LLANELLI TOWN AFC Last Tuesday came as a shock not just to me personally but to everyone who follows Welsh football. Andy has always had the full support of the club ever since he arrived and has always had 100% backing from myself. I for one and the club, have never bad mouthed Andy or gone behind his back on any decisions. Some of you will not be aware that I actually convinced Andy to stay on as manager when we returned to the Welsh Premier League and when times were hard, still believed in Andy and his staff. Even to this day, that has not changed as Andy is a very talented, motivated and driven individual, who has brought success to the club and will continue to bring success to other clubs. I would now like to personally thank Andy for everything that he has done for the club and for me personally, working closely together on a daily basis has helped me understand the needs around a football club on and off the field. I would also like to thank Simon Dyer for all of his efforts over the last few years and once again, it has been a privilege to learn from Simon with all the experience that he has. I hope that we will cross paths in the future.It is also with regret that we lose Wyn Edwards, the clubs GK coach, who has been an integral part of this club from when I set up the academy 4 years ago. I am saddened to see Wyn leave but as a volunteer like the rest of us, his work ethic, commitment and dedication to the club was second to none. I thank Wyn for everything that he has done. With last week’s activity taking place in such a short period of time, actions had to be taken for the short term plan with respect to how we adhere to FAW guidelines within Tier 2 and our application for Tier 1 football in Wales. For all of you that are not aware, the club must have first team coaches in place who hold the UEFA A licence or who are currently undertaking the UEFA A course. With this in mind and with the club coming first, I had to fill this gap for an interim period along with a a team of coaches, who will undoubtedly work tirelessly with our great players that we have at the club. It was never my intention to be in this position but it is what it is, as they say. As I said earlier, the club comes first and this is how the club moves on with the coaching staff to be announced this week. The club will not rush into making a decision on the future of the management team and therefore, we will advertise the vacant positions for the month of November and interview through December. The new management team will definitely be in place for the first game in 2020. This will give us the right amount of time to appoint the right person to our ambitious club.
LLANELLI TOWN AFC I have seen some negative press stating that the club is not ambitious. I totally refute these comments and the reasons below will state why. 4 years ago, I created an academy at our club, which is now thriving at the following age groups: U8/9/10/11/12/13/14/15/16/19’s. I and the club are more than happy with what we have provided and continue to provide for ALL children/teenagers in Carmarthenshire. The academy coaches were taken from local teams and given coach education paid for by our club. In return, the coaches used this new knowledge to coach our academy players but also players at their local clubs. The rewards would not only benefit us as the Town club but also the clubs that participate in the Carmarthenshire league. This is ambition. This year, a new academy director Jonathan Garcia, has taken over from myself and now we as a club have a link with the local college, Coleg Sir Gar. Jonathan has already had a positive impact and this year we have a new U18 side, that play in the West Wales Youth league, helping bridge the gap between U16 and U19 football. I have also had talks with the college about an education program in which 16-19 year olds who leave school with not the results that they hoped for, can start a program where they work to degree level. We are hoping for this to start September 2020. This is ambition. In 2017, the club made the decision to apply for the Tier 1 licence of which we successfully achieved. At the time, people stated that we wouldn’t and couldn’t achieve this but we did. In 2018, we entered the Welsh Premier League and although results on the field did not go our way, results off the field surely did and I along with our board and committee learnt quite a lot on a significantly short period. We as a club via the FAW held the semi final of the Welsh Youth Cup between Swansea City and Cardiff City and also the women’s cup final at Stebonheath, which all received plaudits from everyone involved in Welsh football. We did also have two Welsh U19 international v Azerbaijan of which were cancelled in September. We are seeking to hold more in the near future. This is ambition. Off the field, we have a board of directors and a president who are dedicated and committed to this club. We have a committee of volunteers including the girls in the cafe, who are always on hand on match days and between games, ensuring that operations off the field are at the highest standards possible. Although, it has been the same people who undertake most tasks in the club, the amount of people who have come forward to be on our committee this year, is a true indication of where the club is going. This is ambition. Over the next days, I will be meeting with personnel to discuss the positives that are within the club and working hard to put a structure in place that