Good evening and welcome to Stebonheath Park for our 6th game of this season in the Cymru South league. Our last game was a difficult one in terms of the playing surface and the fact that everyone outside of the club, writes off Caerau Ely before the game starts. Andy, his management and the players did not do so and Caerau Ely did not play to the position they ae in the league. It was a difficult afternoon but our super sub Ryan Hurlow came on and equalised and then scored the winner in the last minute. What a result and credit to all the players who kept knocking on the door, or woodwork to be precise. Our academy teams have started playing and it would be great to see some of you at these games, showing your support for the young reds. Each home game, the academy players will walk alongside our players when entering the field of play, demonstrating that we are one family and not individual teams. If we instil this into young players now, then the future of this club will be in safe hands. We as a club have reached out to the Carmarthenshire league to work as a “Joint Venture” to help the teams who participate in the league. This could be by providing free education for coaches at grassroots via our club, helping coaches on their coaching career and improving the level of youngsters in our area. As Head of Coaching, I will drive this with Jonathan Garcia and my assistant Simon Thomas, who himself is starting community initiatives for children who can’t afford to play football in our community. Football should be for everyone and as cheap as possible, a vision that I have had for several years. One day it will be a reality! A big thank you to all of you who come out to support us each week especially those that travel away with us and I welcome all of our supporters, new and old here tonight. It’s great to have a little atmosphere at the games with the flags flying high, drums beating and the chanting that can be heard throughout the streets around Stebonheath. LLANELLI TOWN AFC MESSAGE FROM THE MANAGER Hello and welcome to Stebonheath for tonight’s top of the table fixture against the impressive Cambrian & Clydach, Cambrian can boast a 100% record so far this season with 5 out of 5 wins so that just underlines the job in hand for us in tonight l’s game. We have picked up a couple of injuries this week with Jordan Davies injuring is calf in last weeks win and Ross Jones getting injured in a tackle in training on Tuesday night, both of will have fitness test before the game so fingers crossed they pull through. On a more positive note James Loveridge and Scott Smith are back form holidays and will go straight back into the squad for tonight’s game. Tonight’s game is the 1st top of the table clash this season and the most important thing in big games is not to get beaten, 13 points out of 15 is a great start but we’ll be trying to make it 16 out of 18 tonight and be top of the table come 9.20pm, to do that we have to cut out individual errors which all of our goals against this season have come about, we have the fire power to deal with anyone but we have to tighten up at the back which is something we’ve been working on in training. Tonight’s game is the start of a tough run of games starting with Cambrian, then STM Sports followed by Cwmbran Celtic so it’s important to have your support throughout this time, hope you enjoy the game and keep believing. Cambrian Clydach HISTORY
Cambrian United was formed in 1965, taking its name from the local colliery. After success in the Rhondda & District League, the club was elected to the South Wales Corinthian League in 1972. They won the second division championship at the first attempt and followed up the following season by winning the Corinthian Cup with a 5-2 extra time victory over Cardiff Corries. In season 1977-78 the side were runners up in the first division losing out on goal difference to near neighbours Ton and Gelli. In 1980, the club joined with the very successful Clydach Vale Boys and Girls Club seniors but the merger was a spectacular failure and almost led to the club losing its Amateur League status after a number of poor seasons during the decade. The 1990’s saw the rebuilding process begin and the second division title was won for the second time in 1992. In 1994, manager Neil Foulkes joined the club and celebrated by winning the Corinthian cup a season later. In 1996-97, the club had a terrific year winning the FAW Trophy by defeating Rhyl Delta 2-1 at Jenner Park and won a second successive Corinthian Cup beating Cardiff Civil Service 4-2. In addition, they were league runners up to Ely Rangers. There then followed a run of four more runners up spots in six years and another Corinthian Cup triumph, this time by a 4-1 margin against Llantwit Fardre, before the Championship was finally won in 2004/5. In 2000, the club had re-merged with the Boys and Girls Club. The club is also very active off the pitch working closely with the local Village Trust to develop facilities in the area. Two full time soccer coaches are employed to work with