees can grow to be 18m tall! We were able to taste cocoa that hasn’t been processed and discovered that it is rather bitter. We also sampled chocolate that was 75% cocoa and milk chocolate which was much sweeter and decided which one we preferred.

We then had fun making chocolate lollies including sprinkles with Gary and chocolates using moulds with Emily.

Whilst this was happening, the girls had fun creating a paper and tin foil chocolate wrapper in the style of Roy Lichtenstein. It was so much fun and we can’t wait to taste the chocolate lollies tomorrow!

Year 3 Gardening Club Today the girls had fun constructing their miniature gardens using slate, pebbles, compost, grass seed and things they have found on the school grounds. Some of the girls brought in items from home to add to their gardens. The girls also had the fun job of weeding all the raised beds and watering all the plants as they were rather thirsty after the sunshine. The class chilli plants and mini cucumber plants are growing fast too!

Judaism Workshops On Thursday we welcomed Ruth Jampel from Judaism in Schools for a whole school assembly and year group workshops as part of our Other Faiths project in Religious Education about Judaism. We found out a huge amount about Jewish beliefs, worship and day to day life. Years 1 and 2 found out about how a Jewish family celebrate Shabbat, Year 3 investigated what you would find inside a Synagogue, Year 4 developed their understanding of the Jewish scriptures particularly the Torah, Year 5 learnt about the Exodus story and how it is celebrated at Pesach (Passover) and Year 6 reflected on the Jewish new year celebrated at Rosh Hashanah. It was wonderful for the girls to have this first hand experience and to work with real artefacts. We hope you enjoy these images of the day.

Year 1– Rio De Vida Year 1 are thoroughly enjoying their Rio De Vida topic this half term and are in full Rio Carnival swing! Before the half term, the girls enjoyed designing some masks that they thought would be an ideal accessory to a Rio Carnival float. This week, they turned those designs into a reality and made their own Carnival Masks! Time for a Fiesta!

Sports News The last few weeks have been a productive and busy time for girls at St Teresa’s. Not only have they been busy playing matches and preparing for Sports day, they have been excelling in their Sports outside of School.

PE Star Class of the Week PE star class of the week goes to 5HC for their effort in PE.

Tennis Year 4’s have finished their Surrey league tennis matches, winning against Hawthorns 3 out of their 4 games overall. Well done to Peyton, Liliana, Alex, Poppy and Olivia. I look forward to sharing where they placed in the league.

Cricket U10 and U11’s had a cricket match against Manor House. U10’s came away with a win. Both teams showed a huge improvement in their bowling. Players of the matches were Frankie and Arabella C U11’s were playing again on Wednesday against Hawthorns. The A’s came away with a win, remembering to move their feet when batting. Players of the matches were Ava S, Katie and Arabella.

Stella in Year 6 plays netball for Thames Ditton Juniors and had a fantastic match before half term winning against The Downs club. Well done Stella!

Cricket FUN! Olivia K, Poppy, Emma and Alex in Year 4 and Rachel in Year 3 represented their club; Horsley and Send in the U9 Smash It festival in Croydon during half term They won 2 and lost 1 game. Girls batted, bowled and fielded exceptionally well!! Great work girls!

Over half term, India in Year 4 kept fit by long bike rides, practising her netball and cricket in the garden, trampolining and long walks! Keep up the great work!

Xanthe in Year 6 has been accepted into the Chelsea football academy in the U12 squad at Chelsea FC Women’s Academy. A fantastic achievement, well done!

Tabby in Year 6 has been improving her swimming in and out of the water and was selected to attend a Surrey County development camp led by our Swim coach Matt Smart, Surrey County Head Coach. The day involved stroke technique, as well as nutritional and conditioning advice.

Tabby has also been nominated by her Netball club, Fetcham Hawks to attend Surrey U13 Netball trials in September. This will involve attending three 'workshops' in the first few weeks of September and then she will be selected from this to go to trials. Another great achievement and opportunity! Keep up the great work!

Swimming Results for Sophia Sophia in Year 5 has been excelling in her swimming at Leatherhead Swimming Club. She recently took part in the Level X competition and is ranked 5th in the country for her 100m breaststroke, 9th in the country for 100m freestyle and 1st in Surrey for 100m freestyle and breaststroke. Fantastic effort!