now links the academy directly to the first team. It is the clubs ambition to give local players, old and new via the academy, the opportunity to play on our superb facility at Stebonheath, maintained by Eddie Donne. This pitch is definitely one of the best grass pitches in Wales.Lastly, I thank our existing players who are stuck in the middle but are more determined than ever to work hard and embrace the challenges that lie ahead. Our players are a unique group who always go out to perform and do not make excuses when something goes against them. I along with the management team are looking forward to this new challenge, which started last Saturday and I have no doubt that these boys are going to continue to work hard and produce results as we go through this change. Thank you to all of the messages of support received so far for the players and the club and we will all continue to work tirelessly, to get everything right, on and off the field. CWMAMMAN UNITED HISTORY Cwmamman United started their history in 1976 in the Neath & District League Division 3, following the demise of Glanamman. Their first success came in Season 1980-81 when they were promoted to the Second Division. Further success came for United as they were once again promoted to Division 1 in 1983-84. It wasn’t long before Cwmamman were promoted to the Premier League in 1985-86. The demise of Glanamman, brought the rising of Cwmamman UnitedThe next few seasons were an up and down affair with relegation from the Premier being followed by promotion back to the Premier. Cwmamman were then relegated once more and didn’t return to the Premier until season 1998-99. An extraordinary season followed with the team finishing runners-up and qualifying for a play-off game against Garden Village to be played at Llandarcy. The prize was a place in the Welsh League but it was a day for Village who ran out 3-0 extra time. It was not to be too long though for Cwmamman’s moment of glory as they finally won the Neath Premier Division in season 2001-02. It was a proud day as a Paul Jones goal beat Cilfrew. Cwmamman United would be entering the Welsh League for the first time ready for 2002-03The club would consolidate over the next few years, going close on two occasions to promotion. However the bubble would burst in the cruelest fashion as Cwmamman were relegated from the Welsh League in season 201011 after finishing 4th from bottom, relegated due to the restructure of the Welsh League. Two years were to follow back in the Neath League, until Cwmamman finished Runners-Up, with a 9-0 home win against Resolven and were the only team to apply for promotion to the Welsh League. It was to be a heart breaking reunion though as Cwmamman missed out at the end of their return for promotion to Division Two, losing to Risca United, a draw would have been enough as Dai Brown failed to convert to retaken penalty.The following season Cwmamman would get their rewards through, finishing runners up to Llanelli. While Season 2016-17 was an incredible season for the Club, the first team gaining the third promotion place to create history for the Club and take their place in the Welsh League Division 1, Aberbargoed beaten 3-0. Last season the club finished in its highest ever finish in Welsh Football, 6th in Division One.

LLANELLI TOWN AFC History The game of Association Football was introduced to the town’s people of Llanelly when workers from the Staffordshire area of England migrated to the town to work in the ‘newest’ of the town industries - the Pottery works from 1892 to 1920. The club initially played in the Swansea & District League playing their first matches at Cae Blake, Furnace, then the Peoples Park before moving to Tunnel Road and then at Penyfan Fields. In 1912-13 the club decided to become fully professional and applied for membership of both the Southern and Welsh League. They also moved to a new ground, Halfway Park, a former Cycle Stadium, which was situated two miles from the town centre. Their first season 1912-13 was an immediate success finishing in sixth position in the Southern League and third in the Welsh League. The following season they entered into the Welsh Cup and reached the final at their first attempt before losing to Wrexham in a replay at Oswestry after the team had initially drawn 0-0 at Swansea Town Vetch Field. After the First World War the club continued to participate in the Southern League and in the Welsh League with moderate success. They had ambitions of reaching the Football League and as a first step they moved to a new ground in Stebonheath in 1922 Tottenham Hotspur were the FA Cup winners of the previous season were invited to make the occasion of opening the new ground by playing the local team and the Londoners were given a rude awakening when they lost 2-1 on the day. For the next three years Llanelli built up a reputation of being one of the leading non-league clubs in the country, and in 1925 become the only club to contest every round in the FA Cup from Preliminary to Qualifying rounds and on to the equivalent Third Round of today when they met Fulham at Craven Cottage before losing by the odd goal in a highly emotional game. At the end of World War II with league football returning back to normality, Llanelly AFC in common with other Welsh clubs returned to the Welsh League fold and again gained a place in the Southern League succeeding Colchester United who had gained a place in the Football League. This was another venture into a league blessed with