HP Unveils Graphics Solutions Centre of Excellence and Expanded Ink Facility The new facility is the only manufacturing, training and demo centre of its kind that aims to be a comprehensive, one-stop shop for HP customers. Sha Jumari reports. time here to test out the machines and applications,” said Roy Eitan, director and general manager for HP Indigo solutions for Asia Pacific and Japan.

“We have demo centres all over the world, but they tend to be pinpointed to a certain application, such as just signs and display. This facility has all of HP’s applications under one roof, so customers can gather ideas from all over the world and even see how these applications work in real life,” Eitan added.

On 3 September 2014, HP opened the doors to its new Graphics Solutions Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Tuas, Singapore, to customers, partners and members of the media. In addtion, HP revealed the expansion of it ink manufacturing plant.

Customers, including brands, agencies and print buyers, can expect the complete graphics arts portfolio and partner solutions – all under one roof. The 21,000 square metre facility aims to be a one-stop shop for customers to have access to all of HP’s digital printing solutions and applications. The centre is the only HP facility, outside of Israel, to be both a manufacturing, training and demo centre.

photobooks, so customers are exposed to a spectrum of ideas.

Investing in a centre in Singapore thus came as an easy decision.

The multi-million dollar CoE will enable print companies to conduct end-to-end application demonstration of HP digital printing equipment. All of HP’s digital printing machines, including the HP Indigo Digital Presses, HP Scitex Industrial Presses, HP Latex and HP Designjet Printers, will be housed in the CoE.

“Historically, Asia has been an extremely important market for us.

We’ve been here since ’92, and the first HP Indigo was installed in Japan,” said Alon Bar-Shany, vice president and general manager, Indigo division, HP.

The facility signified the importance of the Asia Pacific region for HP. In terms of business and growth, the region presents a very significant market.

“It is a double digit number of growth and business that we see in Asia.

China forms the second largest pool of customers, the first being the US,” BarShany continued. “We have thousands of customers in the Asia Pacific, with over 100 units of HP Indigos installed

in China, Japan, Australia and New Zealand, India and Korea. Indonesia has also recently passed that mark.”

A training centre also forms part of the facility. The centre is staffed by 11 training and ramp-up specialists, who can provide hands-on learning and train more than 350 operators, engineers and production managers each year. The facility will also create employment opportunities in Singapore with more than 100 employees projected to be added in the next five years.

Along with the launch, the centre also expanded its ink manufacturing facility. The expansion further supports worldwide Indigo ink volume production from its current ink series to a new generation of inks for the HP Indigo 10000, 20000 and 30000 digital presses. The ink manufacturing arm is scheduled to open in 2015.

HP added that substrate testing and certification capabilities will be built into the plant to enable substrate manufacturers, suppliers and HP Indigo press owners worldwide to evaluate substrate compatibility with HP Indigo digital presses. The only other facility with such capabilities is located in the US.

A Label is a Complex Technical Construction by FINAT Delivering a ‘label’ is not just a matter of printing it. It involves a complex value chain that also spans the material to be printed and the machinery to apply it – whatever the technology employed.

The ‘battle of decoration technologies’ was the focus for an expert panel of suppliers who came together at the annual congress of the label industry’s international association, FINAT, to debate the challenges and opportunities. Their discussions provided valuable insights that set the context for improved communication between brand-owning end users and their ‘label’ suppliers – including printers.

Representatives from key – and different -- aspects of today’s industry supply chain formed the discussion panel. They were Stefan Richter (D), Krones, leading manufacturers of advanced process, filling, and packaging equipment – including different label application systems; Geert-Jan Kolkhuis Tanke (NL), Avery Dennison, representing a leading global supplier of label materials, both paper and film, particularly for selfadhesive labels; and Raul Matos (USA), founder of Karlville Development LLC, global leaders in shrink sleeve converting and application equipment as well as pouch converting.

The opportunity to cross-question suppliers was enthusiastically embraced by the congress delegates, who were encouraged prior to the debate to submit questions to moderator Marc Büttgenbach – himself worldwide sales director for labels and consumables for Bizerba, worldwide providers of a wide-ranging portfolio of hardware

and software products, particularly in the food arena.

Which technology?

‘Why would a brand owner choose any particular labelling technology for a product?’, Mr Büttgenbach asked. For shrink sleeves, Karlville’s Raul Matos said that it is the ‘ability to label different shapes and sizes of container. Sleeves on smaller singleserve bottles are economically-viable’, he said. The choice driver for selfadhesive labels, said Avery Dennison’s Geert-Jan Kolkhuis Tanke, would be ‘the huge selection of materials and products available to meet every price requirement – and changing with innovation, as with other technologies.’

In fact, the panel agreed, we are living in a multi-technology society – and a society where the materials employed will work with both conventional and digital presses. ‘Krones today make multi- technology labelling machines’, said Stefan Richter, reviewing current trends. ‘While wet-glue labelling is declining,’ he added, ‘it is still only possible to achieve the “no-label look” with self-adhesives.’

Ever-changing demands Indeed, the demands of a ‘label’ are ever-changing – not just in response to brand owners’ marketing and promotional needs, such as QR codes, but – particularly today -- in response to legislative requirements for expanded label content. The resultant

for greater label space, and bigger labels, is certainly challenging brand owners and the label supply chain.

In this respect, Avery Dennison’s Geert-Jan Kolkhuis Tanke drew attention to the value of leaflet labels, which he described as ‘applying labels to labels’, and which have been a successful feature of self-adhesive labelling – particularly in the field of pharmaceuticals -- for many years now.

Expanded label content is also a topic of focus for the very distinct production characteristics of shrink sleeve labels, according to Karlville’s Raul Matos. He observed: ‘QR codes, for example, need to be placed on an area of low shrink’, he said, underlining the need to involve the whole supply chain, from the designer onwards, in creating a successful shrink sleeve.

Security and ‘smart’ data functionality Barcodes and other ‘smart’ printed data also have a role to play in product authentication and track- and-trace activities – which are only one part of the opportunities to create layered overt – visible -- and covert – invisible -- security elements in and on a selfadhesive label, as Mr Kolhuis Tanke pointed out. RFID labels are, of course, a good example of the successful application of this principle although, as Mr Matos added, they are today primarily ‘interesting as a security device for high-priced products’.

