Our Team
William Scott Contracts, one of the largest painting and roofing companies in the Eastern Cape, employs over 150 staff. We invest in staff development through specialised training in areas like industrial spray painting and working at heights, ensuring our teams are certified and highly experienced.
William Scott Contracts is led by Cameron Scott (MD), son of the founders, William and Myra Scott. Cameron’s sons, Andrew, Duncan, and Justin, have been involved in the third-generation family business since 2007, following the passing of their grandfather, William, at the age of 95.
No business stands for 75 years without being exceptional at what they do.
Our History
William Scott Painters was established in Port Elizabeth in 1948 by William Scott and his wife, Myra. The couple had settled in Port Elizabeth in 1937 after moving from Aberdeen, Scotland.
William began his career in the painting and decorating industry at the age of 14, after completing his schooling in 1926. During his apprenticeship, he displayed exceptional talent, particularly in wallpapering, textures, glazing, graining, and fancy finishes—all popular techniques at the time. It was also during this period that he met Myra.
Seeking a better quality of life and more opportunities, the couple moved to Port Elizabeth, South Africa, in 1937. William initially found employment with Charles Heyns, and after gaining experience, he and Myra founded William Scott Painters in 1948. They operated from a single-room office at the bottom of Albany Road, with Myra managing administrative tasks on a typewriter perched on a milk crate, while William handled the painting and roofing work.
Since then, William Scott Painters has grown into a successful and diversified company, offering expertise in painting, roofing, reroofing, waterproofing, shot blasting, spalling, epoxy flooring, and industrial property development.
