Since 2016, the race series has raised over $900,000 for the hospital. n The Holiday Tree Festival fills the John S. Knight Center with more than 200 decorated trees to benefit Akron Children’s. Since 1982, volunteers have raised over $5.4 million, including a record $326,000 in 2017. n The 98.1 KDD Have a Heart, Do Your Part and Mix 98.9 Miracles & Promises radiothons let patients and families share their stories on air. Celebrating the 25th Anniversary of the Heart Walk: The Cleveland Heart Walk is the Association’s largest local participant event for raising funds and heart rates to save lives from the No. 1 and No. 2 leading causes of death worldwide — heart disease and stroke.

The campaign, celebrating its 25th anniversary, promotes physical activity and healthy habits by engaging individuals, families and corporations in meaningful activities year-round leading up to the walk. In addition, it rallies Americans to healthier living by unifying people around the idea that, by making small changes, they can create a difference for generations to come.

Over 100 companies, along with their employees, support the event annually, drawing 10,000 walkers who are improving their health, honoring loved ones touched by cardiovascular diseases and raising funds for the Association.

Cleveland Metroparks is a nationally recognized and accredited park system, spanning more than 23,000 acres across Northeast Ohio. Cleveland Metroparks is inclusive of 18 park reservations, more than 300 miles of trails, eight golf courses, eight lakefront parks, dining and retail venues, and the nationally acclaimed Cleveland Metroparks Zoo. The Zoo Society is governed by a board of trustees and is an independent 501(c)(3). The organizations share one mission: “We create compelling experiences that connect people with wildlife and inspire personal responsibility for conserving the natural world.”

Zoo Society donors have contributed $78 million since 1998 toward zoo operations, conservation projects and capital improvements, including this year’s Asian Highlands and Jack, Joseph and Morton Mandel Welcome Pavilion.

The Zoo Society’s philanthropic priorities include campus renewal, as well as supporting the zoo’s national leadership role in science education programming, research and positive animal health and welfare standards.

In addition to funding that Zoo Society donors provided $3.8 million catalyzes animal care and for Asian Highlands, the new home for snow educational programming in leopards, red pandas and more.

Cleveland, the Zoo Society contributes $500,000 annually to support the zoo’s international conservation partners, working to secure a future for wildlife around the world.

The Zoo Society maintains the largest membership program in Northeast Ohio (more than 40,000 households) and regularly achieves a 95% customer satisfaction rating. Several membership levels exist, from individual and family to young professional and ZooKeepers Circle; VIP levels focus on philanthropic giving and include exclusive events.

Twilight at the Zoo (August): The Zoo Society’s largest fundraiser; more than 7,000 people enjoy 20 bands playing throughout the Zoo. Zoo Clues & Brews (August): Hosted by members of the young professional program, this event features a smartphone-based scavenger hunt.

WHAT WE DO

For more than 50 years, infants in the Greater Cleveland area have been dying at a rate similar to many third-world countries. First Year Cleveland wants to change that. We are a community movement committed to ensuring that every baby born in Cuyahoga County will celebrate their first birthday.

Our 11 community-wide action teams are poised to tackle the challenges that contribute to infant mortality. We focus on addressing racial disparities, decreasing extreme prematurity and eliminating sleeprelated deaths — proven strategies aimed to reduce (and sustain a low number of) infant deaths for decades to come.

Alarmed by what many considered an First Year Cleveland is a community movement unsolvable problem, committed to ensuring that every baby born in Cuyahoga leaders representing County will celebrate their first birthday. every sector of the community came together in early 2016 and established First Year Cleveland to develop an effective, comprehensive and sustainable approach to solving infant mortality in our area.

Early efforts have been encouraging — proving that success is possible — but much more needs to be done to keep our babies alive and healthy so they can reach their first birthday. Join us as we work together to reach the national goal set by the CDC for infant mortality by 2020.

The Lantern provides free residential care to chemically dependent men, and educates and assists them with recovery from substance use disorders.