Conversation moved on to a subject which the panel agreed is definitely

a coming technology: linerless labelling, which is already achieving a strong presence on supermarket food prepacks, and to another developing pathway for label converters -printing flexible packaging. Mr Matos observed: Our industry currently only has a tiny percentage of this market’, he added, ‘but we could have much more!’ He reminded the audience that two different, but complementary, businesses exist within the broad packaging arena -- primary and secondary packaging – both of which could, today, be addressed by label producers. He added, however: ‘In our industry, this requires a mindshift... we need to embrace flexible packaging as a closely-related brother industry.’

He drew attention to a good example of a practical enabler in this respect -- the latest HP Indigo digital press for both paper and film webs up to 750mm wide, which is capable of printing flexible packaging.

Price versus sustainability The moderator directed the conversation to a major focus for FINAT members: the issue of ‘price versus sustainability’. The true definition of ‘sustainability’ needs to be established, said Mr Kolkhuis Tanke for Avery Dennison, because, he said, ‘it is also about efficiency on the production line, and TCO – total cost of ownership: can it bring savings?’

Mr Matos, for Karlville Development, expanded the discussion to include

shrink sleeves, which, he said, are in some “green” communities not considered a sustainable solution.

‘But’, he underlined, ‘new technology DOES now allow sleeve separation in PET recycling.’ He added that he believes ‘shrink sleeves will continue to grow as packaging continues to change: refills, pouches with closures these are the things that will create the tipping point.’

‘Sustainability is also about the trend to thinner materials’, Mr Richter pointed out, highlighting a key factor for Krones’ business platform. They, however, ‘require more skill at the application point, and underline the need for quality labelling materials – even though thinner materials are driven by price!’

16 industry – both primarily focussed on the increasing capabilities of digital technologies. ‘With all our currentlyavailable technologies’, said Krones’ Stefan Richter, ‘we still can’t decorate a three-dimensional surface!’ 3D printing’s challenges are partnered in the threats arena by direct-to-container print, which do away with the need for an additional label substrate, as shrink sleeve expert Mr Matos pointed out.

The future?

Currently, Krones are experiencing increasing evidence that brand owners are choosing a ‘mix’ of labelling technologies, Mr Richter said. ‘In fact’, Moderator Büttgenbach added, ‘labelling and packaging are merging together, more and more. What, then, is the likely scenario for five to ten years’ time?’

For Mr Kolkhuis Tanke and Avery Dennison, it will mean ‘more selfadhesive products, greater efficiency, high-speed label application, and much more in the way of ‘smart’ labels and Near-Field Communication (NFC) -- which not only influence consumer behaviour but also significantly augment label functionality’. For Karlville, Mr Matos expects that the medium term will see full automation in the application of shrink sleeves as the market matures, plus a larger share in flexible packaging – particularly pouches.

Whatever the case, the label application machinery has a key enabling role to play, said Krones’ Stefan Richter. ‘There will be a highlyflexible “open system” of application – but material suppliers need to involve the application industry earlier in their

developments to facilitate change at our end.’

Will any one technology be the ultimate winner, was the moderator’s final question. The panel agreed that there is room for everyone. ‘We will all be part of a growing business’, said Mr Richter.

FINAT is actively pursuing the promotion of a broader technology base than has been traditional in label printing companies, and the topics raised by delegate questions in this valuable panel discussion prove that the association’s membership is also enthusiastically embracing a wider definition of a ‘label’.

"Tim has been a valued resource for printers, publishers and converters throughout Asia for two decades," Nichols explains. "He is uniquely qualified to unify and lead the Goss team in that region and to help us continue to deliver the highest levels of value, product performance and support."

Mercy is a graduate of Northern Illinois University (Illinois, USA) where he earned a Masters of Business Administration degree (MBA) as well as a Bachelors degree in Industry and Technology. Prior to joining Goss International, he worked with a leading commercial web printing and direct mail company in the United States.

Third package of automation delivered One of Spain’s leading label converters, Etiquetas Macho, has confirmed an order for Martin Automatic unwind and rewind equipment. The machinery, which will be delivered to the company’s Seville plant towards the end of the year, consists of an MBSF automatic unwind/splicer and an LRD transfer rewinder, and is designed to match the press’ performance of 150m/min across a maximum web width of 508mm.

Of particular importance is the ‘F’ specification of the splicer, which allows the Martin equipment to handle PVC and PET substrates down to 45-micron on Etiquetas Macho’s Drent VSOP line.

This will be the third package of automation delivered by Martin to the Spanish converter, which began equipping its two Gallus RCS 330 presses with MBS/STR and MBSC/STR equipment back in 2009. Production Manager at the Seville plant, José Luiz Franconetti, explained his company’s decision: “We looked closely at what the competition had to offer but decided to stay with Martin Automatic for the

simple reason that in four years their equipment has been trouble free, and the MBS units have not missed a single splice – a remarkable achievement!”

Etiquetas Macho, which manufactures self-adhesive labels, wet glue labels, and sleeves, has invested more than €8.5m since 2012, and this has allowed it to expand its business, which now operates from a modern 12,000 squaremetre production facility. Speaking for the converter, Juan Macho commented: “The new factory has given us the opportunity to improve efficiency by redesigning workflows, and provide our operators with better ergonomics. It’s

all part of our drive to increase product consistency and customer service. The new Martin Automatic equipment will be a key part of this programme when it is commissioned.”

Responding, Martin Automatic’s Southern Europe Sales Manager, Edward Pittman commented: “We were delighted to secure the order from such an important label converter – and the fact that it came on the same day that Spain proclaimed Felipe VI as its new monarch, is a good cause for a double celebration!”

- Reduction in VOC emission of 45% - Total estimated operation saving of 18% Mechanically, the development team focused on the rigid construction of the machine, especially the detailed properties of its functional heart – the printing module. A massive side frame in a uniform mono-bloc design with logically arranged crossbeams eliminates all vibrations occurring upon contact of rotating and fixed parts.

The attribute "mono-bloc" describes the true nature of the side frame construction, where the complete side of the print module is cast, annealed, machined, painted and assembled as a whole, in order to ensure the maximum accuracy needed for high quality printing.

The Optima has been designed for a mechanical speed of 300 m/min.

The average production speed of the machine when printing has a total wet ink consumption of approximately 8.7 g/m2 @ 250 m/min.

Finally the Soma Optima represents a machine which allows the market to meet the requirements of the most demanding customers at a reasonable cost. Without unnecessary time and economic losses, consequently allowing short run designs you can profitably complete small jobs, as the production cost will be reduced.

