Cape Peninsula University of Technology Transport, Logistics, Ports and Urban Studies Call for Applications Postdoctoral Fellowship The Transport, Logistics, Ports and Urban Studies Group in the Faculty of Informatics and Design at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT) invites applications for one postdoctoral fellowship commencing in 2026. The research group examines the relationships among urban spatial dynamics, transport networks, logistics systems and supply-chain operations. Its work supports the effective planning and management of urban environments and includes airport-centric development, city logistics, freight-related emissions, urban remote sensing and the institutional factors that influence the location of logistics facilities. The successful candidate will contribute to research on the relationship between the urban form of industrial and logistics nodes in South Africa and truck emissions. Candidates with strong experience in transport engineering, spatial analysis, modelling, geographic information systems (GIS) or closely related methods are encouraged to apply. Fellowship Details:
• Duration: Twelve (12) months, subject to funding availability and institutional approval. • Stipend: R250 000. The fellowship stipend is intended to be treated as a tax-exempt bursary, subject to applicable South African tax legislation.
• Location: Faculty of Informatics and Design, Cape Peninsula University of Technology, District Six Campus. • Starting date: As soon as possible following institutional approval. Eligibility:
• Applicants must have obtained a doctoral degree in transport engineering or a closely
related field within the five years preceding the date of appointment, in accordance with the CPUT policy governing postdoctoral fellowships. • Applicants must demonstrate expertise in transport engineering, spatial analysis, modelling and GIS or related information systems. • Fellows must devote their full professional attention to the fellowship and may not hold concurrent paid full-time employment. • This is a full-time postdoctoral fellowship and does not constitute employment at CPUT. Research Focus: The fellowship will focus on the spatial relationship between industrial and logistics nodes, urban form and truck emissions in South Africa. The work may draw on transport engineering, spatial analysis, modelling, GIS and related information systems. Research Expectations: The successful fellow will be expected to:
