Owner: Tak Shing Investment Company

Lead Designer: Brian Lee, SOM Partner

Located on a site within Central Hong Kong with a GFA limit but no height limit, the office program is elevated on a slender tree trunk-like core to enhance access to light, air, and views. The concrete ‘tree trunk’ core is the primary structural element that carries all gravity loads. The ‘braided stream’ structural concept allows for window openings in the core wall and directs structural force flows to reach the ground. From 90m to 207m above the ground, office floors are cantilevered off the central core walls via tapering post-tensioned concrete girders. A double-height club space on the top floor offers the best views of Victoria Harbour and Kowloon Island to the north and an open-air terrace facing Tai Ping Mountain to the south.

Role Included:

• Project team leader: delegated design tasks to team members

• Produced design materials including 3d modeling, renderings, physical model, diagrams

• Collaborated with structural engineers to develop tree trunk structural core with cantilevered, post-tensioned concrete floor plates.

• Prepared contract deliverables and client presentations