SOMA Engineering reports on a successful K 2013 show where the company launched its new Optima flexographic printing press, a dedicated machine developed for short run print jobs. One of the few machines running live jobs during the show, an 820mm Optima model was demonstrated twice daily in full production mode printing a five colour Bon Pari graphic on 0.20mm thickness BOPP using Kodak Flexcel plates and a 175 lines per inch anilox screen. A second five colour job was also printed on the same type of substrate that featured a Ricore graphic using Dupont DSP plates and the same specification anilox screen.

“We were delighted with the reception of the new Optima and interest exceeded expectations,” said Pavla Kusa of Soma. “Customers perceived the development as filling a gap in the product offering currently available from top of the range press manufacturers. I am also pleased to report on comments made by customers from various countries, for example, one from Malaysia compared the development of the machine with that of a well known smart phone, the first to offer more functionality and added value than the rest. From Turkey, again the impression was a ‘smart solution’ that fills a gap in the market.

A Russian customer was impressed that we were the only company running live jobs and providing samples and one from the USA admired the concept for

future expansion in relation to market demands. Finally from Latin America, we again heard the word ‘smart’ and just what I’m looking for in a compact press, big on quality and low on price. A high quality of sales leads is now being processed and the equipment can of course be seen at our new Soma Globe Training and Development Centre.”

Flint Group launches new plate designed for the nyloflex® NExT exposure technology The innovative nyloflex® NExT exposure technology has impressed the market with its simple way of producing flat top dots and surface screenings.

To enhance this further, Flint Group Flexographic Products presents with nyloflex® NEF Digital a new high durometer plate that is especially designed for the nyloflex® NExT exposure technology, for printing of flexible packaging and labels.

Developed for the efficient creation of flat top dots and an excellent reproduction of surface screenings, the new plate shows an outstanding qual-

ity in highlight areas due to a stable reproduction of the finest highlights and smooth vignettes. It allows for a reduced bump-up, while reaching the first tonal values of e.g. 0.8 to 1.2% at 60 L/cm (152 lpi), hence increasing the image contrast. The ink lay-down can be significantly improved and a high solid ink density achieved when surface screens are applied. The result is a brilliant print performance on film, foil and coated paper substrates.

The short exposure and quick washout times enhance the productivity of plate processing. The new printing plate enables one to exploit the full potential of the nyloflex® NExT exposure technology. Flat top dots are less impression sensitive, enabling less dot gain variances on press. With the nyloflex® NExT exposure technology, no additional processing steps, such as lamination, or additional auxiliaries (like nitrogen supply or film materials) are required, thus making it a more cost effective option.

Although the nyloflex® NEF Digital plate is especially designed for highoutput UV LED exposure, it can also be exposed with regular tube light units. Compared to other digital plates in the market, additional benefits can be generated when the nyloflex® NEF Digital plate is exposed with conventional tube light: the new plate is able to reproduce flat top dots with surface screening patterns. Though being less distinct than with the nyloflex® NExT exposure, these screens enable one to achieve a more even ink lay down than reached when regular digital plates are used. In addition, nyloflex® NEF Digital plates require a lower bump up, which allows for the increase of grey levels in printing and the capability to increase the image contrast as compared to regular digital plates in the market.

The new photopolymer printing plate, nyloflex® NEF Digital, will be available to the market in the thicknesses of 114 (.045”) and 170 (.067”) in the beginning of August 2014.

The Industry Debates Afterlife options for Label Release Liner Sustainability and environmental concerns are a key focus for FINAT and, of course, for the self-adhesive labelling industry as a whole, as part of the broader packaging business. This year’s FINAT Technical Seminar drew together different elements of the label value chain to address recycling initiatives in a discussion panel moderated by industry guru Mike Fairley.

Panelists were Calvin Frost, Channeled Resources Group; Paolo Guagliumi, Munksjö; Erkki Nyberg, UPM Raflatac; Eric van Pottelbergh, RecuLiner; Stephan Reis, Avery Dennison, and Petri Tani, C4G. Mike Fairley opened the session by reminding seminar participants that the very first patent for paper recycling was granted in 1800 – for newsprint. What, then, should restrain the label industry’s efforts to create a second life for spent release liner?

Pathways, today and tomorrow Discussion was wide-ranging, across a number of important pathways in which the industry is already a participant, or which offer possibilities for recycling or re-use. Calvin Frost and Petri Tani agreed that one way forward is for the labelstock laminators to create the demand for secondary fibre, and communicate it to their suppliers.

But, although such materials are available on the market, there is still no ‘pull through’ from the brand owners –

perhaps, as Stephan Reis commented, because they may have to be willing to pay more for recycled material – which is rarely the case in today’s competitive marketplace. But, added Petri Tani, ‘even end users understand that recycling is better than landfill and incineration!’

Needed – a coherent message Mike Fairley underlined the importance of the sustainability agenda for the future health of the label industry. ‘We are not getting the message across to the brand owners and end users,’ he said, ‘and we still don’t have a system for creating a carbon footprint through the

31 label supply chain. As an industry, we simply don’t have one clear, coherent message.’

Liner recycling options Closed-loop, cradle-to-cradle recycling is, naturally, a prime goal for FINAT members. In that context it is so much easier, and more successful, to set up recycling initiatives for film liner, because of its intrinsic financial value.

Mitsubishi Polyester Film’s scheme for collection and recycling into their Reprocess™ liner programme – containing 25% of recycled material – is now handling 4-5000 tonnes per annum in the US. Most of the negative recycling issues, sadly, relate to paper liner base. Paolo Guagliumi observed that it is helpful that paper liner is listed as ‘recyclable’ in the 2013 revision of EN 643. In this document, paper release liner for self-adhesive labels has been added to Group 5 (special grades) – as grade no. 5.05.03. (CEPI’s new guidance document -- http://www.cepi.org/ en643 -- provides valuable detail).

Is release liner packaging or process waste?

If, however, the European authorities finally decide to define release liner as packaging waste, Erkki Nyberg pointed out, there will be no question: the industry as a whole will have to recycle.

Voluntary action is preferable, so Mike Fairley urged: ‘let’s set targets NOW!’ Alternative scenarios Options other than recycling are also practical in the context of the ‘three Rs’ –reduce, re-use, recycle. Calvin Frost provided an excellent example as to how liner simply can be rewound into rolls, is already being used by small laminators in the Asia Pacific region,

for example in making self-adhesive tapes. RecuLiner patented technology is another possible route. Eric van Pottelbergh’s company’s model – already up and running in the Benelux countries -- collects and transforms spent paper release liner into highperformance cellulose fibre insulation material for the construction industry.

