Good morning, and welcome to Crain’s Third Annual [M]Power Manufacturing Assembly Dear [M]POWER 2016 Attendees, Nineteen percent of regional employment. Forty percent of our regional GDP. Over 268,000 jobs.

John E. Skory is president of The Illuminating Company, a FirstEnergy electric utility operating company.

A native of Cleveland, Skory has been with the company for 38 years. He began his career with The Illuminating Company in 1977 as a meter reader and has served in a variety of operations and managerial positions over the years. In 2000, he was promoted to manager, Workforce Development, Regional Operations, where he was instrumental in helping establish the company’s award-winning Power Systems Institute training program. In 2002, Skory was promoted to director, Operations Support Services for Ohio Edison and was named director of Operations Support Services for The Illuminating Company in 2003. In 2010, Skory served on the FirstEnergy-Allegheny Energy merger team prior to being named president of Pennsylvania Electric Company, another FirstEnergy electric utility operating company. He was named to his current position in September 2012.

Skory earned his A.A. degree from Cuyahoga Community College and a bachelor’s degree in business administration from David N. Myers College in Cleveland.

In addition, he has completed almost 1,000 hours of coursework and training throughout his career, including earning “Strategic Business Leadership” and “Financial Analysis” certificates from the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business.

Skory currently serves on a number of community boards, including the Cleveland Area United Way Board and is a member of the executive committee, as well as a regional board representative; University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center board and a member of the Quality and Professional Affairs Committee; Cuyahoga Community College Foundation Board and a member of the Finance Committee; American Red Cross Board of Directors; and the Greater Cleveland Sports Commission.

Ward J. “Tim” Timken, Jr. is chairman, CEO and president of TimkenSteel Corporation, leading its transition to a strong and independent company.

Timken most recently served as chairman of The Timken Company, leading a strategy that resulted in more than tripling the stock price during his tenure. He joined Timken’s steel business in 1992 and progressed through a series of roles in sales and marketing management and geographic leadership in Europe and Latin America, where he helped fuel the company’s global growth. He served as vice chairman, playing a pivotal role in the development of strategy that expanded the company’s product portfolio into industrial market segments. He also served as president of steel before being named company chairman in 2005.

Tim Timken Chairman, CEO & President, TimkenSteel

Earlier in his career, Timken opened and managed the Washington, D.C., office of McGough & Associates, a Columbus, Ohio-based government affairs consulting firm. Timken serves on the boards of Team NEO and the American Iron and Steel Institute, where he served as chairman of each. Additional board memberships include Pella Corporation, the National Association of Manufacturers Executive Committee, the Ohio Business Development Council, the Ohio Business Roundtable Executive Committee, the Stark Development Board and the Timken Foundation.

Timken also serves as a trustee of the TimkenSteel Charitable Fund. Immediately prior to joining Tri-C, Booker served as vice president for workforce development for the Community College of Allegheny County in Pittsburgh.

Suzanne Bloomfield

General Manager, Blair Rubber/ Hyload (MRC) Jentzsch, a retired U.S. Navy commander, is the general manager of Blair Rubber and Hyload in Seville. His education is in chemical engineering, nuclear power and business management. Larry Fulton

CEO, LEFCO Worthington Started through an acquisition of two companies in 2003, LEFCO Worthington, a manufacturer of custom wood crates engineered to support manufacturers who ship their products around the globe, serves customers in the defense, utilities, industrial transportation and general industrial markets. LEFCO is also a distributor for Fastenal, selling consumable items and fasteners principally to the state of Ohio. Prior to starting LEFCO Worthington, Fulton had general management experience for a Fortune company and gained M&A, corporate finance and strategy and commercial banking experience from Key Bank, Marconi Communications and the U.S. Small Business Administration.

Adam Rockhold

Senior Account Executive/Engineering Divisional Lead, Aerotek Adam Rockhold is a senior account executive and lead of the engineering division for Aerotek in the Independence office. Rockhold began his career in the staffing industry in 2008, when Aerotek hired him as a recruiter. In 2010, he was promoted to account manager, and in 2013 he became account executive. He was promoted to his current position in 2015. Rockhold in 2008 earned his bachelor’s degree in marketing with a double minor in business management and communications from Marietta College.

How Innovation and Utilization Will Save Your Business MODERATOR: Michael O’Donnell Senior Growth Advisor

O’Donnell has more than 20 years of experience with a background in engineering. He has worked with companies such as Crown Battery and Vitamix to help them grow. Crown Battery came to him when their lead prices doubled and they couldn’t raise prices fast enough to bridge price gaps. He facilitated a five-day Kaizen event, bringing together 14 individuals from across the business to create a 120-day action plan. This plan saved Crown Battery an estimated $3 to $5 million. Another company, Vitamix, approached O’Donnell because it couldn’t meet demand and needed to improve culture and factory processes. He implemented MAGNET’s Lean Training Program, allowing Vitamix to increase its workforce to 800, its machine production by 25% and its on-time delivery from 75% to 93%.

Kent Winter

CEO, Winter Equipment Winter is the founder of Winter Equipment Company, the leading snow manufacturer of wear parts and heavy equipment in Ohio. Before devoting his work to Winter Equipment, Winter lived in Salt Lake City, where he earned a degree in engineering and welding. Winter started his career at Lincoln Electric, and in 1992 he started Winter Equipment Company. Over the past 25 years, WEC has grown with more than 50 employees.