local schools and major improvements have taken place at the ground. An all weather, floodlit astroturf area has been built at a cost of £116,000 and a clubhouse facility opened in October 2005 after the club and the Trust successfully generated the £130,000 required. Floodlighting on the ground was completed at the start of August 2007. The Club entered the Welsh League for the first time in season 2005/6 and a very successful year ended with the Third Division Championship being won after close rivals West End had been deducted three points. Season 2006/7 turned out to be even more memorable as promotion was gained to the top division of the Welsh League with a second placed finish behind champions Garw. In addition the Youth side won the MacWhirter Cup defeating Pontardawe Town 5-2 in the final as well as finishing runners up in their division. In the 2007/8 season, the clubs first ever in Division One began with an incredible 5 straight wins and although the small squad could not sustain this long term, a creditable ninth place was achieved. The club also embarked on a new venture, taking over and forming the new RCT UEFA Academy programme. This has gone from strength to strength over the past few seasons and the club now runs age groups from 7 through to 19 at elite level. A major change also took place on the Management Committee in 2008, with former England Manager Terry Venables agreeing to become chairman of the club. Terry was already Patron of the highly successful Cambrian Village Trust and has close links with Clydach Vale, where his mother was born. Last season after challenging for the title over the last few seasons Cambrian & Clydach became champions of the Welsh League for the first time in its history

LLANELLI TOWN AFC History The game of Association Football was introduced to the town’s people of Llanelly when workers from the Staffordshire area of England migrated to the town to work in the ‘newest’ of the town industries - the Pottery works from 1892 to 1920. The club initially played in the Swansea & District League playing their first matches at Cae Blake, Furnace, then the Peoples Park before moving to Tunnel Road and then at Penyfan Fields. In 1912-13 the club decided to become fully professional and applied for membership of both the Southern and Welsh League. They also moved to a new ground, Halfway Park, a former Cycle Stadium, which was situated two miles from the town centre. Their first season 1912-13 was an immediate success finishing in sixth position in the Southern League and third in the Welsh League. The following season they entered into the Welsh Cup and reached the final at their first attempt before losing to Wrexham in a replay at Oswestry after the team had initially drawn 0-0 at Swansea Town Vetch Field. After the First World War the club continued to participate in the Southern League and in the Welsh League with moderate success. They had ambitions of reaching the Football League and as a first step they moved to a new ground in Stebonheath in 1922 Tottenham Hotspur were the FA Cup winners of the previous season were invited to make the occasion of opening the new ground by playing the local team and the Londoners were given a rude awakening when they lost 2-1 on the day. For the next three years Llanelli built up a reputation of being one of the leading non-league clubs in the country, and in 1925 become the only club to contest every round in the FA Cup from Preliminary to Qualifying rounds and on to the equivalent Third Round of today when they met Fulham at Craven Cottage before losing by the odd goal in a highly emotional game. At the end of World War II with league football returning back to normality, Llanelly AFC in common with other Welsh clubs returned to the Welsh League fold and again gained a place in the Southern League succeeding Colchester United who had gained a place in the Football League. This was another venture into a league blessed with exFootball League players coming to the end of their careers. The manager of the time long servant Jack Goldsborough who had been a fixture in Stebo circles since 1923 as a player, trainer, coach, groundsman and secretary/manager assembled a team blessed in the main by ex Scottish League players including one John (Jock) Stein who was to find fame with Glasgow Celtic and Scotland in a managerial capacity after his playing days were over, but had made history in the FA Cup with the Reds in 50-51, before the club lost to Bristol Rovers after a 2nd replay at Ninian Park. Even he and a succession of worthy managers could not prevent the indifferent seasons the club suffered which meant a lack of people through the turnstiles and by 1958 they had to seek re-election to both Southern and Welsh Leagues. They were granted a stay in the Southern League whilst had to be relegated in the Welsh League Division II (West). But worse was to follow when the Welsh FA refused to sanction their stay in the Southern League.Llanelli were left in limbo with an all time low for their future for the 1958-59 season.