The label converters’ role The label converters are perhaps the key to success in engaging the ‘buy in’ of the end users, since they talk to their customers every day, said Stephan Reis. However, Petri Tani showed that ‘it’s not so easy for a label printer to talk to the right person – who is most probably NOT the person who actually purchases labels.’ The outcome of TLMI’s current pilot spent liner collection initiative with LIFEregistered converters, across seven states, will certainly be of relevance and interest in Europe, and in the broader L9 associations. This provoked a printer delegate to comment that his company had actually been required by one brand owner to sign a form confirming that their labels had NO recycled content.

FINAT: the action hub As the discussions drew to a close, panelists and delegates agreed on one key future action: it is FINAT, the European label industry’s association, which must take the lead, and ensure that self-adhesive labelling’s future is safeguarded by delivering the message that release liner, paper and film, has a valuable second life after it has performed the tasks in production and application that have made the selfadhesive label such a successful and enduring element of the packaging industry.

This technology does not require any additional consumable items or steps; additionally, it can easily be incorporated into the existing digital workflow. The high level of UV emission leads to a significant improvement in the reproduction of the fine relief elements. When combined with high resolution surface screening, the resulting surface texture of the flat top dots provides an optimal surface to enhance ink laydown, ink density, and consistency in printing.

In flexible packaging, printing plates exposed with this technology allow excellent ink transfer, particularly in solids. In corrugated printing, fluting will considerably be reduced as the LED exposure allows a better control of the relief profile. Additionally, the nyloflex® NExT technology provides significantly improved reproduction quality and long-term stability.

Two new area sales managers BOBST has announced that it recently appointed two news area sales managers who have joined its Business Unit Web-fed sales force in South-East Asia.

The appointment follows BOBST‘s decision to represent directly its webfed products and services in Indonesia and Thailand, after termination of the agency agreement with its agent of 10 years Techno Global Graphics effective from 30 June 2014.

Mr Weerawat Tewintarapakti and Mr Antonius Koban have joined Bobst Thailand Limited and PT Bobst Jakarta respectively and are responsible for sales of BOBST web-fed machinery and products.

These include equipment for gravure printing, flexo printing, lamination, coating for specialties and vacuum metallizing for flexible materials, extrusion coating & laminating for flexible packaging, paper and board, as well as web-fed gravure printing and inline converting machines for folding carton.

World’s First HP High-speed Inkjet Corrugated Packaging Solution

HP announced that Obaly Morava, a.s. installed the world’s first HP High-speed Inkjet Corrugated Packaging Solution to digitally pre-print high-quality corrugated liners and meet demand for faster time to market.

Obaly Morava, a privately-owned corrugated board producer based in the Czech Republic, provides a broad range of corrugated products to the Czech Republic and surrounding markets, including up to nine-layer corrugated board and boxes. The forward-looking company installed the press in June, becoming the first user of the new solution, which is based on the HP T400 Simplex Color Inkjet Web Press.

“Market demands and the technology available are changing dramatically, and we are taking a fresh look at how to best meet our customers’ needs, such as individualisation and differentiation from the competition,” said Martin Rehorik, president, Obaly Morava.

It then transfers the pre-printed rolls to its corrugator to produce corrugated board for packaging applications.

XEIKON CHEETAH SETS A NEW SPEED BENCHMARK Xeikon announces the most important advancement for the digital label market in 15 years – the Xeikon Cheetah digital color press.

The press is a staggering 60% faster than any other model in its current press portfolio. The new digital press is dedicated solely to self-adhesive/ pressure sensitive label production and can output high quality labels at 98 ft/min (30 m/min), making it the fastest five-color digital label press in the world.

“This increase in speed represents a huge leap forward in digital press technology. It will enable Xeikon label printers and converters to embark on a new era of productivity and efficiency, with much greater flexibility to react to their clients’ requests for shorter timeto-market,” says Patrick Van Baelen, VP-WW Marketing at Xeikon. “The Xeikon Cheetah narrows the gap between digital printing and traditional flexo/offset methods for producing labels. The quality benchmark just got faster Xeikon now offers six presses in its label and packaging portfolio, providing solutions from entry-level to high capacity production. This is the broadest press portfolio of label and packaging presses available on the market today.

The Xeikon Cheetah can handle substrate widths of up to 13 inches (330 mm) with a true print resolution of 1.200 x 3.600 dpi. It utilizes full rotary printing where the press speeds are independent of the number of colors used and/or the repeat length of the job. Full rotary printing also makes step-and-repeat and subsequent finishing operations straightforward. Furthermore, the Xeikon Cheetah offers all the renowned benefits that make the Xeikon 3000 Series unique, including the use of dry toners that meet FDA regulations for food contact and the ability to print opaque white toner in one pass.

Xeikon presses are based on dry toner electro-photography. This enables the use of conventional substrates that do not have to be pre-treated. Extremely high toner light-fastness and truly ecofriendly printing (no VOC’s) are some of the other industry leading features of the Xeikon presses for digital label and package printing. The presses offer easy integration of third-party workflow software and converting/ finishing solutions. Furthermore, they incorporate professional color management capabilities.

In addition to the standard CMYK + White, the fifth station on the Xeikon Cheetah can be used to print gamut expansion colors or security toner.

The press also includes automatic inline register and density controls. The imaging width is up to 12.7 inches (322 mm) while the repeat length is variable from 0 – 180 ft (0 – 55 m). Media weights range from 40 gsm to 350 gsm.

The Future of Product Decoration The label industry listens to the brand owners Brand owners – whether they are manufacturing foods, beverages, personal care products, or toys – have a common need: labels for their products.

Today, ‘labels’ come in many forms and, as well as identifying the product and its contents, perform additional key roles – decoration, promotion, and a track-and-trace functionality.

A panel of brand-owner packaging experts from different market sectors came together recently, courtesy of FINAT, the international label industry association, to debate specifically ‘the future of product decoration’. Here, FINAT Managing Director Jules Lejeune recounts some interesting aspects of the conversation.

The occasion for this panel discussion was the 2014 FINAT Annual Congress in Monte Carlo last June, attended by our association’s membership, which spans the extremely complex label industry value chain, from raw material suppliers to label printers.