Sofie in Year 5 competed in the Hickstead show jumping competition over half term and placed 7th, giving her a place in the finals. Well done Sofie!

STASH St Teresa’s Activity Summer Holiday Camp (STASH) will be going ahead in the first week of the Summer holidays from the 5th-9th July. This will be open to all girls in the Prep School and involves sporting activities, as well as arts and crafts. Full details will be sent out soon.

Summer Swimming Crash Courses Mrs Farrier will be running swimming crash courses in the weeks commencing 26th July, 9th August & 23rd August.

Chapel Concert Congratulations to all the girls from Year 3 to Year 6 who have recorded their performances this week. They have all worked very hard to prepare for the concert and we would like to offer huge thanks to all the instrumental teachers who have helped them. The link for the concert will be sent out later in the term.

Instrumental Lessons It is not too late to organise a taster session on an instrument for learning in September. Please contact Mrs Yalden on c.yalden@st-teresas.com if you are interested in organising a session for your daughter. There are currently spaces for all instruments!

This Week At the beginning of every assembly we light a candle and remember the words of Jesus, that ‘Whenever two or more are gathered together in my name, I will be there with them.’ It is reassuring to know that Jesus is, indeed, always with us. And, in fact, there are many ways that he is with us.

Certainly we remember those people, like Mary Magdalene and Thomas, who met Jesus while he lived on earth. They talked with him, ate with him, heard what he preached and saw the awesome things that he did. When we read and recall these events we too come to know Jesus just as they did. In fact, whenever we read the Bible, we recognise that Jesus, the Word of God, is present with us.

Jesus taught us how to love, so whenever we experience real love, we are experiencing the real presence of Jesus. This can be easier with our family and friends, but we are reminded that Jesus is present in every single person that we meet, without exception. We need to welcome them in the same way that we welcome Jesus.

Jesus reminds us that this is especially the case with the poor. Jesus is always on the side of those who are poor, neglected or left out. If we want to see the real presence of Jesus, we will always find him in the poor.

And finally, and in a particularly special way, we remember that Jesus is present when we celebrate Eucharist. When he said, ‘This is my body, this is my blood.’ he truly meant it. Jesus is truly there.

Through this week, let us try to recognise the real presence of Jesus in our lives.

Not only did we have an incredible half term week with our Pony Days, but we said goodbye to Ellie as she set off to her new home on Friday 4th June.

Arnie will also be leaving us at the end of the month to start his new chapter. We are on the lookout for horses to join STE and have a couple in the line up already. However this does mean that horse availability will be even tighter for the second half of the term until we can replace the amazing Ellie and Arnie.

We also have three tickets going for a trip to the International Horse Show on Thursday 16th December 2021. Please contact the office to find out pricings if you are interested.

NSEA Competition Reports The Eventers Challenge Championship was on Saturday 29th May at Hickstead where we had four NSEA riders out competing. The course was up to height and everyone rode brilliantly!

In the 70cm, our team - Inde W, Lottie B, Lulu S and Sofie S - did incredibly to come 19th out of 27 team! Lulu even went clear in the optimum time. Congratulations Lulu and everyone!

There was also a SJ Qualifier running at Hickstead on the same day and we had six riders out competing in the 70cm and 80cm classes. The Pink Team - Chloe B, Lottie B and Sofie S - and the Green Team - Inde W, Rebekah S and Victoria S - all competed in the 70cm class with the Pink Team coming 7th in the team placings and Chloe placing 6th as an individual!

Well done everyone!

Then, on Friday 4th June we had a large group of NSEA riders out competing at Parwood for a Dressage competition.

In the Introductory class riding Intro A was Alex N, Inde W, Lulu S and Minty W who came 1st as a team with Alex placing 2nd, Inde placing 3rd and Lulu placing 5th individually!

In the Prelimary class riding Prelim 13 was Antonia S, Chloe B, Inde W, Joe N, Lulu S, Minty W and Victoria S. Joe

Christmas Fair After the success of last year's Christmas Fair, it's looking hopeful that we will be able to hold a real Fair this year alongside some virtual events as well. The date for the Fair is Sunday 5th December and we have been assured Father Christmas has it in his diary already. We will be posting lots of updates after the Summer holidays, but for now just wanted to encourage any local businesses interested in holding a stall at the Fair to get in touch by emailing secretary.fost@icloud.com.
