Whatt are importtant are the values of the indivviduals towaards one an nother and towards theeir scho ool life.

I am certtain that thiss will continue with next yea w r’s Upper Sixxth who are a tremendo ous ye ear group and they willl be able to o create evven grreater cohession and toggetherness. In the end th his means m your boys b want to make the most of their tim me here and d this is seen with record numbers of bo oys in Nortth dedicatin ng themselvves to mussic, drrama, outd door educaation, sportt and, mo ost im mportantly, their t academ mic work. I was delightted byy the majoriity of resultss in the IVth form and LV Vth exxams as thiss is the ultim mate measure of a Hou use an nd its ability to generatee a purposeful atmospheere on n a daily bassis. This is a collective acchievement so it is a huge ‘thanks’ to my deputiies (JMW and RH HGJ), the wo onderful Matrons (Karen n and Marion), cleaners (Pam m, Jan, May, Maria and Lucy) and the t utor team (V VJB, MRJ, BRT, THJB, DIA, D WDH, TRB tu an nd APS). Finally, a than nks to the U6th U who haave prrovided a number of m memories (b both good and baad!) and some phenom menal leaderrship over the co ourse of the year.

House Tennis Despite the brief showers, the skies cleared and the six North boys, comprising of; Max O’Brien , Gio De Nardi , Jonny Paddle, Ben Wells, Jonathan Hobbs and Marcus Kim stepped on to the rather tough astro turf to try and bring something home. Unfortunately our first matches against a very strong Cubitt team were not successful. Cubitt did go on in fact to win the competition. Our second round of matches proved to be a bit of an upset to the avidly dominant East House with Gio and Max O’Brien
NORTH HOUSE ‐ Summer 2012 10 North juniors participated in the house tennis in which we were rank outsiders. These included: Freddie O’Brien, Jake Harvey, Ben Strickland, Jake Andrews, Will Boddington, Dom Coy, Ben Gasson and I. First we played Loveday and lost narrowly despite a couple of close matches, this placed us last overall at this stage by only a few points. This spurred us on to a great success against East, in which we over took them and slotted into 3rd place. It was still close because we were only 1 point behind Cubitt, with them still to play and only 2 points ahead of East who desperately wanted to not come last. With a good performance from the whole team we comfortably managed to secure 3rd place ahead of East. As a team we played well and exceeded in doing so enjoyed ourselves. Freddie O’Brien

As you can imagine the badminton talent in North House is unbelievable, hence it may come as a shock to you to have seen Will Setterfield on the team sheet. It may stun you further to hear we came last. However there were some truly majestic shapes being thrown on the court in attempt to keep the shuttlecock up and in play. Owen Quant and Max
Rothman were certainly the dominant force in the North team despite losing one game, as Savill and Setterfield, in the other game, played on more of a primitive level.Well done to participants and many thanks to everyone who supported. Stay sweet X Toby Savill

Junior House Golf
The North House golf team consisted of Jack Horsey, Rory Kennedy, Jake Andrews, Will Boddington, Freddie Ricks and 5 excellent caddies superbly dressed for the occasion. Our semi final vs. Cubitt was contested well in the beautiful recent sunshine. However the weather didn’t match our performance as we were trumped 3‐2 by Cubitt. Jack Horsey and Rory Kennedy winning, but unfortunately Jake, Will, and Freddie couldn’t quite hold on for victory and a place in the final. Perhaps our heads weren’t in the game because of the previous cancellation due to rain however the caddies were certainly not to blame putting out a top performance and adding to the atmosphere on a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon.

House Athletics On a typical English summer’s day, athletes from all Houses battled the gale force winds and cold stinging rain, to take part in some athletics. In North, we are not known for our athletic ability; the motto, ‘it’s the taking part that counts’ springs to mind. However, despite this, the North boys competed with their usual fervour, and by no apparent fluke (or sabotage) placed third out of fourth in the competition. It was a really good turnout from North, testament to an excellent house spirit. The day was really good fun, and congratulations and commiserations to all athletes. Special mentions must go to; Will Jeanes who won his 1500m, Alex Gook who also won his 100m race, Toby Savill who placed second in a very competitive 200m, Ben Gasson who performed well in both Javelin and Shot put, and AJ Coates who took on a medley of events. Will Setterfield We all kitted up in our athletics kit and began the walk to fame and glory. As we entered the lowers the spectators stopped what they were doing, turned, looked, and gasped there were hushed voices whispering “look its North”, small children saying “Mummy, are they super heroes?” and other things of the sort. The fact that North ultimately came third was probably due to our finely tuned techniques being ruined by the
weather that didn’t play as much havoc with the other Houses’ more brutish methods of competition. Ben Gasson