The panel was well-qualified to discuss the subject of product decoration.

Participants were Olivier Delataulade (F), finishing and printing expertise controller at L’Oréal, with extensive

experience in the company’s packaging and brand strategies; Jesper Toubøl (DK), head of LEGO’s packaging and processing research, and with a wideranging career with the company in strategic roles; Arno Melchior (D), global supply excellence director with Reckitt Benckiser, tasked with the continuing harmonisation and optimisation of the merged companies’ two product ranges and their packaging; and Brendan Kinzie (USA), a senior director for G3 Enterprises, global suppliers -- with a specialist focus on the wines and spirits industry -- of packaging components, including labels, as well as logistics services and technical and laboratory expertise.

Choosing the right label technology for the product on hand Labelling is not a single-track activity.

As well as self-adhesive and glueapplied labels, it embraces sleeving, in-mould solutions, flexible packaging, and direct-to-container print. L’Oréal, said Olivier Delataulade, chooses to employ all the available technology options, including multiple imaging

processes on one label, and makes each choice on the basis of ‘What’s the best solution for THIS product?’

With product and label print runs getting shorter and shorter as a result both of local language and regulatory requirements and product versioning, he said, production using digital print is an increasingly-favoured option.

L’Oréal is also keen to keep abreast of imaging trends, like 3D polarising Fresnel lenses, metallisation, holography, the ‘no-label look’, fabric substrates, and leaflet labels. ‘Labels’, Mr Delataulade observed, ‘are more technical than other print’.

Overall, Arno Melchior defined the decision-making criteria at Reckitt Benckiser as ‘quality and volume – on time.’ For very high-volume product packaging runs, Reckitt Benckiser are finding in- mould labelling a good choice. Interestingly, he said, ‘label printers could usefully be much more aligned with our production process’; and added that the company are also moving more of their packaging and print supply functions in-house, or as close to their production units as possible, to respond appropriately to the persistent challenges of tight delivery timelines. 49 created in the marketing department, which can mean that ‘a lot of labels of the old design are wastefully thrown away. This is another area for more alignment.’

Should more brand owners print their own labels, or can our label industry platform provide everything they want? G3 Enterprises’ Brendan Kinzie replied: ‘I don’t see in-house print happening in wines in the short term. Our label print involves lots of special processes like embossing to attract consumers’ attention – it’s too complex – and it is the label that actually sells 80-90% of wines in America!’ For G3 Enterprises’ clients’ specialist packaging/labelling needs, ‘it is quality that drives the decoration choice decision,’ he confirmed, adding that it is G3 Enterprises’ creative agency that buys label print. Talking about label print technologies, he told us, ‘flexo is doing well, and so is digital print, which is enjoying – and will continue to enjoy -- a lot of growth in the wine industry, where it still represents a very small percentage of label volumes.’

LEGO packaging differs significantly from that of FMCG products in that it consists primarily of cardboard boxes, and its market focus is on children, as Jesper Toubøl explained. ‘Digital print is growing fast – it enables us, for example, to respond to seasonal needs’, but he advised: ‘the separate, additional label still needs to compete with other packaging segments’.

Technology choice made at too late a stage in production Mr Melchior drew attention to some concerns Reckitt Benckiser experiences on the packaging/labelling front. The decision on choice of decoration technology is, he said, taken at too late a stage in the chain. ‘We may need, for example, to change a bottle shape to accommodate a shrink sleeve. The label supplier therefore definitely needs to be integrated at an earlier stage in the production process.’ Mr Kinzie concurred with this statement, because, in his world of wines and spirits, the ‘label is actually printed and applied – and then assessed for its value and efficiency!’.

Connecting with brand owners: a label printer’s challenge In truth, one of the most difficult challenges experienced by FINAT label converter member companies is making contact with the right people in an end-user company to discuss their needs and wants. For L’Oréal, the right pathway is to involve not just purchasing, but also marketing. ‘For packaging, the marketing people need to say what they want, and then we can look at the technicalities’, said Mr Delataulade.

Mr Melchior, Reckitt Benckiser, enlarged on this theme. He said that ‘purchasing’s target is to control costs. The design manager and packaging manager are the company contacts who are likely to want to develop higher-quality, innovative solutions... But, in the end, it’s always about price in some way or other. If you have a product that people will pay more for, then there’s room for extra label costs.’ ‘And,’ added Mr Toubøl, talking for LEGO, ‘you really need to be able to add value – especially for products for kids.’

That may be the case, but the fact remains that ‘end users will generally go to label converters in the event of a practical problem – and if that doesn’t produce a solution, they will go to the material supplier’, said Mr Melchior. That is also the case for G3 Enterprises. ‘In a field like ours, involving lots of glass,’ said Mr Kinzie, ‘whenever there’s a problem we expect the vendor to cope!’

It would appear that there is still some way to go before label printers can establish a more fundamental relationship in a brand owner’s packaging planning.

The agreement will ensure repeatable color accuracy for Goss Sunday Vpak press users across all applications including labels, carton and board, and flexible packaging printing.

According to Mike D'Angelo, managing director of Goss International Americas, Goss has recognized a pressing need for color consistency standards within the packaging sector since entering the market in 2012.

"This is particularly critical when using special ink formulations and substrates that have been specified by brand owners, often with little regard for the technical challenges involved," comments D'Angelo. Goss Sunday Vpak 500 and Vpak 3000 web offset press models for folding carton, flexible packaging, pre-print and label applications are available in web widths from 520 mm to 1905 mm (20.5 to 75 inches) and print at speeds of up to 457 meters (1,500 feet) per minute. Key features include quickchange sleeve adapter technology for efficient, cost-effective size changes, and advanced offset inking, tension and control systems.

LDPE – The Key to Success with Foils Four letters symbolize the success of Orbo Labels in Belgium: LPDE. They stand for low-density polyethylene.

LDPE foil feels softer and thicker and has lower density than traditional foils made from HDPE (high density polyethylene). In addition, it barely rustles. Thanks to these specific qualities, it is ideally suited to the packaging of frozen foods.

Therein lies one of the greatest secrets of the success of Orbo Labels, which was established in 1994 and employs 65 people. The area surrounding the company’s site in Kortemark is known for the cultivation of a wide range of vegetables. The numerous vegetable producers provided an ideal niche market for Orbo Labels. All that was then needed for frozen food packaging were first-class suppliers of the highly challenging LDPE foils and the right web printing press.