exFootball League players coming to the end of their careers. The manager of the time long servant Jack Goldsborough who had been a fixture in Stebo circles since 1923 as a player, trainer, coach, groundsman and secretary/manager assembled a team blessed in the main by ex Scottish League players including one John (Jock) Stein who was to find fame with Glasgow Celtic and Scotland in a managerial capacity after his playing days were over, but had made history in the FA Cup with the Reds in 50-51, before the club lost to Bristol Rovers after a 2nd replay at Ninian Park. Even he and a succession of worthy managers could not prevent the indifferent seasons the club suffered which meant a lack of people through the turnstiles and by 1958 they had to seek re-election to both Southern and Welsh Leagues. They were granted a stay in the Southern League whilst had to be relegated in the Welsh League Division II (West). But worse was to follow when the Welsh FA refused to sanction their stay in the Southern League.Llanelli were left in limbo with an all time low for their future for the 1958-59 season.
But under the astute managership of Wilf Grant an England B International, promotion was gained to Division One of the Welsh League. But when Wilf Grant went on to other climes Doug Wallace and Des Palmer became managers in succession without gaining honours. For the 1967-68 season brought Gwyn Grant (who had been a backroom boy for years after a playing career) to the hot seat and his achievements were noteworthy. Three Welsh League Championship titles in 1970-71, 1976-77 and 1977-78 inspired by Gilbert Lloyd followed, but the club’s ambitions of a higher grade of football were always denied. With the advent of the League of Wales in 1992-93 season when they became founder members. After an initial successful season the club fell away once more, and again due to financial constraints they were relegated in season 1995-96. However, the advent of Robert Jones to the club as owner and Chairman saw the club take on a new lease of life. First Dudley Lewis as player/manager set the seeds in motion and Robbie James took over in consecutive years but in February 1988 Robbie James tragically died at Stebonheath playing against Porthcawl. His place was taken over by Leighton James who gained promotion for the club once more to the League of Wales by virtue of their ending as runners-up to Champions Ton Pentre who had declined promotion. After one season when the club ended in a creditable fifth position he suddenly resigned and it all turned sour by 2002-03 when the club was relegated to the Welsh Division 1 once more. In season 2003-04 saw the club regain their rightful place in the Welsh Premier League under the management of ex/players of yester year Neil O’Brien and Lee Randall. Season 2004-05 saw firstly Eddie May followed by Nick Tucker took over the helm and he managed to stave off relegation at the end of the season. During the close season the club which had been ‘up for sale’ was taken over by the Jesco Group, who decided that the club needed to turn fully professional once again after half a century of lack lustre competition except for the Welsh League Championships of 1970-71, 76-77, 77-78 seasons. Spaniard Luca Cazorla become Director of Football and six Spanish players arrived at Stebonheath Park. But by Christmas something was adrift and Luca Cazorla left by mutual agreement with Peter Nicholas assuming control, achieving for the club for the first time in their history a position in the UEFA Cup after gaining 2nd spot. The following season 2007- 08 was one of success becoming League Champions and winning the League Cup. In season 2008-09 their Championship hopes were high but they ended in the runners up spot the biggest shock was to come before the season’s end when the tenure of Peter Nicholas was ended after five years at the helm, his contract was not renewed and Andy Legg was appointed to the ‘hot seat’. Season 2010-11 Legg saw his Reds side lift the coveted Welsh Cup with an emphatic 4-1 win against League Champions Bangor City at Parc y Scarlets and won the play-offs in 2011-12 beating Bala 2-1 in the final. This proved the last game for prolific striker Rhys Griffiths, who had scored 280 goals in 281 games. The club has also enjoyed extraordinary success on the European frontnbeating Gefle, FK Vetra, Ventspils, Motherwell and Dinamo Tbilisi, although only the win against Gefle saw the club progress over two legs. Season 2012-13, started with the club coming agonisinlgy close to reaching the second round of the Europa Cup, losing 3-2 to Kups. Financial trouble then hit, with Andy Legg leaving in October 2012 and Bob Jeffrey taking over in a vast cost cutting exercise. However the club was unable to stave off HMRC and were sadly liquated in the High Court in London on 22nd April 2013, before reforming as Llanelli Town AFC this summer and joining Welsh League Division Three for season 2013-14. In the 2013-14 season, Llanelli Town finished 6th in Welsh League Div. 3, the following season they finished as Champions being promoted to Division 2 for season 2015-16 which they finished 7th. For the 2016-17 season Andy Hill returned to the club as Manager and they won the double Div 2 and League Cup winners. 2017-18 they won the Div. 1 Championship which saw them promoted to the Welsh Premier League for the 2018-19 which unfortunately they finished bottom of the league and were relegated back to the new Cymru South League for the 2019-20 season.

