ABOUT ME

Hello, my name is Payton Williams, and I’m currently a student in the Architecture program at the University of Oklahoma. Originally from Norman, Oklahoma, I graduated from Norman High School in 2022. Choosing to stay in-state for college felt like a natural decision, allowing me to remain close to the community I’ve always known.

When deciding on my major I was always interested in design and the building process. The ability of architects to transform their ideas into tangible, functional spaces is very inspiring. I was drawn to this career because it combines creativity with a dynamic work environment, allowing one’s personality and vision to shine through.

Outside of my studies, I love spending time outdoors and enjoying activities with friends and family. I enjoy things like playing pickleball, fishing, going to the gym, exploring new workout classes, watching movies, and trying out new restaurants. Whether in the classroom or out, I thrive on being around people and embracing new experiences. Moving forward I’m excited about the journey ahead and eager to learn and grow along the way.

LAND VESSELS

FALL 2022 - DESIGN l

In Design l, we were tasked with researching and creating analytical drawings for one of structures provided to us. The structures given were all built into the landscape and acted as a continuation of the site surrounding it. While researching I became fascinated in the Ochoquebradas house by Ryue Nishizawa. Ochoquebradas lies on the coast of Chile, and does an amazing job of achieving harmony of the landscape through the use of curves and freeforms. By conducting these analytical drawings us students were able to improve our drafting techinques and better understand architectcural drawings.

RENEGADE STUDIOS

SPRING 2023 - DESIGN l

In this project we were tasked with creating two studios for artists that included temporary living spaces. The studios would be situated on the site of Herb Green’s Prairie House. Which was a challange in seeinghow two occupants would live alongside one another and still feel connected to their enivornment. Renegade Studios taught us students a lot about our own design process and how to formally take our creative ideas and turn them into habitable spaces.

BLER BUILDING & LANDSCAPE FOR ECOLOGICAL REGENERATION

FALL 2023 - DESIGN ll

Going with the theme of the semester we were tasked with considering how alonside other species. The project looked at how the creation of spaces can benefit humans and other living creatures in the surrounding environment. When going through the design process we looked at things such as program, tectonics, and spatial qualities very closely. By doing so us students hoped to create a building that worked well with its exisiting environment.

CAPITOL HILL RESTORATION PROJECT

SPRING 2024 - DESIGN ll

For this project we were tasked with building on a set of our chosen programs to the pre-exisiting Knob Hill Theater. The famous theater and chosen site lies in the Capitol Hill district in Oklahoma City. Our challange was to design an additon to the theater that not only respected the existing theater but added something to the community. The project taught us students about community engagement and how it’s important to balance our creativity with the needs of the people.