30 μm Foils After entering the flexible packaging business six years ago, Orbo Labels, which has made a name for itself in Flanders and beyond and has customers in both the food and nonfood segments, printed exclusively

using the flexo method. “Our total printing volume is rising steadily.

However, our runs for the various products were decreasing owing to the sales campaigns of our customers and increasing product variability, so I searched for alternative printing methods,” says Sales Manager Rik Pappijn.

Orbo Labels found what it was looking for at Muller Martini’s Print Technology Center in the German town of Maulburg. “We performed tests on the VSOP web printing press from Muller Martini with LDPE foils with 30 μm thickness, although we normally print on foils with 50 μm thickness,” says Pappijn.“ The results were perfect. The printing quality using the VSOP is just as high as in rotogravure printing, with

the difference that the pre-press costs with the VSOP are markedly lower than in rotogravure printing.”

A few months after the successful test runs, Orbo Labels put its VSOP with six printing units and a flexo unit for opaque white and lacquer into roll/roll operation. Currently, 95 percent of the products printed using the new web printing press are foils.

Growing numbers of firms rely on the considerable expertise of the Belgian foil specialist, be it in duplex or triplex laminates, which are increasingly in demand because of their prevention of migration, printing on polyester or color sealing by means of OPP (oriented polypropylene foils).“We have received a lot of positive feedback from our customers and are continuing to strengthen our position in this market segment,” says Pappijn with pride.

“EB is the Perfect Solution” Orbo Labels, which leaves the sleeves and in-mold business to other printing plants, is currently using only four of its six VSOP printing units. “We can produce all our products using the four process colors of cyan, magenta, yellow and black so we don’t need any specific Pantone colors,” says the Sales Manager. “That means we never need to wash our printing units, which saves us a lot of time, as do the quick changeovers between the various sizes thanks to the convenient operation of the VSOP.” Orbo Labels, which also uses six label printing presses, two digital printing presses and a flexo printing press and has British Retail Consumer certification, benefits from two other key advantages of the new web printing press, in addition to the high printing quality and the quick make ready. First, the large roll width of 850 mm, which provides a high degree of flexibility and productivity. And, second, electron beam hardening. “I consider EB the perfect solution, since it prevents contamination and odor,” says Pappijn.

Stratasys Opens 3D Printing Experience Centre in Singapore The new facility will provide local support while serving growing needs in the South Asia and Pacific region. Sha Jumari reports.

Stratasys Asia Pacific announced the inauguration of the new 3D Printing Experience Centre in Singapore. The centre was officially opened on 30 July 2014 at an exclusive launch event with customers, channel partners and alliance partners in attendance.

The demo centre forms part of their office base in Singapore, which also serves as the headquarters for South Asia. Stratasys was first initiated as a legal entity in Singapore in October 2013, and has now moved into the 6,000 square feet Toa Payoh space with the fully equipped demo centre.

Far East Makes The Switch to Flexo with Rotamag Singapore-based Far East Label opted for Rotamag Flexography press for efficiency, speed, and its proprietary Australian technology. Sha Jumari reports.

The latest success story in transitioning from letterpress to flexography comes in the form of Far East Label. When labels started out just ten years ago, it was just a small department in the Far East plant, which mainly produces cartons. Understanding that labels are an integral part of packaging, the

company decided to branch out to establish Far East Label Pte Ltd. The idea was to supply Far East’s existing packaging customers with labels as well.

Initially, Far East Label was supplying within Singapore, but soon found the local market for labels to be rather difficult: “Even if there are orders, it comes from the FMCG and food industry, which is very saturated and price-sensitive,” said CK Teng, managing director, Far East Label Pte Ltd. “So we went out to look for export markets instead. In fact, we export about 70% of our products, mainly to Australia.”

This was one of the main reasons for choosing the Rotamag – it was Australian-made: “The Australiandesigned flexo knows what kind of processes we need to produce products that are unique for the Australian market, and proprietary to the Australia as well.”

59 Teng added that they considered European flexo presses, but found out that it would require a lot of modifications to the machines in order to be able to produce their largely Australian exports.

Another feature of the flexo that appealed to Teng is in its ability to run unsupported material. Rotamag’s rewinder allows it to do just that, and efficiently too.

“Producing labels for cans is very challenging, because it is a one-sided, 80gsm, uncoated paper. In other words, it is soft,” Teng said. “Originally we were doing offset print and then have it cut. We have since swapped them around with flexo instead. It is actually more efficient and faster. If the flexo machine is stable and the registration is good, the layman can’t really see the difference.”

Rotamag Flexographic presses are produced by the Rotary Engineering, which has manufacturing facilities in Australia and Thailand.

“One thing good about Rotary is

that it’s a family-owned business. If I need something, I can just pick up my phone and get it. Unlike the bigger manufacturers, there is often a chain to go through,” said Teng.

Switching to flexo has also opened up a whole host of opportunities for Far

East: “Originally we did consider using flexo to produce packaging as well, but we’ve not gone there yet. I know it’s possible. We don’t want to be stuck with just self-adhesive, we are trying to grow outwards.”

ThermoFlexX 80 sets new standards The new ThermoFlexX 80 is the first completely in-house designed and manufactured model in the company’s imager range since Xeikon acquired FlexoLaser in 2012 and incorporates a level of innovation that has not previously been seen in a flexo imager.

A dual-head imaging feature, available from August, will enable output speeds of 12 sq metres an hour at 2,400 dpi, making the ThermoFlexX 80 the fastest flexo imager in the world.

a minimum at all times and this latest imager is fitted with a sensor that will automatically check that the thickness and size of the plate on the drum is correct for the job about to be exposed.

This latest model, equipped with a stateof-the-art imaging concept, consists of three independent modules - the motor, laser and optics. The flexible design allows straightforward replacement of any of these modules, thus simplifying service and future hardware upgrades, while providing the possibility for remote optical fine-tuning. The newly designed optical system has improved imaging quality, while the maximum resolution of 5,080 dpi is the highest on the market.

“To overcome the need to handle plates manually, one of the main causes of plate damage, we have created the Flextray. This mobile table can be adjusted easily to transport and feed plates into the innovative guiding system, which ensures that even plates as thick as 6.35 mm can be seamlessly mounted on the drum.”