But under the astute managership of Wilf Grant an England B International, promotion was gained to Division One of the Welsh League. But when Wilf Grant went on to other climes Doug Wallace and Des Palmer became managers in succession without gaining honours. For the 1967-68 season brought Gwyn Grant (who had been a backroom boy for years after a playing career) to the hot seat and his achievements were noteworthy. Three Welsh League Championship titles in 1970-71, 1976-77 and 1977-78 inspired by Gilbert Lloyd followed, but the club’s ambitions of a higher grade of football were always denied. With the advent of the League of Wales in 1992-93 season when they became founder members. After an initial successful season the club fell away once more, and again due to financial constraints they were relegated in season 1995-96. However, the advent of Robert Jones to the club as owner and Chairman saw the club take on a new lease of life. First Dudley Lewis as player/manager set the seeds in motion and Robbie James took over in consecutive years but in February 1988 Robbie James tragically died at Stebonheath playing against Porthcawl. His place was taken over by Leighton James who gained promotion for the club once more to the League of Wales by virtue of their ending as runners-up to Champions Ton Pentre who had declined promotion. After one season when the club ended in a creditable fifth position he suddenly resigned and it all turned sour by 2002-03 when the club was relegated to the Welsh Division 1 once more. In season 2003-04 saw the club regain their rightful place in the Welsh Premier League under the management of ex/players of yester year Neil O’Brien and Lee Randall. Season 2004-05 saw firstly Eddie May followed by Nick Tucker took over the helm and he managed to stave off relegation at the end of the season. During the close season the club which had been ‘up for sale’ was taken over by the Jesco Group, who decided that the club needed to turn fully professional once again after half a century of lack lustre competition except for the Welsh League Championships of 1970-71, 76-77, 77-78 seasons. Spaniard Luca Cazorla become Director of Football and six Spanish players arrived at Stebonheath Park. But by Christmas something was adrift and Luca Cazorla left by mutual agreement with Peter Nicholas assuming control, achieving for the club for the first time in their history a position in the UEFA Cup after gaining 2nd spot. The following season 2007- 08 was one of success becoming League Champions and winning the League Cup. In season 2008-09 their Championship hopes were high but they ended in the runners up spot the biggest shock was to come before the season’s end when the tenure of Peter Nicholas was ended after five years at the helm, his contract was not renewed and Andy Legg was appointed to the ‘hot seat’. Season 2010-11 Legg saw his Reds side lift the coveted Welsh Cup with an emphatic 4-1 win against League Champions Bangor City at Parc y Scarlets and won the play-offs in 2011-12 beating Bala 2-1 in the final. This proved the last game for prolific striker Rhys Griffiths, who had scored 280 goals in 281 games. The club has also enjoyed extraordinary success on the European frontnbeating Gefle, FK Vetra, Ventspils, Motherwell and Dinamo Tbilisi, although only the win against Gefle saw the club progress over two legs. Season 2012-13, started with the club coming agonisinlgy close to reaching the second round of the Europa Cup, losing 3-2 to Kups. Financial trouble then hit, with Andy Legg leaving in October 2012 and Bob Jeffrey taking over in a vast cost cutting exercise. However the club was unable to stave off HMRC and were sadly liquated in the High Court in London on 22nd April 2013, before reforming as Llanelli Town AFC this summer and joining Welsh League Division Three for season 2013-14. In the 2013-14 season, Llanelli Town finished 6th in Welsh League Div. 3, the following season they finished as Champions being promoted to Division 2 for season 2015-16 which they finished 7th. For the 2016-17 season Andy Hill returned to the club as Manager and they won the double Div 2 and League Cup winners. 2017-18 they won the Div. 1 Championship which saw them promoted to the Welsh Premier League for the 2018-19 which unfortunately they finished bottom of the league and were relegated back to the new Cymru South League for the 2019-20 season.