Addiction is powerful, and it’s relentless, but it can be treated. Awareness, education and readily available resources are critical for rehabilitation. Because addicted individuals may be uncertain about entering treatment, taking advantage of available resources the moment people are ready for care is critical.

That said, the Lantern provides these resources by acting as a safety net, and providing care for men who would otherwise be unable to access our public health system. The Lantern does not rely on government funding; rather, we concentrate our revenue strategies on private donations and community support to assure our programming remains free.

New Directions specializes in life-saving, life-changing care and recovery from addiction for young people. We provide quality treatment to substance abusing adolescents, young adults and their families, who are dealing with emotional, behavioral or psychiatric challenges. A continuum of service — from outpatient counseling to residential treatment — is available on our east side recovery campus.

Maria McNamara was enjoying life, taking dance lessons and playing with her brothers, when she was suddenly diagnosed with one of the deadliest and least understood childhood brain tumors. While Maria was receiving treatment at St. Jude, she made many new friends who were fighting just like she was. Maria started praying for them every night, hoping the doctors would find a way to make them better. Those prayers continued until her own battle ended a year later on July 14, 2007. Ravenwood Health provides high-quality, comprehensive and community-based behavioral health services to residents of Geauga County, along with surrounding communities, in order to maximize the autonomy, independence and quality of life of the recipients of our services.

As a Joint Commission Accredited organization, we have over 25 programs across nine sites, sensitive to differing socio-economic needs.

We are also a Trauma-Informed Agency, as we understand, recognize and respond to the effects of all traumas. Physical, psychological and emotional safety is emphasized within the care of our clients, community and partner organizations.

Ravenwood brings hope to children and families through its Intensive Home Based Treatment (IHBT) program. We know that when children are struggling with severe emotional problems or recovery issues, it can result in substantial stress on caregivers, as well as the whole family system.

IHBT is designed to provide immediate relief of symptoms and maintain children safely in their homes, schools and community.

Ravenwood Health hosted its Community access to our Medication Assisted 20th Anniversary Client Art Treatment (MAT) services has increased for Show in May 2018. residents who are diagnosed with opioid use disorder or have a history of overdose. Clients may be referred by family, the Sheriff’s Jail Treatment Program, the Court System or other government/nonprofit agencies. Goals are set with individuals to maintain their recovery and be included productively within our compassionate community. We have discovered that, along with a reduction in drug use relapse, the number of drug-related offenses and fatalities have slowed over time.

Run with Ravenwood — Run for the Health of It: Over the past three years, Ravenwood Health has hosted a scenic September 5K and 1 Mile Run/Walk within the heart of Geauga County. Our generous community has raised tens of thousands in funds that support behavioral health care for clients — from childhood throughout a lifetime.

Client Art Show: This past May, Ravenwood Health hosted our 20th Anniversary Client Art Show. Annually, we celebrate the benefits of art therapy and invite our community to view and purchase artwork.

WHAT WE DO

United Way of Greater Cleveland, whose footprint encompasses Cuyahoga, Medina and Geauga counties, provides funding for local health and human service programs to improve lives and strengthen our communities. Since 1913, donors to United Way of Greater Cleveland have provided life-changing help to people in need, often in the direst situations.

WHY IS FIGHTING POVERTY SO HARD? The root causes of poverty are deeply interconnected and complex — people who can’t read, can’t find jobs. They may lose their homes, so their children miss school and fall behind, trapping the next generation in the toxic cycle of poverty. It’s clear: meeting immediate needs is crucial, and we will never waver in that work. But it’s not enough. We need bold, breakthrough thinking. We need proactive, strategic approaches. We need changemakers.

We are enhancing our Workplace Campaign — with multiple new resource streams– with the promise to invest every dollar entrusted to us wisely and effectively. By digging deep into data, we are identifying organizations that are confronting the most critical problems and can best achieve life-changing results. Through our COMMUNITY HUB MODEL and IMPACT INSTITUTE, our community investment process is transparent, integrated and solutions-driven.