North House Swimming
After a sterling performance last year and a well earned victory, there were high expectations for the North House Swim Team. As the smoke cleared and the sound of the war drums faded away, the Team stepped forward. The captain, Harry McCagherty, was at the front of the Team followed by his faithful Lieutenant, Tommy Taylor, and then the rest of the almighty squadron that could lead North to another successful year in Cranleigh’s prestigious House Swimming Tournament. The tournament soon turned into a three horse race with Loveday and East leading out and North following close behind. However, victories from Harry McCagherty in his races brought the gap closer and first‐rate swims from Julian Browning and Tommy Taylor narrowed the lead down to only a few points separating East and North.
A whisper emerged, a whisper that turned into a cry as the word of North House’s victory spread like wild fire through the endless waves of supporters. A miscalculation from the officials meant the victory was a tie between North and East. The boys are no longer boys, they are men; men who rose above the odds and conquered all who stood in their way, taking no prisoners and securing a fantastic and well deserved victory for North. North House Swim Team, I salute you!
It was now time for the Junior Boys to hear the trumpet call and flank the enemy at their weakest point. Our juniors were led by Christian McCagherty they easily left the competition behind in their wake.

Senior House Cricket Our prospects this year actually seemed rather bright after gathering together an able bunch of men for the task. Our opener was against East, a strongly fancied team, boasting a bowling attack which, if honest, we all feared. However we started well and put together a tidy bowling performance to contain them to just 85 runs of their twelve overs. The batting was patchy with Pete Thompson’s enormous hitting being the highlight. Unfortunately North amassed only 53 runs
in reply, not a good start. In the playoff against Cubitt, we felt we held the upper hand and we performed admirably in the field once more ‐ Callum Kent made a superb five stumpings, restricting them to just 84. Fear was rife amongst our opponents the Cubitians, until that is we found ourselves floundering in the drizzle at 13 for 4. No matter we thought, Pete Thompson shall prove to be our saviour. And try he did but unfortunately the job was too much, assisted commendably by Jonny Paddle, Will Setterfield and Dave Forster we fell short at 60 all out. Luke Boyd
Junior House Cricket In the semi‐final we faced Loveday, whose team contained nine A team players and two B players. We, on the other‐hand, had the majority of the mighty C team and even brought in a tennis player. We batted first and Sam Scutt and Jack Horsey, the tennis player, and A’s number 11, opened and put on a fine performance, with some incredible shots including some textbook Dilshans. Unfortunately, we went
slightly down‐hill as Loveday brought out their best bowler to dismiss Rory Kennedy and Giacomo Gray. Even after Ollie Rodriguez and captain, Mylo Boyd, put up resistance it seemed Loveday’s bowlers were just too good. We ended on 73. After some decent bowling from Jack, Oli and Mylo and a tidy performance from the wicket‐ keeper, Rory; Loveday achieved our score with an over to spare. In the second match we faced East. It was a close match but even after some excellent fielding from Ollie Taylor and Alex Robertson we narrowly lost. An unfortunate 4th place, but a fun afternoon. Rory Kennedy
North House Charity Day On Sunday the 1st of July, the North House boys carried out the annual charity day. As the baton of organisation was passed down from the U6 to the L6, all eyes fell on them, eager to see what they would come up with. This year the L6 did not disappoint by coming up with a fun packed day which everyone could take part in. The day was set and all was ready for the full day of sports done in order to raise money for the charity “Friends of Tim”. Tim is an Old Cranleighian and North House boy, who suffers from an aggressive form of MS. All the current members of the North House community engagied in various sports activities in an all day sports marathon, starting from 7am till just about 6:30pm. We played several sports including; Danish long ball, Football, touch rugby and cycling. Although the weather proved a bit disastrous, the North House boys proved triumphant and at the end raised nearly £2,000 for “Friends of Tim”. Mayo Runsewe