Match Report CAERAU (ELY) 2 LLANELLI TOWN 3 Without a win or even a goal to show after their opening four matches, the home side at least reached one objective, due mainly to defensive errors by their opponents, and had it not been for an injury time winner, could have chalked up their first points of the season. Reds` manager, Andy Hill, must be concerned at the way his side is gifting goals, with seasoned defenders committing schoolboy errors which are costing them dearly. The latest outing was a case in point, with a misplaced back pass in the first half and a goalkeeping misjudgment in the second handing the hosts opportunities which they eagerly accepted. The visitors have ridden their luck in their previous matches, but are still unbeaten, with the old adage that if a team is not playing well but still winning, something is going right, but perhaps all too soon that bubble will burst and they will be on the end of a heavy defeat. Currently occupying second place in the table, they will certainly have their work cut out at Stebonheath on Friday evening with the visit of league leaders, Cambrian & Clydach, and will hopefully up their game and strive for the win which would see them leapfrog their opponents into the top spot.The poor playing surface did little to enhance the overall quality by both sides, who struggled to string together any telling passages of play, and chances at either end were at a premium. Ross Jones did strike the upper part of the home upright when a Peter Smith free kick was headed into his path, but this was about the closest effort from both sides. Far from being a classic, the Reds were however looking the more likely of breaking the deadlock, and did just that on 23 minutes following a run by Smith up the right and whose final delivery found its way to Nathan Logan, and he in turn played a ball into Tim Parker in the box who executed a sharp swivel before sending his finish low past Elliott Matthews in the home goal.
The lead lasted just ten minutes, as the home side recorded their first goal of the season courtesy of some inept defending which led to Rameer Outlaw being gifted possession from an intended ball back to Scott Coughlan, and he made ground before squaring a pass into the middle where David Lyons was waiting to turn his finish into a gaping net with Coughlan helpless. Appeals for a penalty against a potential handball by Jake Parry for the hosts were waved away by referee Jordan Harman when the ball was directed into the area, while at the other end following a Smith corner, Lee Bevan connected at the far post but blasted his finish over the top from a decent position. With the sides level at the start of the second period, it took Caerau only three minutes after the restart to take a shock lead, and once again some catastrophic defending led to the goal. A hopeful clearance bounced high into the air just outside the Reds` area, leading to Coughlan coming off his line in an attempt to keep it out, but it bounced over him and the ball headed towards the vacant goal with Outlaw in pursuit to make sure it crossed the line despite the efforts of Parry to hack it clear. Stung by this reverse, the visitors made a double change, with Logan and Zac Brown being replaced by Kyle Copp and Ryan Hurlow after 55 minutes, and this proved to be an inspired move as the latter levelled matters just three minutes into his introduction, lofting a high looping cross into the home goalmouth which seemed to deceive Matthews before nestling in the bottom corner. Anthony Finselbach came on in place of Jordan Davies who had suffered a leg injury on 66 minutes, before the home side were reduced to ten men after 69 minutes with a straight red card being shown to Lyons for remarks made to an assistant which he drew to the attention of the referee. The visitors pressed home their numerical advantage for the remainder of the contest with Parry going close with his header when he connected with a Smith corner, while Copp struck the post from his free kick. With the match well into stoppage time, Hurlow again came up trumps by netting the winner, when the ball found its way to him from a corner wide on the left, and he finished well, driving his shot past the keeper to secure the three points.

The main aim of the supporters club is to raise funds for the football club. Last season we were able to help the football club in a number of areas to the total of just over £5500. The committee worked hard to raise this money in a number of ways. This season we will be trying to help the football club in any way it asks us too. We use the money raised from the Golden Goal before the home games and football scratchcard after the game plus membership fees and profits from merchandise sales to do this. We will also be holding fund raising events this season, details of which will be released soon. Membership fees for this season are £5. You can also purchase a loyalty card from Stebonheath Sports Bar for £5. A percentage of every £1 you spend (on non match days) will be given straight to the supporters club.