“Our engineers and development teams have incorporated a high degree of automation into the ThermoFlexX 80, from the automatic calibration system that guarantees jobs are always imaged under optimum conditions, to the ability for the operator to load and unload plates at the touch of a button,” said Christophe Lievens, director sales and marketing for basysPrint and ThermoFlexX. “We have examined how to keep wastage to

All ThermoFlexX imagers utilise IPG fibre lasers operating at 1,064 nm, which combine low energy consumption with high reliability. The imagers will expose any plate with a LAM layer such as flexo, letterpress and dry offset, as well as Gallus Screeny (digital screen) and ablative film. The imagers can handle any thickness from a 0.18 mm ablative film to a 6.35 mm flexo plate, and support all relevant technologies such as flat top dots. This means that if a printer uses plates from

any leading supplier e.g. Flint, DuPont, Asahi, MacDermid, Toyobo, Toray etc., they can continue without changing their normal working practices.

ThermoFlexX imagers accept 1-bit TIFF files generated by any workflow, RIP or front-end and will handle any innovative screens such as hybrid or surface screens. The screened 1-bit TIFF file could be a single job file, which can be assembled on a template, or it could be an already assembled 1-bit TIFF plate. A philosophy of ‘openness’ means that ThermoFlexX imagers can be integrated seamlessly into existing workflows such as those from Esko Graphics, Hybrid Software, Kodak and Agfa.

“We have incorporated a host of features within our Multiplate software to make processing digital data easy – basic step and repeat functionality, the ability to simply drag and drop files into templates, plate cropping and job organisation, file archiving, TIFF viewing etc,” said Lievens. “Towards the end of 2014 we will launch

imager in the world, with the ability to have all five options on one machine – 2,400, 2,540, 4,000, 4,800 and 5,080 dpi.

The latter resolution allows halftone screens of 250 lpi, suitable for intricate, high quality printing. Depending upon the job being sent by the workflow the ThermoFlexX 80 will automatically select the correct resolution and alter the optics accordingly, another feature unique to this imager.

The creation of a hybrid drum that enables plates to be held by either vacuum or magnets means that customers can expose standard polymer flexo plates or steel-backed letterpress plates. There is an advanced automatic clamping system and, combined with the slow drum rotation feature, this ensures that plate mounting is straightforward and accurate. Automatic plate clamping is available on the larger models.

“Keeping control of costs is vital to any graphic arts business, and at every single stage we have examined how best to provide efficiency, low wastage, ease of use and high productivity,” said Lievens. “To achieve this we’ve utilised the highest quality of components.

For instance, on the larger models we drive the drum directly as this eliminates friction and heat generation and ensures a constant speed without fluctuations.

Multiplate 4.0 software which will incorporate a new, and very intuitive, user interface. Features will include the ability to support multiple imposition sheets plus different resolutions on the same sheet, while the new database will provide job tracking, filter, search and improved archive functions. There will be the ability to integrate with workflows and ERP systems as well as external equipment such as cutting tables and mounting devices.”

There are six ThermoFlexX imagers in the range, the smallest - the ThermoFlexX 18 – handling a maximum plate size of 508 x 420 mm, while the ThermoFlexX 80 can be used with plates up to 1,270 x 2,032 mm.

Many of the unique features that have been developed at the Ypres factory are available across all six models.

This includes the vacuum slider facility that allows the operator to cut off vacuum to areas of the drum not mounted, simply by moving a slider to the edge of the plate (this function is automated on the new ThermoFlexX 80). Eliminating the need to apply special tape, or cutting plates to fit the unused part of the drum, means that customers can easily fit and expose (at full speed) plate off-cuts that would otherwise normally be thrown away.

“Innovation is an integral part of our philosophy and all of the industry-leading features that we have incorporated into the ThermoFlexX 80 such as the modular design of the imaging solution, with three independent modules, and the high level of automation, will be built into the ThermoFlexX 60, which is being redesigned during the summer for a product launch in the autumn. This will include a new Flextray unit suitable for that size of imager.

“It’s obvious from the investment we are making and the breakthroughs we are achieving that Xeikon Prepress is totally committed to the flexo industry. Our aim at ThermoFlexX is to one day have the standing in the flexo sector that Xeikon currently has in the digital press market.

That means that there cannot be any harmful effects on human health or any unacceptable changes to the organoleptic characteristics of the product (detrimental effects on smell, taste, color or appearance), and that everything must comply fully with all relevant statutory regulations of the country in which the products are sold.

The producers of packaging materials have to demonstrate their compliance with Nestlé’s requirements – both

physical, such as artwork, and chemical, such as migration values, as well as sensory harmlessness of the printed packaging materials. “That’s why Nestlé only considers suppliers that can meet our commercial and technical requirements in a sustainable way,” Papilloud says. “Suppliers of packaging materials are called to account if our requirements are not satisfied.”

In-House Standards In addition to the legal requirements imposed, for example, by the European Union, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration or the Chinese government, Nestlé sets its own, stricter standards for food packaging, for instance for the printing of the inside and outside of packaging and

use of UV or electron beam printing inks, the environmental factor is one of the three major advantages that the web offset printing method offers for food packaging, explains Bernd Sauter, Managing Director of Muller Martini Printing Presses GmbH, Germany. “There are neither residual inks nor residual solvents, and neither are explosion-proof storage for inks and solvents nor a wash-up system for machine parts, cylinders and inking rollers required. That leads in total to far lower insurance costs for a production site.”

Growing Range of Substrates According to the printing press expert from Muller Martini, there is another important benefit of web offset: the growing range of printable substrates.

“Until a few years ago, certain substrates such as polyethylene could not be processed or required special knowledge of the complex printing process. Today, advances in technology enable the stable and reliable printing of such substrates using web offset.”

Whether it be the thermoplastic synthetic material polyethylene,

polylactic acid (PLA) consisting of corn starch, or stretch sleeves, which are increasingly widespread thanks to the new web tension regulation on the VSOP variable web printing press, good cooperation between Muller Martini and suppliers is contributing considerably to new substrates establishing themselves increasingly quickly, Sauter explains. Another example is LPDE (low density polyethylene), used by another of Muller Martini’s European customers for printing. The LPDE foil feels softer and thicker, has lower density than a traditional foil made from HDPE (high density polyethylene) and barely rustles. Thanks to these specific qualities, it is ideally suited to the packaging of frozen foods.

