LAND VESSELS

Studio III Fall 2022

INSTRUCTOR:Tamar Zinguer

A vessel, like a ship or an aircraft, is a protective shelter that is well calibrated and balances forces from outside and from within. The houses we will analyze are such vessels, mediating between the human bodies they carry and protect, and the terrestrial and atmospheric forces that act from the outside. We will investigate this calibration of forces – what dynamic forces influence the house from within human activity and movement, as well as from without – the topography of the land and the weather.

EXTREME WEATHER & WEATHER PAVILION

Studio II Spring 2023

INSTRUCTOR:TAMAR ZINGUER

Extreme Weather : In this opening project we will explore other important forces—extreme weather conditionsthat impact our spaces and our lives. Changing atmospheric conditions surround our living spaces and impact them. However transient and shifting, those conditions of air, wind, vapor, water, and snow affect our behavior, our sight, our moods, our well-being, and our sense of safety. In extreme situations, the weather could also threaten our lives. In this project we will acknowledge these important factors; we will study and represent them in clear visual form.

Weather Pavilion: While studying and representing our extreme weather system, you’ve probably come to realize that the atmosphere that surrounds us is just as meaningful when describing a site as the ground we stand on. In this next exercise, rather than designing a place to shelter from the storm, you will invite the weather in. To shelter means to shield from danger. Here, on the contrary, you will embrace the storm. You will design a small space and will imagine your specific storm system “breathing life” into the space, infusing it with its very specific character.

RENEGADE STUDIOS

Studio II Spring 2023

INSTRUCTOR:TAMAR ZINGUER

For our Renegade Studio project we were tasked to design a studio for two artists of anykind. The building will need to accommodate the needs of the two artist and the design of the building needed to complement the Prairie House.

BUG HABITAT

Studio III Fall 2023

INSTRUCTOR:ANDREW STONE

Document and analyze the relationship between an insect and its environment in order to develop an understanding of how distinct and specialized parts make up a whole. After researching the insect’s daily activities, movements and relationship to their ecosystem, we will now use these findings to envision a new type ofhabitat for the insect that recombines the formal, spatial and programmatic conclusions into a uniqueconstruct.

Building & Landscape for Ecological Regeneration

Studio III Fall 2023

INSTRUCTOR:ANDREW STONE

We live at a time where developing intra-species habitats is critical. In the midst of the looming climate crisis, we need to build a more sustainable world. Complete ecosystems that have been destroyed need to be built back. Complete ecosystems that exist need to be protected. Given human technology, culture and density – building for future ecosystems will likely not be restricted to rebuilding past ecosystems. We need to imagine a future where human culture and society can thrive alongside other species

ETERNAL STEPS

Studio IV Spring 2024

INSTRUCTOR: Dayton Clark/Rene Peralta

In the beginning of the project we were assigned to watch a film and study the cinematography and narrative strategies within the movie. The movie I focused on was Blade Runner 2049 and from the sequence of frames, I noticed that the movie primarily focused on light and dark spaces and coloring. In the movie, they would always have a dark central background surrounded by yellow light. The map reminded me of one specific frame which was of an android like human lying motionless on the ground. Something about her loose and fluid body surrounded by all the rough and rigid architecture gave me inspiration for the model. Moving on to the building I still wanted to carry over my dark and rigid and light and flow concepts and integrate those concepts into the building. And I would also develop programs that would be beneficial to the community.
