Cranleigh School is delighted to welcome Bryn and Emma Parry to an evening at the school. Preceding the main event (an illustrated talk in Speech Hall) we will run a reception in the Reading Room, with drinks and nibbles, and therefore a chance to meet Bryn and Emma and a member of the Band of Brothers (a fellowship of wounded men and women). Theirs is an inspirational story…. seven years after its launch, the charity has raised over £200m to help wounded, injured and sick Servicemen and Servicewomen. Help for Heroes offers comprehensive support to those who have suffered life-changing injuries and illnesses whilst serving our country. This is provided through grants to individuals, other charities and organisations, capital build projects and our four Recovery Centres across the UK which offer support for life. The money raised by the hugely generous public has been used to support our wounded, but there is still so much more to do. Soldiers, sailors and airmen who are injured today will still need our support tomorrow and in the days that follow, for the rest of their lives. They are still battling and we won’t let them battle alone.

At the time of writing two teams totalling twenty two students, together with accompanying staff, are preparing for a month long trip to China. Most of our time will be spent in the west of Szechuan Province, where we will be living and working with the nomadic Tibetan population and tackling some 5000m mountains. We will also be taking the overnight train right across China to visit the famous Terracotta Army at Xian and then on to spend a little time in Beijing. This talk will relate our experiences, tell you how we got on and whether we succeeded in our goals. It will appeal to anyone with an interest in mountains, Geography, travel and adventure. Do come along to find out how we faired.