Xeikon launches the Web Varnishing Module A compact inline varnishing module that brings major productivity and optimization improvements Xeikon has expanded the inline finishing options available for its digital presses with the development of the Web Varnishing Module, an extremely versatile unit that can apply UV or aqueous varnish on one side of a wide range of substrates. These substrates include self- adhesive label materials, coated papers, unsupported films and coated paper board. This new and compact unit will have its worldwide launch on the company’s booth 6135 at Labelexpo Americas 2014 and will be commercially available from early 2015.

“The label and folding carton industries employ a wide range of varnishes, from matt to super gloss, and these can have a huge impact on the appearance, feel and quality of the final printed product,” says Filip Weymans, Director - Business Development and Marketing, Labels and Packaging, Xeikon.

One of the big advantages of the new inline module is that the operator can see the results immediately and can make any corrections, if required, in order to achieve the desired effect.

This eliminates the high expense and job delays when varnishing is done off-line and the entire job has to be reprinted if the end result is not acceptable.

The web varnishing module runs inline with the Xeikon 3000 Series of presses (at full press speeds) and the print roller can be changed easily to match the repeat or width of the job being printed. In addition to applying the flood or spot varnish, the unit can be upgraded with a UV dryer and/or aqueous dryer.

“We are constantly expanding the components of our Label and Packaging “Suites”, which include defined sets of software, equipment, consumables and/or substrates to complement our digital presses. This

enables our customers to pick and build the best digital production solutions for their specific business needs,” says Weymans. “The Web Varnishing Module is an important addition to our Suites, enabling further optimisation of the processes and workflows used by printers and converters. We are convinced that the ability to apply spot aqueous varnish makes the module the ideal fit for folding cartons, which require varnish-free areas for glue strips and production data. The module is an extremely compact solution to apply spot varnish. In addition, we expect most users to also install the optional cutter and use the Xeikon stacker to create a phenomenally efficient production line.”

For the self-adhesive market, the application of flood UV varnish in combination with Xeikon VariLane, simplifies the entire production process. This is because the off-line die-cutting can be carried out at the full speed of the die cutter. Xeikon’s VariLane software enables different sized labels to be printed in lanes on the web with the greatest optimisation of material and press capacity. When used in combination with the Web Varnishing Module, it is possible to apply varnish with one roller across the entire width of the substrate, as opposed to having to swap between different rollers when the process is carried out off-line.

Re-launch and structural realignment of the drupa 2016: Focus on future technologies After a strategic realignment, the drupa 2016 – undisputed no. 1 flagship fair for print & crossmedia solutions – will be relaunched with a substantially reviewed nomenclatura and a new key signifier. With the slogan “touch the future” it will focus on the industry’s innovative strength and establish a platform for future technologies.

“No other trade fair – regional or international, marginal event or special trade show – is of similar relevance for the entire industry. The drupa trade fair presents innovations and trends, provides hands-on experience of the printing and media industry, makes visions come to life and turns investments into real products,“ Werner Matthias Dornscheidt, President & CEO Messe Düsseldorf, summed up the drupa’s unique selling point at his press conference on 12 May. “During more than sixty years, the drupa has been tried and tested – and has never failed to impress. And the drupa 2016 will be no different,” Dornscheidt continued. The secret of this event’s success can be summed up in three points: trend spotting, active endorsement and tailored trade show concepts.

At present, the printing industry is undergoing radical structural changes and far-reaching consolidation processes. At the same time, new technologies such as functional printing, printed electronics and 3D printing, which have significantly increased their market share, provide major opportunities and potential for growth. The same applies to applications and solutions in the area of digital printing, package and label printing as well as to the industrial

70 The drupa has defined salient issues with acute market relevance and significant potential which are already playing an important role in the market or will do so in the future.

These are: package printing including digital label printing, multichannel publishing and green printing. The implementation of strategic activities such as separate events, event formats and systematically addressing the industry’s target groups will define the drupa’s strategic re-alignment in these areas.

In addition to this strategic realignment the drupa’s corporate design received was initially addressed by introducing a special show and roadmap, which has now been developed into a unique concept. Sales Enablement and Technology – The Execution Gap Watching a film we are often impressed – apart from a great story – by the technique or style with which the artistic work was produced. We are impressed when a film is entirely professional in its execution.

Execution – the act of doing or performing something, of carrying out

Then, the change and collaboration gaps popped up, one after the other.

Execution is in short supply. Blaming begins. But – given a functioning system – technology is not to blame.

It does what people allow the system to do. Root causes are how well the decision was made, how well vision, mission, purpose, goals and roadmap were defined, how well the implementation was prepared from a business perspective, how well change and collaboration gaps were mastered, and how well the program was executed.

Vision, mission, purpose, goals and strategy have to be defined from a business perspective Very often, those essentials are missing.

Phrases like “improving collaboration” and “improving productivity” are often used, but they are not even a goal.

They don’t tell a story, they are not measurable and the question “from what – to what?” is not answered.

Even more important is the often

missing trilogy of vision, mission and purpose. Why is that so important?

A vision statement is focused on the future, it answers the question: “Where do we aim to be?” A mission statement talks about the present leading to its future, it answers the questions: “What do we do and how do we do it? What makes us different?” Purpose answers the questions: “Why are we doing this?

Why does this program exist?” It also covers the guiding principles that lead all actions to achieve the goals. Then, a strategy can be derived, which is a roadmap to get from here to there.

Methods, process and frameworks have to operationalize the implementation A successful implementation requires conceptual homework. It requires holistic and system thinking, led by a business perspective. To leverage sales technology successfully, to justify the investment, a robust framework of methodology, embedded in a flexible process, guided by principles, rather than by rules, has to be in place. It’s the heart of the system you are going to implement. It’s the same for sales enablement or CRM technology.

The focus for a CRM is more on the sales methodology and the sales process itself. For sales enablement, the conceptual framework defines enablement services along the sales process/customer’s journey based on sales methodology and engagement principles. The operational framework defines how enablement services are created, published and provided as well as localized. If that’s in place, collaboration is already operationalized, and change and adoption programs have a much stronger foundation.

Nothing beats leadership Implementing technology is not only a huge investment; it also entails a lot of change and a different way of working collaboratively, which I addressed in the two previous posts. The combined challenges of change gap, collaboration and execution gap make for a complex environment, which requires leadership, leadership and leadership to succeed.

Leadership cannot be delegated.

Business power is necessary. The larger the program, the more leadership is required – from the sales leader – continuously.