Ron Poff

Director, Global Marketing and Brands, Mar-Bal Inc. Poff is responsible for Mar-Bal Inc.’s corporate marketing activities, including communications, brand development and product management. Manufacturing Reporter, Crain’s Cleveland Business McCafferty joined Crain’s Cleveland Business as a manufacturing reporter in March 2013. Before that, she was a local editor for Patch in Northeast Ohio and a reporter for Catalyst Ohio, a Cleveland education magazine. During his tenure at Nextant Aerospace, he drove and directed the formulation and implementation of policies, standards and procedures for Nextant Aerospace’s quality system, which assisted Nextant Aerospace in its transition from the development of a concept aircraft to becoming a world class remanufacturing facility of business jets.

Rick Wiltse

Master Black Belt, Tremco Incorporated During his nine-year tenure at Tremco, a manufacturer of sealants and waterproofing technologies, Wiltse was instrumental in developing a Lean Six Sigma program that spans seven different factories/sites and has accounted for several million dollars in savings. As the founder and facilitator of the AME Cleveland Lean Consortia, Wiltse is currently developing new benchmarking methods and standards in an effort to enhance the Lean programs of all consortia members. Wiltse is a certified master black belt from Ohio State University and received his MBA from Shenandoah University and a bachelor of science from Illinois State University.

Edward Steele

Vice President, Engineering and Quality, Bettcher Industries Steele serves as vice president of engineering and quality at Bettcher Industries, a producer of meat processing and food service equipment. Steele has more than 20 years of experience in directing design teams in development, and support of legacy, electro-mechanical products in various industries. His current responsibilities include coordinating lean conversion activities throughout the factory and office environments. In addition to his role at Bettcher, Steele also holds the position of vice president of engineering with Exsurco Medical, a manufacturer of skin excision tools in the tissue industry.

Katz has been senior vice president of the Canton Regional Chamber for nine years. Tom Humphries

President/CEO, Youngstown/Warren Regional Chamber Humphries has led the Youngstown/Warren Regional Chamber since April 1997. During the past 19 years, the chamber has enjoyed growth in both total number of members and services provided. Humphries implemented an aggressive economic development and marketing program in order to help the region develop a balanced economy, increase employment, diversify its tax base and create a better quality of life. Greg Cebular

VP of Sales, The Technology House Greg is the VP of Sales and Project Management at The Technology House. The Technology House (TTH) started in 1996 as a rapid prototyping service provider and is still a leader in the 3D printing and additive manufacturing industry. Greg joined TTH in 2003 after graduating with a BS from Ohio University and has helped to expand TTH’s presence into a full service provider from design to prototype and through production using Additive Manufacturing, Injection Molding and CNC Machining. Starting out as a project manager, Greg worked first hand with customers in the Aerospace, Medical, Automotive, Industrial and Consumer industries to develop solutions using 3D printing technologies. In 2008, Greg took lead of the sales and project management departments to grow both the prototype and production businesses. In all, FirstEnergy Generation employs 4,000 people across six states, with over 17,000 MWe capacity, serving 6 million customers. During his 35 year career in power generation, Barry participated in laying the ground work for implementing the U.S. nuclear power industry’s human performance improvement initiatives. He has used this as a springboard to improving both online performance and worker safety. This includes successful consulting work with large oil companies, heavy manufacturers, and energy companies.

Her passion for manufacturing education was sparked as she worked with the team at ToolingU implementing hybrid solutions for workforce training and educators. In 2008 Toni was instrumental in creating the Government and Education division of ToolingU - specializing in working with high schools, career centers and community colleges to enhance their programs with hybrid learning. In her time with ToolingU-SME Toni presented at regional and national conferences throughout the US to show the benefits of integrating technology in the classroom. After 10 1/2 years with ToolingU - Toni joined the Edge Factor team as their Partnership Architect. As the Partnership Architect Toni is following her passion for manufacturing education and expanding her focus to tackle the skills gap from the front lines in her quest to inspire the next generation of makers.

She began working with the 3D Digital Design & Manufacturing program in 2013 as the Career Coach. Alethia has defined the program’s identity by working with marketing to create a brand that would appeal to a variety of people interested in 3D Printing and additive manufacturing technologies. Manager of Engineering Student Programs in the Dean’s Office at Cleveland State University’s Washkewicz College of Engineering Gregg is the Manager of Engineering Student Programs in the Dean’s Office at Cleveland State University’s Washkewicz College of Engineering, and has served in that role since 1995. Gregg oversees the College’s community outreach and recruitment efforts through its Fenn Academy program, working with 65 high schools and middle schools in a five county region in NE Ohio. Gregg also manages undergraduate student organizations and their activities.

He also supervises the college’s 12-member tutoring staff, along with a team of 10 student recruiting assistants.

Gregg obtained his bachelor’s degree in Sociology from Kent State University and has a Master of Science in Social Administration from Case Western Reserve University.

Brianna Schultz

Director of Youth Programs, WIRE-Net Brianna is a Cleveland transplant from Michigan and her passion in life is helping children and adults become the best version of themselves through education, learning and development. Currently, she is able to fulfill that passion through her daily work as the Director of Youth Programs with WIRE-Net (www.wire-net.org). In this work she helps students explore myriad opportunities within manufacturing and prepares them for success beyond high school graduation – serving as the bridge between students and manufacturers. Prior to working at WIRE-Net, Brianna served as the Program and Service Director for City Year Cleveland where she was part of a team that improved the organization’s ability to help students stay on track to high school graduation.
