WHAT YOU NEED
Minimum Admission Requirements
National Senior Certificate (Grade 12) with:
• English, Home Language or First Additional Language (4)
• Mathematics (4), (ECP: 3); or Mathematical Literacy (6) (ECP: 5); or Technical Mathematics (5) (ECP: 4)
Recommended:
• Engineering and Graphic Design
• Computer Applications Technology and/or
• Design- /Art-related subjects
The department utilises an Admission Point Score (APS) as selection criteria once your minimum admission requirements are satisfied. You have to score the following on the APS: Diploma: A minimum of 30 with Mathematics and 32 with Mathematical Literacy; Extended Curriculum Programme (ECP): A minimum of 26 with Mathematics and 28 with Mathematical Literacy.
Additional Admission Requirements
You may be required to submit a portfolio of artwork, per the specifications of the Department. Should this be the case, the Department will be in contact with the respective applicant.

ECP: The Extended Curriculum Programme (ECP) is for prospective students who do not meet the minimum admission requirements for the mainstream programme. The ECP is an enriched full-year programme, bringing students up to speed to confidently succeed in the mainstream years. The subjects are as per the first-year listed here.
Your on-the-job training
will be completed during your third year of study at a reputable architectural practice that is registered with the South African Council for the Architectural Professions (SACAP).

Advanced Diploma: Architectural Technology
After completing the Advanced Diploma: Architectural Technology, students can continue their studies by pursuing a Postgraduate Diploma in Applied Design, a multi- and trans-disciplinary NQF Level 8 qualification.

Future career
Professional registration: Once you’ve graduated, you can apply to the South African Council for the Architectural Professions (SACAP), for registration as a Candidate Architectural Technologist.