Match Report SWANSEA UNIVERSITY 3 LLANELLI TOWN 2 All the old clichés “a game of two halves”, “defeat snatched from the jaws of victory”, were never more apt than on the occasion of the Reds` visit to their high-flying opponents, particularly fielding a patched-up starting eleven due to suspension, injuries and holidays.Without Lee Bevan, Joe Clarke, James Loveridge and Jordan Davies, they were forced to reshuffle their line-up, although they did welcome back Chris Thomas and Anthony Finselbach, but were only able to name three academy youngsters on the bench. Despite these shortcomings, they took the contest to the home side from the outset, with an early goal-bound attempt by Nathan Logan being blocked by a defender.They continued to stroke the ball around to good effect, although they had Scott Coughlan to thank for diverting a well struck shot by Thomas Johnston around for a corner.The visitors went agonisingly close to opening the scoring when Logan laid a pass into the path of Zac Brown whose lofted attempt beat Luke Martin in the home goal but rebounded off the inside of the upright to safety.Coughlan saved again when Arion Sobers-Assue unleashed a powerful free kick on target, before the Reds deservedly took the lead on 22 minutes through Logan who seized possession just inside home territory before making ground and beating Martin with a crisp finish into the bottom corner .Liam Samuel was the next to go close, forcing Martin to turn over his shot from distance, and at this stage the Reds were looking capable of extending the advantage which they did five minutes from the break with Logan again the beneficiary, collecting an under-hit pass meant for Martin before chipping his finish over him into an empty net.Full value for their lead, the second period proved to be far tougher for the visitors, with the home side obviously geared up for a comeback, with Coughlan being called into action to just boot clear from Levi Houapeu when he was played through the middle.As the half progressed, the Reds were visibly flagging with their opponents now firmly in charge of proceedings, and after a series of near misses, it came as little surprise when the deficit was reduced on 66 minutes through a great strike by William Toms who unleashed an unstoppable finish into the top corner. Ten minutes from time, he repeated his effort with an equally impressive goal, again giving Coughlan no chance with another searing rocket.With the contest now back on level terms, the visitors best hope would be that they could cling on for at least a point, but even that was snatched away from them in stoppage time when fatal hesitation by Coughlan to a ball lofted into the six yard area allowed Sobers-Assue to reach it first and direct his header into the net to seal the comeback and maximum points.

The main aim of the supporters club is to raise funds for the football club. Last season we were able to help the football club in a number of areas to the total of just over £5500. The committee worked hard to raise this money in a number of ways. This season we will be trying to help the football club in any way it asks us too. We use the money raised from the Golden Goal before the home games and football scratchcard after the game plus membership fees and profits from merchandise sales to do this. We will also be holding fund raising events this season, details of which will be released soon. Membership fees for this season are £5. You can also purchase a loyalty card from Stebonheath Sports Bar for £5. A percentage of every £1 you spend (on non match days) will be given straight to the supporters club.
